PSVR2 has just dropped by another £45 to £355 in the UK… that is dangerously tempting
For me it's still too much just to play one game, no matter how good that one game is.

Hopefully at least one of the upcoming racers on PS5 supports it (PMR, ACE, LMU, etc). F1 25 continues the annoying trend of only supporting VR on PC.

I can understand this view; for me it's about how much time I spend enjoying said purchase.

For me, my purchase of any PlayStation is almost solely based on Gran Turismo. I got my first PlayStation as a gift and they gave it to me w/ Gran Turismo. Each PS I've bought since then was either for Gran Turismo & possibly a fighting game or two (PS2-PS3) or Gran Turismo outright (PS4-PS5.)

Related, one of the best co-habitation decisions I ever made was buying two PS3 slims when my fat PS3 died. She is a Final Fantasy person almost the way I'm a Gran Turismo person. Nobody has to wait for the other to stop playing to get our respective obsession on.

When my family moved into the new house (when I was almost two) my father placed the sound system before anything else. All the other furniture was placed afterwards with the sound system in mind. Any sound system I've gotten from Gran Turismo 4: The Drive of your Life was purchased with Gran Turismo in mind. When we moved to our first house, I decided where the sound system & Gran Turismo would go first before anything else in the house.

Because of this approach, the PSVR2 was the first thing I treated myself to when I got my current job. Now I have my PS5 & PSVR2 w/ no other screen down in the basement (setup is in my signature.)

TL;DR: I'd recommend basing that decision on how often a person plays Gran Turismo 7, not the number of games played. If you play GT7 enough, you'll get your money's worth by a wide margin.

I would say the opposite is true too. What I mean is that if you have limited time for GT, the PSVR2 will enable you to get the most out of the time you have.

Yep I totally get your point of view as well. I'm probably different from a lot of the others in this place - I'm a gamer who also plays some driving games, not a simracer (I have put about 1500 hours into GT7 but that is very much an exception and I barely play it currently). For the purchase to be worth it for me personally I need a variety of games (the original headset was better in that regard, I still have it), so if I was seriously invested in VR racing and totally opposed to future flatscreen racing I'd almost certainly have to go to PC.

I played Kayak VR and loved it, Beat Saber looks fun as does the upcoming Aces of Thunder. I’ll decided on Monday… if it’s in stock, I’ll pull the trigger.
There’s a good chance your wife will like beat saber. You should also look into pistol whip.

Just get the thing man. And report back pls.

That still means PSVR2, its a PC device too, works on Steam for VR I believe.

It does work yes, but some features are not supported (eye tracking, foveated rendering), you are restricted to Steam. and there are several alternative options. If you already have the headset for PS5 and then switch to PC it’s fine, but it probably wouldn’t be what you choose for a purely PC setup.

As I said before hopefully Project Motor Racing & AC Evo have eventual VR support on console (Le Mans Ultimate is probably too much to ask for) and I can finally join the virtual club without buying a gaming PC.

They don't make it anymore so jump while you have the chance. As a solo player, adding VR and Sophy to create race is too much fun. It's the best racing I've ever had in Gran Turismo.

The ideal set up is to have a wheel, but on controller, following SOPHY under hard deceleration, it's an actual joy. On par with following AI in ACC.

Love being able to downshift, bleeding off speed, with the gradual slowing and trail breaking and then smoothly accelerating out of a corner to do it all again. Really has the thrill of TOCA 1&2.

If you are going to do it have a little shop around. It's a bit under £350 in some places other than PS Direct (Currys, Amazon, etc), and with cashback/voucher codes you can get an even tastier deal.

ahem

CAN I GET AN AMEN???

Full marks to this individual on this vid. Preaching to the choir, I know. But still . . .

Thanks! So well articulated! I would add another reason for VR...

In the three stores where you can buy cars, you can inspect them in detail BEFORE buying.

There are cars I have bought simply because, when I "sat in them" and looked around, I found the experience to be compelling. Maybe because of the instrumentation or whatever, but there are cars which, from the outside, didn't grab me, but spending a few minutes in the driving seat inspired me to part with my hard earned credits.

-----
And a bonus one, you can sit in the Gullwing and look out through the air vent just like in the real car...

I realize I'm breaking some rules about "double posting", but I'll ask for forgiveness instead of permission.

Here's a deeper dive into inspecting a car before purchasing. 20 million credits is a lot for an old Alfa Romeo.

So let's take a closer look. Does it REALLY only have 547 miles on the clock after over 80 years? Come into the VR showroom...

Nice! We could take a slow walk around the outside, but let's just hop in!

I'll leave you to browse these screen shots. Don't forget to check the odometer.

Did you notice that the accelerator pedal is between the clutch and the brake? I had a 1929 Ford Model A which in RHD, had that layout. Took a bit to get used to.

These 2D shots don't do it justice. I think I'll have to have this car. One day...

Exactly what I do to see what I'm missing by not buying a car. Some cars I don't like the interior that much. So, I pass on the purchase. Which, is mainly anything above two million.

You guys are going to get me divorced
@GBO Possum is spot on. I was made fun of for my “silly headset” when it first came out. And I was really made fun of when my wife said she saw me leaning into some turns on a video game. So I did what GBO did and had her sit in and look around some cars. She proceeded to ask me to switch cars until she started feeling nauseous. Now I still get laughed at for making funny faces with my mouth, but she is onboard. I fought back but then was shown a video. I look silly. Escapism is more important.
