It's just not worth $400, nor is it focused on the main protagonists like most CE do now-a-days. Instead, it's centered around some in-game TV show character we have no info about nor any connection to (we know what Jason & Lucia's general story is), thus, zero reason to financially invest in it.

So don’t buy it?

Is there really any controversy around this? I genuinely don’t get it.

Do people feel forced to buy it? Does it include anything relevant to the actual game - exclusive skins, cars, weapons or something?

Genuinely asking.

Otherwise, buy it if you’re interested and keep your money if you’re not. Much like with… basically anything ever.

Yes, because it's over priced for what you get. When the game's biggest influencers are questioning the content in the box, articles are being written about it & the general consensus in GTA groups is negative, there's a sign something went wrong at Rockstar.

It's easy to say don't buy it, but that's not really the issue. For a game with this much hype & investment going into it, this is a gigantic swing & a miss. Most folks are varied that the price should be lower, the content does not justify $400 (esp. when the game is not included), it's one of the most expensive Collector's Editions ever produced, the content does not resonate with consumers which is where I am, etc.

It's a Collector's Edition for one of the most anticipated pieces of media ever. No one is forced to buy it, but it definitely preys on the most loyal fans' desire to support the game. The fact it doesn't include any in-game content is yet another major miss on Rockstar's part.

"Don't buy it" indeed, but fans/media are also going to voice their reasons as to why with legitimate reason. Rockstar should be called out on this rather than fans quietly ignoring it with their wallets.

I’d argue that putting something actually relevant to the game in this $400 box would be the real crappy move, and not doing so underlines that this is absolutely 100% optional.

Just don’t buy it and move on. I don’t mean to be a jerk here, but I absolutely do not get the controversy.

Offering in-game items is what they did for RDR2 & GTA V, breaking away from that only shows yet another opportunity Rockstar missed to incentivize people. But, that still would not justify the $400 price tag b/c the controversy isn't a single issue.

Yeah, nah.

That decision is exactly what reinforces the worst aspect of GTA; Rockstar & Take2's awful consumer practices. Don't buy & call it out are not mutually exclusive choices.

Let’s move on.
