Picks for tonight. WTC 600 at Tokyo is just gonna be wallride central because screw that race, otherwise fun week.

Decent week. Sunday Cup is really easy so I used the Ford Roadster, this is a fun race to also go in the fastest thing possible just to see how fast you can finish. 4WD Challenge is also pretty easy but perfect for 550 PP part tuned road cars. Turbo Sports Cars will depend on the grid you get, mine had the AMG GT R on pole and it was also by far the quickest AI, stock Alfa Romeo Giulia was enough and quite fun to drive. Wang challenge was a bit flaccid, at least the sunset was nice. WTC 600 is a classic and there's a lot of options either with stock cars, part tuned or stupidly overpowered stuff. I went with a part tuned Cayman GT4 and had a pretty good race, struggles a bit on the straight but you make up a lot in the corners. Sometimes can be a little hard to avoid the AI randomly braking, I find getting the clean race bonus is a lot easier with cars that are fast on the straights.

Cars for this week:

Who's up for my Tokyo 600 stock car challenge!?

RULES
Game Difficulty

Car - any completely stock vehicle straight off the showroom floor. No tuning, no tyre changes, no ballist, no cpu - NOTHING

Place 1st with a Clean Race Bonus

Lowest PP car wins... respect 🏁
Hey ! Very good idea for this race 👍👏
Let me choose the right car ?! 🤔
See you tomorrow for the weekly recap 😉

this is a weird week

first we have to parse the meaning of "next week" from Kaz

then the weird lineup on time trials to expire simultaneously (5 days from this post, h/t naffantait)

this week's races seem like they are mailing it in and the first race is the definition of the minimum effort
using the Chinese Yaoi electric car seemed appropriate

looking forward to the rumoured Caterham 500 and a little more effort next week

PS
the cappuccino is the silliest/most fun tokyo 600 ringer

Welcome to this week’s challenges. This week, we have small oval action, the return of the Yangwang one-make, and the infamous Tokyo 600 grind race. We also have a chance to get a cool car at the end of it all. Here’s how I fared.

Race 1 - Sunday Cup @ Northern Isle

A track that isn’t used much at all in this game, this early-game race is easily forgotten. Here, you must complete it in order to obtain the rewards this week. Sure, you could use a machine like the Tomahawk S or something to blitz through without a blank to give. However, I don’t work that way, so I used something more…ideal for a Sunday Cup race. Enter the Mazda Demio XD Touring. Bone stock, comfort soft tires, nothing else. Managed to overtake the leading Prius on the final lap and won by just about a second.

Race 2 - Japanese 4WD Challenge 600 @ Kyoto

I personally like this track, specifically the Yamagiwa layout by itself, which is what we’re using for this one. I decided to go with the Mitsubishi GTO, which is one of my favorite cars to use in the game. Sitting at just under 600PP with sports mediums and tuning parts, this car will more than easily beat its rivals. It has tremendous grip and sounds pretty good on its standard V6 too. Won by a good margin, so I could get away with less power or less grippy tires.

Race 3 - Race of Turbo Sports @ The Glen

One of my favorite tracks in the game. I have put in quite a few laps here with various cars, so I should be very familiar. As I have gathered, the AI is just so bad in the Race of Turbo Sports events. You can get away with a decent handicap from the 700PP limit. Can a fully upgraded Honda S800 with a turbo kit and 191 horsepower on its standard engine win it? Hell yeah it can…in the right hands. Got by the leader on lap 4 and won by a couple seconds. Absolutely loved this thing, especially the high-revving engine. It certainly screams.

Its main flaw, which I had the misfortune to discover myself, is how it handles curbs. It detests these things, transforming from an oversized go-kart into an oversized pogo stick in an instant if you take a curb aggressively. Be very careful over them.

Race 4 - Yangwang One-Make @ Grand Valley

Since I don’t really like either of the two Chinese cars, I just wanted to get this one over with as quickly as possible. So, the U9 I used was fully upgraded. Of course, the upgrades themselves are limited: three stages of weight reduction, customizable suspension, race brakes, aero, and soft slicks. As far as the driving experience with upgrades and tuning, it’s a nice contrast to the Xiaomi which has too much oversteer. So, it shouldn’t be too difficult to soundly beat the AI while keeping your Yangwang on the track. Got past the leader on lap 2 and never looked back. Okay, next…

Race 5 - WTC 600 @ Tokyo East CW

Ah yes, the infamous grind race that we’ve been dealing with for years now. Some of us will bust out the glitch builds like the ‘99 Subaru and destroy the field. I decided to take the normal route and used something that wouldn’t trick the performance point system into thinking the car is slower than it actually is. I used the Mk4 Toyota Supra RZ, which is capable of winning the old-fashioned way. Setting low front and high rear downforce, using a manual transmission, removing the racing braking parts, throwing some ballast weight on with a distribution at or near 50:50, and using sports hard tires can help drop your car’s PP rating while keeping your power fairly high. Considering this race favors power over handling with that very long straight, I’d say it’s more important to have as much power as possible. However, you do want some handling through the twisties in the middle of the lap. Tweaking the suspension and LSD to promote more agility can help with this. The PP rating will not be affected by suspension and LSD setting changes.

Remember that the track starts out damp, then slowly dries out over time. For the first few laps, you must be careful. Go too wide and the wetter part of the track will suck you off course and into a wall. Stay on the dry line and you should be good there. My Supra is also capable of kicking the tail out when exiting slower corners, especially the final hairpin before the main straight. Throttle control is important, whether your car is understeery or oversteery. Wall ride if you wish, but I personally have zero tolerance for it in my own runs.

In the end, I beat Kokobun’s RX-7 by 30+ seconds. I pitted on lap 8 and cruised to victory after some fuel. Some like to crush their rivals with something that doesn’t belong. I like to battle my way through the field.

With the challenges completed, it was time to open my six-star car ticket. For me, it was the Pagani Zonda R. A very cool car indeed. Since I had another one sitting around, I wound up selling the duplicate for 1.28 million credits. Lots of money made this week.

That was how I got through the challenges this week. Take care!

Re: WTC 600

I started with my MB-AMG C 63 at 600 because it wins nearly everything at 600. It didn't have a chance with 281 Kph at the end of that long straight.

Took the winning car, the RE RX-7 and thought that it would also be toast because it only got up to about 269 Kph. It did a lot better without having to pit, but didn't get close enough to even get 3rd, either.

The same RX-7 won again, so this isn't making a lot of sense. 🤔

There are many factors in that race that we barely see.

The AI themselves do rubberband, and even on Hard difficulty, run a slow enough car and they can hit 2:10s or 2:09s the fastest.

But run a decently tuned car and they can touch 2:08s.

If you use exploit tunes, then 2:08s are their best as well.

Here's the odd part: Get close enough to Gallo's NSX, and it will suddenly rocket away in the early laps.

There are many variables at play, and luck can be in your favor.

This race at Tokyo made me hate it from the very first time .
And every time i have to do it for a reason ( like now ) the feeling remains the same as of course my inability to copy with that 🤣 .
Although i fully understand why many people love it and have it- at least at past - as their favourite griding race .
Just picked from curiosity, a Viper gts 02 stock and stupidly insist to do all laps .
With first turn wall riding ( honestly above all ) end up 7th and needed to find around 25 seconds to catch Kokubun 🤣
Lack of skills, first and lack of any will aren't allow me even to think that i can participate on this @jad_morffier challenge .
Even the swapped car i use to do it for the first time find me without CRB at first place .

Of course am curious to see what happens at the end with all those who love it and see where it will go at the end .
Congratulations to all those who did it or will do it in the short future .
As for me , this race always bring me an existing crisis kind like that

There sure is something that I don't see. 😁

I've taken 1st place before [no idea how now], it's just that I am not getting even close to taking 3rd place yet.

For my last attempt, I saw that the GT-R had the fastest lap (a 2'09?) and I used it, but it has tire and fuel issues, of course, so I split the fronts to Hards and they barely survived and I still ended up a lap short of fuel, somehow, while dealing with aggressive AI, fuel rate manipulation so that pitting wasn't necessary, and other things. Apparently, even going over 300 Kph isn't good enough.

I Only used two cars for this weeks races. A Yangwang for the special race
and a rally swapped Impreza for the rest. P1 and CRB for all of them.

Sunday Cup: Honda S660. EZ
Japanese 4WD Challenge 600: Suzuki VGT. Pretty much a cheat code because it just leaves everything (As long as you can control the rear)
Race Of Turbo Sportscars: Jaguar XJ220. LM Race Car build returns and does its thing.
World Touring Car 600: Honda NSX 2017. Still has the Racing Brakes when I finally beat this race, just set to "Easy" and wall rode. Don't have me do this again, PD.
Special Event: That was one of the easier races (If you can believe it, despite being on hard as usual).
