With regards to thing like damage and even driving dynamics; in my opinion, GTA (the newer ones: Gay Tony, TLAD etc.) are much better. In GT, if you hit a barrier at 200mph, you're car slightly 'melts' and there's practically no visual damage; do this in GTA and you almost total the car whilst you fly through the windscreen.
Plus, the cars do feel slightly more realistic to drive.
Am I alone?..

Haha in GTA you drive in a hurry with no seat belts.
No wonder why you fly out of the window if you crash at 200 mph. :dopey:

Yes, you're alone on this.

What I'm basically saying is that GT5s damage is very poor in relation to games like GTA.

only if you are in a rush to get away, if you get in the car, and wait a few seconds, you put on a seat belt (not visually, but u don't get ejected from the car no more)

GTA and GT5 are completely different games. The physics are not alike in anyway. Not sure why your posting a thread that really does not have anything to do with GT5.

GTA uses fake cars. The real auto manufacturers may not want their cars bent in half and on fire.

See Shift 2 or Forza 4, to a much lesser extent. All the recent racing releases have much higher levels of damage representation that GT5, in Shift 2 I was almost driving around in bare shells after rolling in the gravel traps a few times for a laugh.

GRAN TURISMO is influencing all other racing games - not your title. Have you seen the result of its motto: "The Real Driving Simulator".

Below are real drivers now who are racing professionally.

Lucas Ordoñez, Jordan Tresson, Bryan Heitkotter and Jann Mardenborough

Neither GT5 nor Forza 4 have 'good' damage. Forza's is a little more substantial in that parts will fall of most cars rather than just WRC cars and more panels will be crumpled but generally it's pretty poor, scratches all over panels that aren't even hit, strange marks on the cars etc.

Shift 2 (and GRID) were better because there were much less cars to model and most cars were racing models, which manufacturers tend to give more freedom on their destruction. Not to mention those games lacked in the phsyics areas greatly compared to GT and Forza.

I've been thinking about GTA IV and GT5 being combined for a while now. The damage physics in GTA4 is simply awesome. A grenade blows up feet from a car and will leave a HUGE indentation that'll cause the tires to grind against the fender. The driving physics in that game were unexpectedly not GTA and more life-like than most all other games with drivable cars. I used to dislike how easy everything was to throw around/"drive" in the older GTA's.

I've even hit a kurb too fast and lost wheels in Shift 2.
Shift 2 has the best damage, by far. If Shift 2 can get it done, GT should be able to do it as Shift 2 is described to be a sort of simulator in the sense of being in a racer's seat. The sense of speed/racing feel and damage in Shift 2 is done better than in GT5.

I still wonder how much car manufacturers limit the damage model in GT5 as GT's been known to be an all-around sim. Seeing Shift 2's damage model, I expect something as good to be in the next GT. I'd be really disappointed if it's more like GT5's than Shift's damage.

a teeny tiny bit irrelevant to this thread

Man, all this talk about GTA is bringing back memories...

I'm gonna have to pop it in and do the old "pick up a hooker, serviced, kill hooker, get money back, shoot cops while driving away, crash car, run away, repeat."

Gran Turismo is not a crashing simulator, stay on the road man

Although I would love a super realistic damage model, as in the car would split into little pieces and the driver launched through the air when you strike the barrier at 500kmh in the X1

Those were the days :D

Am I understanding that the Manufacturers basically say this, "Yeah, you can use our rides, but we don't want them getting too heavily damaged in your game"?

There's more than that number of people in jail after GTA the real thug simulator!

GTA cars drives like they use jelly instead of hydralic spring suspension.
E-brake and it flips like it's playing V-Rally on N64...
