Okay, so I've had the Australian edited version for two days now (I think all they took out is picking up the ho's) and am about 15% or so in there, so here are my initial impressions.

Graphics - mmm... is it actually an improvement over GTA3? The colours make it kind of hard to judge, but I'm firmly of the opinion that with the 'streaking' effect on it looks worse than GTA3, but with it off looks about the same. Draw distances are certainly better. I see they've polished up some of the fonts used, and the packages as the little carved statues is a nice touch.

Motorbikes - these are fantastic, their inclusion was inspired, no question.

Missions - these are much better. I like the multiple offender feature of the vigilante mission - I was quite shocked to see four bikini clad girls jump out of a car I'd just rammed (heh... fixed their curvey butts right up, heh heh heh...). The longer missions are great (thinking of the assault rifle from the helicopter and then the raid on the mansion, and the guardian angel mission) and much more involved, big improvement. It's even cool tooling around delivering pizzas.

Sound - just astonishing. So much music, and the voice acting is fantastic. I was a bit apprehensive to hear Tommy would have a voice, but the choice of Ray Liotta, and the script for him, are inspired - 'ah, you look like you need the walk anyway', brilliant stuff.

What else do I like? Mmm...
- some of the new locations are great. The golf course is pretty cool, and it's nice to be able to get into some of the locations. They're much more detailed now - the shopping malls are fantastic, and the laneways between the main thoroughfares give a lot more depth to the city
- the police seem to be harder to deal with. It seems to be easier to get to two stars, and the police are a lot more problematic at that level.
- changing outfits is brilliant - I seem to spend a lot of time running around in plaid pants
- holding up stores is cool.
- the new weapons are good, especially the chain saw and golf club
- it's fantastic that you can buy property and businesses, it does give a feeling of 'moving along in the world'
- I love that the cars are the earlier versions of the GTA3 cars - really gives a feel of being part of a world
- Love the layout of the city. Actually, it really reminds me of the Gold Coast, in Queensland, Australia.

So, a game that in my initial ten-twenty minutes I was quite apprehensive about (I was VERY concerned when I initially started playing) I'm starting to really get into. I'm surprised at just how different it is to GTA3.

So - do I love it. Oooh yes - there goes my Christmas.

Will I stop playing GTA3 now? Goodness me no - GTA3 has a 'casual violence' style that I love, a real element of street thuggery, whereas Vice City doesn't seem to have that element in it, as yet anway.

Graphics have gone through a big improvement, vat_man. See-through water, cars that shine and haver better looking surfaces, much nicer faces (for example, the large eyes make it easy as hell to see expression), and the fact that you do hit palm tress and poles when in a helicopter and water splashes around when you are above a body of water. And speaking of which, wait until you see The Hunter... ;)

The only thing i find frustrating is the "duck hands". No fingers this game, either. :(

I disagree (obviously) - I ran them back to back last night to check. I see the water is clearer, okay, nice feature, but that's a fairly small element of the game - I think GTA3 moves more smoothly, too, and is a bit less jaggy.

Tommy is a bit oddly constructed, too, although it might be his clothing.

No fingers is a bit odd, especially in the cut scenes.

Yeah, kinda dissapointing the water is like a waving blanket rather than actual waves. But hey, it's a console game.

Oh, and i have realized that if you turn off the "trails" in the display menu, it might make the graphics less blurry.

Man, the sun glare is really annoying sometimes...

Ahh - trails. That's what I was referring to with 'streaks' - couldn't remember the name. It's odd that GTA3 is better with streaks, and Vice City better without.

It's not enough to hinder the game - I guess something had to go with the better distances.

I love the fact that you can snipe people in their cars that is a brilliant contribution to the game..:)and sniping the pilots of the police choppers is great ..
I rarley use the rocket launcher now when dealing with the flying pigs sniping them is so much better

Also popping tyres is fun too

And there is also a much more diverse range of vehicles to play with :D

Theres not much i can say about what i don't like about the game it's just truly amazing

I know there is minor glitches , some things that bug people but it is truely a great game by console standards:)

Don't be pissed off vat man, but I think they also edited the strip club for the Australian version.:( *lucky me has unedited US version :D *

Plenty, but as many as I've chainsawed!

I love that Tommy uses swings the golf club properly when hitting people on the ground.

I don't know what other edits have been made - I have someone in NZ organising an unedited copy - it's sold out over there at the moment!

good to see you have it. i still have to wait unfortunately.

Is that the copy coming from NZ? I'm told new supplies over there are three weeks away.

Apparently i am going to get myn from my mum's boss's family in New Zealand. They will buy and fly it over here.

From the start, I knew what Vice City would be like graphically. I wasn't expecting much in graphics and neither should you be.

Think about it, rendering a whole city, that has to be difficult right? Not even an Xbox can without some problems.

So focus on the gameplay and only worry about the graphics when the next-generation of consoles arrive.

Not the best graphics but competent.

Oh, and by the way, GTA3 and VC are made in RenderWare by Criterion, which also powers Burnout 2, Pro Evo Soccer, and AirBlade.

Oh I thought they dropped the renderware this time. because it doesnt display the renderware logo at startup like GTA3. Same with Pro evo soccer 2 (which totally reeks of awesomeness).

Oh, true enough - but it was a bit of surprise.

No doubting the gameplay, though - it's a peach.

Race Idiot: Heh, I thought you'd be able to tell. Pro Evo 2 uses it as well.

Many games have used it.

Burnout 1 & 2
Pro Evo 1 & 2
GTA3 & VC
AirBlade
Star Wars: Super Bombad Racing (remember that one?)

I'll tell you this much - Burnout was the crappiest "Adventure Racing" game i've ever had the displeasure of wasting $6 to rent.

I've also seen that mouths are much more...active. All in all, they did a great job with faces. They are much more expessionate now; before they were horrible and wouldn't even put eyes, just dark shadows under the brow.

I HAVE THE DAMN GAME NOW!!! YIPPEEE!

****SPOILERS****

I have done Pizza Missions and have 150 health now :smilewink I am up to Diaz's second mission....barely done any taxi/ambulance/cop missions though. Love the chainsaw :fdevil2:

Sorry bout that:

Ok, i'm getting the uncut version at the end of January, so i will have both then. The only thing "cut" are the hookers. All other things are normal :) Where are all the other Aussies up to?

The sequel is a lot better. Trust me on that.

Hated the original, loved the sequel, which is now happily sitting in my parents room wrapped and ready for Christmas in one week.

DODGE the VIPER: Spending your money on both versions is a bit of a waste. Sell the cut version.

Yeah? I love that game - I get a real rush flying the wrong way down the freeway in Burnout that I get from very few other games. To each their own, I guess - it is very hard to get started in it though, Burnout 2 is definitely more accessible.

I tell you, I'm getting more and more impressed with Vice City as I go along - the west Island is huge, and has an incredibly different feel to the east Island. I think it's the little details - the peds actually interact with each other, queues at bus stops, chasing people into the sea with your car, 'jacking a car and still having the passenger in there screaming as you drive, other cars having their own accidents (I saw a car knock over a ped, and the driver got out and rang an ambulance!), the detail in the buildings (the big shopping mall on the north part of the east island, for example, where I accidentally shot the music store clerk when I was robbing it).

Oh, and by the way - I'm now cruising around in a hearse (complete with coffin) thanks the funeral mission. Very me.
