Love a bit of Willow Springs! And Laguna has been good too. Both very sweaty affairs for the first couple of laps but generally been clean and close racing so far this week.
911 seems to be the main car for the race C but I just can't seem to improve my qualifying time enough to beat what I can manage in the 458.

Glad you’re having a good week mate! Saw you and @newmedia_dev are nearing A+ with your DR!!!

Also saw @Stringerbell stroll on in with 1.18 😂

I’m glad I chose the alt account this week or I’d have lost all my 37k, willow is good fun but it’s not my best and I’m fine with that 😁

Keep trucking guys

Had the day off today so locked myself in the cave determined to find some pace or some enjoyment. sat there for 6 hours very stubbornly and belligerently lapping lap after lap!

Put 70 laps into Big Willow to squeak into the 18's and think I can get mid 18's if I really stuck at it, which I won't as I'm just not enjoying it, had a race and didn't enjoy it, just don't think the track is for me.

Over last night and today I've put 200 laps into Laguna Seca 🤦‍♂️ as I feel like if I can unlock it it will be a track I actually like, at the moment I am struggling as I think I am just too aggressive into the corners and not letting the car flow around. all I have to show for that mammoth effort is sore hands and a bruised ego an a 22.4xx 🤦‍♂️. Had a race at seca as well and didn't enjoy it either.

Think that's me done for this week, I've given it a good go but it's just not a week for me to enjoy! Will enjoy watching you boys smash it tho!!!!!

Dumping Willow Springs for Laguna Seca has done me the world of good. It's really fun to throw the Porsche around this track and I thoroughly enjoyed just doing some qualifying laps. I'm flirting with the 21s (22.004) and I'm sure I can knock another couple of tenths off.
I'm trying to find some of this mojo
Honestly I don’t think I have much left the lap, the optimum is now a stable .2xx

Also, only 6th in my bloody friends list!
Cracking time mate, I see @Barney Da Dog is up there with you on this as well, great to see you boys up near the top!!!

So didn’t quite just rock up and out a 1.18 in then 😬

I feel ya, Willow is boring, I was in this arvo too waiting for my new treadmill (I wore the last one out 🤷‍♂️) and had a good races, got bored of it.

The alt account isn’t working for me, the mid B racers are just intolerable and it’s not a nice place,

Another slow week

😂😂😂 mate nothing about any of my driving or races is just rocking up unfortunately! I wish it was!!! Hopefully the longer I do it the quicker finding pace will be!

Yeah nothing exciting this week unfortunately! Did jump on the alt account and went from the back in a C lobby which was fun seeing all the carnage play out and finished 3rd. But couldn’t be bothered to load another one! The alt account just doesn’t quite scratch the itch does it

funnily enough I just sold my treadmill Monday night! Now I’ve got a simlab sized space in the cave 😂

Agreed that Willow is on the boring side, although I have been taking great pleasure in respectful racing when you can get it, not to mention the underpants-darkening moments going into the final turn each lap.

It certainly makes a big difference when everyone's not hell-bent on chucking each other sandwards.

In other news, right after our two shared lobbies this eve, my game bugged out and I've been stuck on a spinning GT logo for the last 10 minutes. I did call it!

It’s painful mate, I keep having these good races and getting up to DR increase placements and then bam, mistake or coming together not with fault and my main account now at 35k

It makes me wonder because the good clean racers I am racing are on my main account and the cowboys are on the other account I’m racing, I know I’m answering my own question 😁 and I should just leave alone the weeks when the races don’t suit me

(big sigh)

The thing is, racing is a philosophical challenge not a comfort challenge.

Everyone races the same thing, so it’s about better consistent execution.

A few tips for C and B:

Willow is one of the most fun to learn trail braking and coasting.

T1, increase the wait time for throttle, let the car flow through it adds a large amount of time.

T6, exit is hugely important so earlier brake and throttle is the massive yield time wise.

C: Laguna is opposite in that it wants quicker transition between states more with the exception of T1/2 the rest are high precision transitions.

General tips:

Trust lifting and waiting
Brake less earlier focus on reducing “enough” speed and be patient
Don’t look at the sand, look as far ahead as you can, as early as possible. Let apexes become periphery not focus.

Without going all buddest monk don’t over drive the laps just think connect corner to corner

Also LOOK AS FAR THROUGH THE CORNER AS MUCH AS YOU CAN, everything else becomes easier.

@newmedia_dev you're right.

Somehow I've dialled in that final turn this time around. I'd go as far as to say it feels zen.
Once you nail it the last part of the lap isn’t scary/tense it’s one of the hardest parts of willow as it’s a high tense up corner which ruins the lap.

Once you can flow it the next lap is faster

Just ran a couple of 18.7s at Willow! Can stay with the WR until the up hill left/right

Another combo where using CSA appears to costing me a bit of time. I think I'm going to leave it off instead of on (unless absolutely necessary)

@Stringerbell I find it's not wasted if you run a 50+ lap session, without making progress, it's still getting the muscle memory ingrained. The gains will come in the next session or the one after. It's inevitable. (I usually set my best laps early on in a session after a mammoth run the day before)

That’s my approach, and even then I realise quickly once I have familiarity I don’t need it this is mostly A races I don’t use it on GRX races

But use what works, but the yin and the yang is learn using it it not just default.

Did it resolve itself? very frustrating!!!!

The consistency is what I notice when you watch the top guys, that and the fact it looks very smooth and little effort as they are flowing round the corners.

That last line is key and definitely gives you the feeling of having more time, although trying to do it too much at laguna has led to be getting airborne from a few sausages!!!

Yeah I feel the same, frustrating to just not get anywhere, but need to keep telling myself that at the end of the day it is just a game so it's not worth getting overly frustrated about (this advice rarely works).

Seeing the optimal in the 20.0xx keeps me coming back for more punishment.

How's your week going?

How's your week going?
It's going ok but having a "make do" week rather than being properly into it.

Need to work on my Laguna QT before it ends but also feel I'm yet to do my best at Willow. New TT open today as well which I'll want to at least Gold depending on the combo. Still searching for that elusive top 100 lap. Best is 104th so far.

Edit: 2 new TTs this week. Nope. Nothing there for me. I'll keep making do with other things then.

Suppose we have to take the rough with the smooth!

Although doesn't seem like everyone thinks it's a meh week @Barney Da Dog living his best life!!! 💪

Is that the red bull at Monza that's out now?

I'm a bit fixated on getting my Laguna QT into the 21's but don't want to spend another few hundred laps in quali so think I might switch to the alt and go from the back to give me a chance to learn the course more and get some much needed work on my race craft as well

You're telling me! I'd already decided to make it my final race of the day. The first time, I got an error when trying to share my replay (12MB data but no actual replay therein). Then the second time I got a full-blown crash when saving the replay in the first instance. Screen totally frozen on post race lobby.

Very strange, and the first game-killing big I think I've had in 4 years.

And all the this on the same day that I had to perform a factory reset on my TV because I fired up GT7 and there was a near 0.5 second delay between the video and the audio. Quite the eventful day.

oh dear! technology is wonderful until it isnt!!!

i saw a streamer this morning saying that saying the replay was crashing his system as well so maybe an issue across the board with replays?

I used to hate it early in GT Sport, but it became a favourite. It's got a great flow and the less you attack, the faster you get. I still lose about 3 tenths to the top guys coming out of the twisty bit - 4th is best but harder to get the line right consistently in my case.

I'm also enjoying Laguna but may have to ditch the Ferrari as the Porsche just feels a bit more forgiving

So I’m trying to take on board Glens comments about braking earlier and less and coast more but it’s so counterintuitive, now Barney is saying less attacking, man this is confusing stuff for a racer right? 😁

But I did a take a little time off with the alt, 19.288 now so hopefully at the weekend this 18 comes.

I did have a peach of a last corner though, racing this one chap all race, very nice and clean and last corner I must have aced it and he must have over done it ever so slightly because I just sort of eased inside and ahead of him and finished 4th just ahead 😁

Gents

Looking for a bit of advice on upgrading the setup.

At the moment I have a playseat trophy plopped in front of a 100 inch tv but want to upgrade to a Simlab GT Evo for more of an upright/comfortable seating and a bit more room between the wheel deck and knees and because I just like the look of it 😬

My question is for those with proper rigs:

1. Is it a big upgrade moving from the trophy?

2. Should I put a 45/50 inch screen mounted directly on the rig or put wheels on the bottom of the rig and put it in front of the 100inch?

3. @Bondwhar @newmedia_dev I know you will say PSVR and this is deffo something I will look at in the future but at the moment I’m enjoying flat screen

Thanks guys

Mate you gotta leave that tv as is, that’s just amazing looking 😁

I’ve got one of this aluminium jobbies and it’s solid as, bear in mind the nm of your wheel, fanatec for instance is getting stronger with updates and your rig need to cope with it

I’ve got a 48 LG C1 mounted and it’s decent,

Tv is deffo staying mate as there is a big couch out of shot so the room doubles up as a cimema room.

My choice is setting the rig up with screen where the running machine is in that photo or having it in front of the tv.

I just can’t work out if 50 inch in front of my face in the rig will be better than the 100 inch in the wall and it’s doing my head in

I used to have a big TV far away, and now have a small TV/monitor close up. I prefer the close up as it feels a bit more engaging - but the overall viewing angle is probably similar

There really isn’t a lot left in it for me now, the margins are so fine so currently 130th and achieved my optimum.

Really pleased considering how little I’ve been able to drive recently.

I will have a double shot plus espresso from the coffee machine tomorrow morning and have another attempt. If I can nail the last part of the twisty bit I can find 2 or 3 tenths - and hopefully not lose it in the last turn

That’s my problem, nail T1/2 choke a fraction on the turn in for the uphill and then the final corner it’s a skill to overlap brake and throttle “just enough”

I’ll buy your coffee mate 😀

Seriously impressive times both you if you!!!

@Barney Da Dog did we get a caffeine fueled PB this morning?

Decided I’m going to put 100 more laps into Laguna this evening. It’s just knowing away at the back of my mind all day that I can’t get a decent time!
Well....
I've gained a couple of tenths coming out of the twisty bit, but appear to have forgotten how to do the rest of the lap!

May try again after work but will probably just stick to racing as even a couple of tenths isn't going to affect my race much.

Race C, so close to my first A+ GR3 win but threw it away all by myself at the corkscrew 😭
