Although it's becoming less and less relevant as advances in bandwidth exceed the pace at which games swell in size*, it's all about the preload. People want to be sure it's all downloaded and installed the moment it unlocks.Explain the logic of pre-ordering a digital code?
Thankfully, at the time on 360 it was only about 16gb with an 8gb install from the second disk.*Current UK average bandwidth would download 150GB in about 90 minutes; in 2013, downloading all 65GB of GTA5 at average UK bandwidth would have taken around ten hours.
100%, although when you buy a film, music or game on a physical media, you don't own the material, it is still just a license to use it, it can't be taken away from you. These companies are taking people for a ride, and everyone jumps on board thinking they're going to have fun on the big dipper when really it's going to chuck them off the moment their usefulness of been exploited. For consideration:

PlayStation is pulling "previously purchased" digital movies from users' libraries without so much as an apology
Sony has written to customers to advise that hundreds of "previously purchased" digital movies previously available via its online store will "be removed".www.eurogamer.net
People being happy (or at least complacent enough) to buy revokable licenses is why companies can get away with selling them, and kicking off when the company turns round and revokes them is three steps too late.
Should be 20 mins on my fancy fibre 😎Although it's becoming less and less relevant as advances in bandwidth exceed the pace at which games swell in size*, it's all about the preload. People want to be sure it's all downloaded and installed the moment it unlocks.
Preload is available a week before the game is officially available, and folk can't wait that additional 90 minutes* on launch day.

That is really crazy when you think about all the resources they have poured into this game. I would how much it cost to produce the game? I wonder what their break even point is? I am pretty sure with the built in audience for the game plus newcomers and folks like me who have played the game in the past but haven't played in a long time they will make all of that money back. But that would be interesting to know the actual cost of the gameYeah, made worse by the fact there was definitely hints of them reviving the IP a couple years ago through some job postings.
A big question folks are having is what Rockstar does after this since the entire company worldwide has been piled into 1 major studio for the last 3 projects. Some folks want another Red Dead, but I think that story arc has been perfectly done & exhausted its necessary timeline. Others would like to see a new IP. I would like to see them go back into separate studios & get another Midnight Club, as surely they understand what a monumental & taxing undertaking VI has been, something I can't see them eager to repeat for the next decade.
I actually like pre-ordering things. Paying for something well in advance makes it feel "free" when I finally get it because the money is already long gone from my account.Explain the logic of pre-ordering a digital code?
🧐 you sound like my wifePaying for something well in advance makes it feel "free" when I finally get it because the money is already long gone from my account.
Must be nice...Should be 20 mins on my fancy fibre 😎
There’s been the long standing rumor it’s cost $2 billion to produce without any real sources, but based on the bloated budget other games reportedly keep having, I suppose the chance of it having a $1+ billion budget seems pretty likely. That is really crazy when you think about all the resources they have poured into this game. I think it just means the AI will behave more realistically, as in you can see them doing more mundane/normal things in the world like watering their grass, getting on the bus, walking out of stores, things that give the world more "life". V had these occasions in Story Mode, but they were pretty rare & not seen online. You could even occasionally see someone pull into a driveway, but they'd get out & just walk down the street.I look at the amount of voice actors, scripts, code for supposedly AI avatars if they are indeed living their own day to day lives in the game. Could we actually sit on the dock bay and watch workers carry out 9 to 5 tasks? Can we follow behind a taxi and see an avatar enter their vehicle for the day, pick up and drop off passengers and follow them home? Just wondering how involved will the game be outside of the two main characters.
Seriously, the joke about “da club” above. Do those workers have a life outside of that atmosphere? Are some working another job or going to university or have partners? Like in the trailer with biker gangs, can we watch their daily activities? Does all that possible AI coding come at a heavy cost?
A recent analysis of Take-Two Interactive’s financial activity suggests the company actually generated $1 billion within an hour of preorders going live, highlighting the massive success the game is already having.
Anthony Palomba, a researcher and professor at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, estimates that the stock gains in the first hour alone after the preorders went live suggest an increase of about $1 billion in revenue.
“Take-Two shares rose almost 3% in early trading when pre-orders opened, and some analysts modeled as much as $1 billion in revenue in the first hour alone,” Palomba wrote.
For sure. I'm not going to be disappointed, but curious. However, what I mentioned about hopefully we'll see a construction project finished is something I would expect, if such a project(s) exist.I think it just means the AI will behave more realistically, as in you can see them doing more mundane/normal things in the world like watering their grass, getting on the bus, walking out of stores, things that give the world more "life". I'm not putting a whole lot of expectancy into being able to just follow any random AI from a business to a store to their house, as I feel you'd soon see they're just operating randomly on how they're coded to. I feel this sort of thing is right up there with folks still believing we'll get 70+ interiors and what not. I have a lot of hype for the game & Rockstar can deliver some crazy, detailed interactions, but there's still some things I'm tempering my expectations on.
Edit* Since it was brought up in my last post, there are more stories today about the pre-order numbers. This one unfortunately, is not from Rockstar, but multiple outlets picked up on it as it used the company's stock increase as a basis with an actual source making the claim.
The screenshots have revealed a tower under construction. My theory on something like that, since the pre-orders confirmed chapters, is that certain buildings will change over chapters. I don't recall if something similar happened during RDR2, but that's just my belief on it b/c Rockstar has to be more than aware that The Mile High Club being indefinitely under construction is now a gag in the Online community. For sure.
