GTA3 for me wss the peak. Atmosphere and soundtrack was on point. The city was great, without barren areas. had the perfect size, imo.
if they had it with SA gameplay, it would be incredible.

GTA IV takes the cake in driving, despite yhe weird angled camera.

Honestly I reckon the delay is none of the previous reasons.

GTA has always (or, for that one guy right now, since the start of the 3D era and the beginning of what's recognisably modern GTA) been set in a satirised caricature of the USA.

Right now it's impossible to satirise or caricature the USA. They're probably having to work out a way to demolish 30% of the governor's mansion and make it gold- and ketchup-plated.
I doubt it'll be any easier to write more fitting and current satire given six more months of unpredictable additions to the lurid history of the United States. The overall tone of the game is surely set by now, additional incidental dialogue and side-bits are probably still being written and recorded, I would guess, but I don't think the game will comment too specifically on the 2024- federal administration.

The 'GTA' 3D trilogy had some obvious fun with taking the wind out of American exceptionalism, commenting on how absurd the gun culture looks from the outside, but revelling in the entertainment factor of American crime media, popular worldwide. The games make a lot of sense as a foreign response to the yee-ha patriotism of the Bush years.

With the changing times, podcasts more outlandish than anything said on in-game radio, and a greater worldwide exposure to years of the barely believable antics of Florida Man; 'GTA VI' will no doubt be a satire, but I'm expecting it'll be received as a more realistic, even optimistic satire, with a tone like 'One Battle After Another'.

I imagine what the many hundreds of developers have ahead of them now is 376 days (of crunch, unfortunately) to make sure this unprecedentedly large and technically complex game works as neatly as 'GTA V' and 'RDRII' did. Something on the order of 500,000 hours of playtesting to find bugs. I hope for the developers' sake they won't be doing major mission changes too late.

Good. Let it and the whole ****** company die.
It should because I absolutely hate everything they stand for. People who complained about GT7's "predatory" practices early on in the game's life don't know what they're on about because GTA V was and still is THE WORST when it comes to microtransactions and the economy. Imagine inflating the price of a $30,000 car 20 fold to essentially force the purchase of a microtransaction. You don't want to grind, right? This is how Rockstar screws people over. Trust me, I bought into it because I too wanted certain things without having to grind and waste time. It's the sort of thing Clash Of Clans has done with it's gemstones and you can very easily go overboard because the game is free to play. You're like, "just a bit more, just a bit more" and before you know it you've spent $150 on a trivial game. My brother spent that amount on microtransactions in GTA V and mum was pissed off because he got a hold of her credit card somehow. This is the **** Rockstar can cause and I hate it for that. I could go on about how they beat a dead horse with GTA V, the horrible working conditions and the shuttering of studios responsible for other IPs such as Midnight Club. They're money hungry capitalist scoundrels.

I partially agree. The greed of the cash-for-GTA$ system, and Rockstar's management of vehicle and property prices is appalling. Good point on mentioning GT7, too, as it also has the option of buying cars for up to $300AUD. F2P and mobile games prey on enabling an addictive personality in their players, hoping they don't realise they're spending sometimes thousands of dollars a month for virtually nothing. Purchasable in-game currencies should have never been legal, and exist to the detriment of all games.

Rockstar is just one part of Take-Two Interactive, who also own 2K and Zynga, more of the worst offenders in this space.
If purchasable in-game currencies ever are banned, it will be an abrupt end to 'Fortnite' (good riddance!), all mobile games besides 'Flow', 'Snake', and 'Solitaire', and 'GTA Online' would be very different. Annual sports games would have to actually try and improve their gameplay rather than make new tiers of virtual trading cards, and every cool hat you see in a game would be unlockable. Basically utopia, or gaming before 2009.

My reservation, and reasoning for only partially agreeing, is that we can't fairly shutter Rockstar for their greed without dismantling the whole "diamonds and crates" ecosystem that they exist in, and that I don't want them to go broke just yet, because I want to play the single-player component of 'GTA VI'.
To run on that virtual sand, see the next-gen beer-bottle condensation on my own TV... I know my selfish desire to play this shiny new game only makes giant corporations wealthier, but if the product is good, and I want it (on console), there's not really another way. I'll just offset it by spending a lot more money on indies.

I started replaying the OG GTA3 (on PSN) and jeebus that soundtrack still holds up as the best
MSX and KJAH are full of wins
This!

One of the unofficial PS magazines from back then gave away a MSX FM music CD before the game released. Not only did that peak my interest in the game it also got me into Drum and Bass big time. Still raving to this day at 40 years young 😅 also still have that CD.

I agree that the soundtrack is the best overall, even the chat show radio stations haven't been bettered since GTA3 in my opinion.

The firing of the 40 employees might be one of the reason this got delayed. This firing situation is just really horrible.
**** Rockstar.

Unions are the only protection in this new world where our politicians do zip to stop unfettered capitalism.

Who are they serving? Certainly not working people, only the fat cats giving them campaign donations

Make of it what you want - I’ve just been told by a friend of mine on the inside that the delay is directly tied to R*‘s recent union busting and the firing of many workers in senior roles.

I hope they don’t get away with it. (They will)
No they won’t.
Don’t buy the game.
Review bomb the game and ask for all employees to be reinstated

I get where you’re coming from, but bringing those employees back wouldn’t really solve anything. They’d still be returning to the same toxic environment that caused the issues in the first place.

A fairer outcome would be strong severance packages and the freedom to build something better elsewhere, maybe even a new studio of their own, like the ex-Playground Games team that went on to form Maverick Games.

Im just saying first step is recognizing that this is unfair dismissal. Once the labour court has determined that, conditions for a fair departure are set, resulting in stronger severances.

Unfair dismissal is an extremely common transgression and it’s also very obvious in this case. I hope the employees are taking this to court and rockstar gets slapped with a HUGE fine.

How about 100 million USD? Maybe then the fat cats think twice about breaking workers rights. Because right now, they don’t even blink.

From a discussion about the game in gaming leaks subreddit. If this is true then it's insane.

Edit : apparently the console certi in question is Playstation.

Interesting... is this software related i.e. performance or political? There was a lot of flack taken for Red Dead 2 later in its life with some of the actions a player could take after it was highlighted on a famous podcast

I've been into the scene since 92' as a 12year old (45 now) and started collecting mix Drum and Bass mixes throughout the 90s-00s...and never heard those MSX mixes unitl that game. also put together some pretty good mixes myself

I knew of moving shadow- timecode(aka Rob Playford) and Rymetime (who went by a different MC name on the game)

I actually had to hunt down the original CD when you had to go to the store to buy CD's. Come to find that the mix that is on the game is a lot longer too

Software related most likely. That user said it's more to do with whether the game can launch on the console properly or not. That includes how it respond to the controller, performance etc.

He did say they're listing bugs too. He also said the graphics is too demanding and it might be a massive game which could mean the game is buckling under it's own weight (his words).

That would be crazy if everything are happening in real time and I mean everything. Not just rendering when you see it, but happening off screen at all locations of the game.

York gives his thought as a former GTA/RDR2 dev.

In his eyes, it's usually a mixture of things, but more than likely a development issue, citing his previous experience with GTA 5 introducing first person & how open world games involve thousands of bugs to work through. He thinks possibly, Rockstar may be updating their facial animations based on what Unreal is accomplishing. But ultimately, it may also just be polishing b/c he notes Rockstar is like Pixar, there is a high standard they're going to be held to & they want to make sure everything is exactly as they want it. He's fine with the delay, we've already waited this long & that this is most likely the set date as November's a good time to release games and this year will give them a solid amount of time.

Always glad to see another DnB head.

Moving shadow had basically disappeared by the time I started raving but I still listen to that set and all the old school sets quite often.

When GTA 4 released and it was set in liberty city I was hoping it had MSX FM or something similar but it didn't. Very unlikely GTA6 will either.

Yeah the 2000s vibe for games and soundtracks was perfect. lol you know I don't even remember the soundtrack for GTA5, I think I had to music off in the settings...GTA6 soundtrack will probably be the same once when I get around to playing it circa 2030

We're now in the final year of our lives pre-GTA6. The countdown has begun.
Ok, this time we really are in the final year of our lives pre-GTA6. The new countdown has begun.
