Been getting back into GT6 the past few days and it's left me wondering what PD will do to gain back some of the fans who may have left, keep the existing loyal fanbase and attract new fans to what is now recognised as a genuine marketing tool for car makers. I have my concerns that in PDs quest for absolute perfection they are loosing site of what is essentially a game. I've grown up with GT since I was old enough to pick a controller (I'm 28) and I think I've nailed the problem PD has I'd like to know if you guys agree or if it's just me...
I've found it hard to get into GT5/6 and at first I thought this was because I'm getting older and less interested in the game. However, they both lack that immersive experience that was so rich in GT2/3. I think this is mainly down to the career mode and it's general lack of events and imagination. The GT mode is the heart and soul of GT imo, it is where a lot of the fun is and no matter how rubbish the AI is, or how many cars or tracks you have, this is where it has to be great. I long list of varied events, taking in all walks of life... I fondly remember the old Rome 45min Enduro in my Motorsport Elise from GT2.
Maybe the gaming industry has moved on and now all people want is a quick 2-3 lap race and that's it? I don't know the answer to that, but it know that having a great career mode is what I enjoyed most about GT.
More recently I have discovered the joys of using a wheel with the game which has helped open a new dimension for me, but we also seem to have a distinct lack of modern machinery in recent games. It's all well having over a 1000 cars, but when half are duplicates of MX5s and Skylines, you do feel abit cheated at the claim. I can forgive standard cars, but that's starting to look silly when you see how beautiful Project Cars is... So where are the Mclaren P1s, Focus RS and old hags like premium Supras etc... Personally, I'd rather they put time and effort into these areas than making Vision GT cars.
Anyway, wanted to get that off my chest. What PD is doing well imo, are things like the tracks and their level of detail is awesome, the the physics remain a good blend of realism and user friendliness. I would just say they do need to adjust some of the physics for front wheel drive cars though because it's borderline impossible to get them to lift off oversteer haha...
Thoughts guys?
