Hmm, much more forward progress on the Miata seems to be eluding me - or moreso, all on one lap.

Was only able to better my time by 0.035 seconds, down to a 1:28.699.

But my optimum is only in the .4s, so I'm really not sure what else I'm missing here.

After studying WR lap the only difference I could see between them and my PB is that I change down gears slightly earlier, particularly 4 to 3rd.

Trouble with trying to replicate it is muscle memory. My fingers switch gears automatically before my brain gets chance to tell them to hold off a split second 😆!

I lose all my time in the first sector. Very rarely do I hit below 33 seconds. Anything above 33.2 is "retry"

(I've changed my wheel btw. Got a GT DD Pro now solely because I wanted the ability to increase steering sensitivity.)

That’s all I’ve got and let’s never speak of this trial again

I know I'm not that good a driver relative to the folks who post here, but after having my borderline gold bumped down into silver, I had to give it another go.

Proud to have managed to get gold in pink (yes, I know the Safety Car is faster).

Here's hoping I stay in Gold for good this time!

I have to say though, this is a really fun combo, and props to PD for coming up with it. Fictional tracks introduced in GT7 tend to be extraordinarily cursed in reverse, but Trial Mountain flows really well somehow. The Crown takes its upgraded Sports Hard tyres really well, and it's refreshing to have two similar but distinct car choices in an Online Time Trial. The open differential in the base car versus the Limited Slip Diff in the Safety Car felt like the game teaching me about cars and how each of them demand to be driven, almost like the Licence Tests of older games. I might find myself falling in love with the Crown at this rate

@XSquareStickIt - use the safety car, it’s faster out of corners as it has a limited slip differential in the axle that limits the amount of wheelspin of the inside rear wheel.

@Gomario JSP - epic mate, well done!!!

Good session this morning. Up half a second(!!!) in the Toyota Crown Lethargic and have my sights on a very high 12 based on optimal splits. Happy so far though! Thanks for the continued motivation from this very fast group of folks!

Oh good, you achieved my goal, so I don't have to now :D

I've been away from my main account for the past week, I started a brand new account because VR2, I wanted to experience the complete game from start to finish in the way it's meant to be played, all the missions, licences etc.

And honestly I got bored from the main one, I completed the game long long time ago and it was basically time trials and weekly challenges, not very challenging or interesting tbh. I'll add all of you on PSN when I have the time, 'cause I won't be using the old one anymore, but it will be some time before I go back to TTs, first to do the offline part

Until then, feel free to add me @ VR2_Vule

Yeah, I feel like I'm doing similar things to the #1 lap and yet, apparently not. Maybe I'm not getting on the throttle quick enough? I'm not real sure. Some laps that works great if I'm quick on it, and others I go around in a circle.

I maybe need to try dropping FFB torque down to min (from Max) on my 923, as some cars benefit from that ability for me to toss them that much quicker. I've got FFB sensitivity on max always.

You have great driving lines, precise braking, acceleration, and most importantly your composure throughout the track. That’s why you are where you are!!!
Respect!!!
Thank you, I appreciate it! I made a few mistakes though, I ran a bit wide onto the grass after Turn 3, and the middle sector wasn’t the greatest either, so there’s more time in it.😅

So, about the Celica @ Suzuka combo…

IMG_7213.webp

Gotta grab those low-hanging fruits while they still were there :D

I found this combo immensely easy to attain gold. How easy? While I usually take 2 days of 3-hour gaming just to achieve gold for an average online TT, this one took me like 4 hours at most to get the time listed here. Maybe it’s my familiarity with Suzuka (in particular the S-curves) since GT5P, maybe it’s that the car is a low-powered front-engined 4WD (so no messy oversteer from heavy-footed acceleration, some countersteering would have it pointing in the right direction languidly), but it’s easily one of the easiest online TTs that I’ve attained gold on, ranking right there with Chaparral 2X @ Daytona Tri-Oval. OK, maybe it sounds a bit too much like a hyperbole, but consider this: the Charger Hellcat @ Northern Isle, in spite of my best attempts over 2 days, only saw me bagging a silver. If only online TTs are usually that easy. :P

Well, if they’re that easy, then I’d have reached my target of getting 10 golds many moons ago, instead of being at my current 9. Probably could’ve gotten it with the preceding Camaro Race-Mod @ High Speed Ring, seeing as the Racing Softs provide a lot of grip on not a lot of precision-demanding corners there, but I don’t really like doing realistically non-existent/-functional cars at realistically non-existent tracks. 🫤 So I’m happy with improving my personal best ranking in Suzuka!

The beginning of your sentence had me worried, the end was better for my self esteem 🤣 (not that I mock you for needing 4 hours to gold this TT, but you needed to work a little bit)

Oh well, I don’t play online TTs all that often nowadays. I just don’t like the idea of spending hours chasing after a tenth or two unless something more palpable is up for grabs, like I’m close to getting into a higher bracket. I definitely am slow for a player of my experience (I still remember struggling like hell to get gold on the Gr. 4 @ Alsace Test Course Reverse TT, and I failed, in the Alfa 155 ), and I’m sure there are car/track combos where you’ll outshine me by a million miles no matter how hard I try, but I just prefer driving leisurely and feeling the feedback the car’s giving me and interacting with it, even if it meant I’m not even touching any apexes and am over- and counter-steering out of corners. I mean, I kinda intended my post to be sharing my joy from getting the 9th gold towards my target of 10, although I can sense that my post is giving slight “tooting my own horn” vibes, which I totally didn’t mean to.

So I’ll just happily take my DR D-rated kiddie’s stool and watch as the titans duke it out in this thread. :D

guys is it just me or this one is difficult, any tips if someone wants to watch? I'm washed and I use buttons lol , but still aliens give some tips and don't try 😉

You stated that “this one is difficult”. Try the safety car and it should be less difficult. It’s up to you now.

ok, thanks, I've read previous pages, I get it now, I'll leave it to destiny to decide lol, 2:15.150 should probably be good enough so I'll risk and take it hard way, road car with buttons, living on hard mode 😆

when event started, prediction was 2.16.0 for gold so I'll just take my chances probably, if someone can bring down 0.320 from gold than whatever 😵

Taking a bit of time to get used to the Crown. I was running the 458 over on the Daily 😎 FYI....the Crown is NOT the 458. Anyways, feeling like I may be able to get my 3rd Top 100 out of this one once I get settled in to it, BUT, it is a bit early still.
What I managed to get today!

Very fun combo!

Once you learn the reverse layout and get used to how the Crown behaves, it becomes a real pleasure to drive.

Joined the 2:12s club today 💪🏻

Funny enough, my weakest sector is the first one. I struggle to stay with the ghost on the exit of the opening chicane, and even more on the left-hander before sector 2 ... I just can’t seem to get on the power early enough there.

The final flowing section is also a bit sketchy. It’s hard to fully trust the car and commit without overdriving. Watching the top laps made me realize I was lifting way too much through there.

All in all, a really enjoyable combo. I sure have a tenth or two in it… just a matter of putting it all together 🤔
