GTMSA Presents
SuperGT Season 7

Information & Signup

Welcome to season 7 of the SuperGT Championship. With the imminent arrival of GT5 this may end up as the last SuperGT but i'm sure it will be at least as exciting as all the others. The rules have been slighlty adjusted and also this season see's a change in track choices with all events taking place in the far east.

So come one, come all and signup for the longest running series in GTP!

General Information and Regulations

7 Rounds
1 week for sprint race
1 week for main race

Week starts on Monday, with times to be sent via PM by 11.59pm GMT on Sunday

As with last year there will be NO HP penalty for joining the series part way through the season.

All rules, regulations, car specifications, and races are controlled by SuperGT sanctioning body, GTMSA. Any and all questions should be directed to GTMSA officials (namely me ABud or oldmodelt) and officials will do their best to answer in a timely and accurate manor.

All drivers must run at the specified weights and horsepower settings provided by GTMSA for each round. Horsepower and/or weight settings are adjusted for competitive reasons each round based on finishing positions from previous rounds.

I would like to take this oppertunity to thank oldmodelt for his help with balancing all the cars, and also to East for his suggestions which I have tried to take on board for the season 👍

  • Standard Online Racing Rules Apply.
  • No Cheating, hybrids, etc. You must run the car specifications I give you
  • Try keeping at least 2 wheels on course. Long races = small mishaps, but absolutely NO shortcuts
  • No wall-riding as well. Combined with penalties, this will slow you down considerably, so don't do it.
  • All decisions by GTMSA officials are final

Sprint Race

  • 5 lap Single Race
  • Weight penalty in effect
  • RM tires only
  • No tire wear
  • AI @ your choice from -10% to +10%
  • AI tires always set to RS
  • Forced Pit Entry penalty system
  • ASM is prohibited TCS is optional
  • Points: 6pts - 5pts - 4pts - 3pts - 2pts - 1pt
  • 20 second penalty added to race time if you dont submit a time
  • Top 3 take a 1% weight penalty to the race

Race

  • Race's will be ~62 miles (100km) in length
  • Weight penalties in place
  • RS, RM, RH tires or any combination thereof
  • Strong Tire Wear
  • AI at +10
  • Ai tires RS
  • Forced Pit Entry penalty system
  • ASM is prohibited TCS is optional
  • Points for race: 15-12-10-7-5-3-2-1
  • 2 Points for fastest lap
  • 2 points for finishing within 103% of race winning time
  • 1 point for finishing outside 103% of race winning time

Weight Penalty System

Weight penalties will be applied in RACES AND SPRINT RACES. The following penalties will be allocated follwing the results of the race and apply only for the next round:

1st +5%
2nd +3%
3rd +1%
4th - 6th 0%
7th & 8th -1%
9th & 10th -2%
Lower -3%

After the sprint race, the top 3 racers will also recieve a further 1% weight penalty that carries through to the race of that round ONLY.

Please note that if you dont run the race your BHP and kg values for the next round will remain the same as before ie. you WONT get a decrease in weight owing to not racing.

Championship Deciders

If one or more cars are tied for points in the championship the decider will be as follows:

  • Number of race wins
  • Number of pole positions (sprint race wins)
  • Number of second places
  • Number of third places etc.

Welcome to the series, that was a quick reply - maybe some kind of record

I swapped your numbers around - I guess that was a mistake!

I'll sign up for this for sure, but i'll have to test out the cars to see if anything's changed this year...

Why not?

No debate was necessary there. I love the Garaiya, and it even seems to have an advantage in its power and weight setup.

ABud, who was the main tester for the Takata NSX - you, or oldmodelt? Its handling is much better in the NTSC (American) version than in PAL (Europe and Australia), so I think the settings would make it either disadvantaged in PAL or too fast in NTSC. It might be a chore to equalize the car between the two, but I think it merits consideration.

We both ran all the cars around different tracks so hopefully it will be in line with the other cars. I actually had no idea it was a different car (effectivley) between the versions. I'll go do some research, it may need to be pulled (sorry)!

The difference is very apparent in both license test S-8 (at Tokyo) and Mission 26 (at Suzuka). PAL drivers complain of the car spinning out very easily in both tests, and tend to have much more difficulty setting a fast time, whether it be gold (in the former case), first place (in the latter case), or a worldwide record-contending time in either. It's too bad, because I really like the car (at least in my part of the world!). If you do have to remove it from consideration, I would use:

ABud -
If there is still space on pit lane and a garage near the vending machines, I would like to join the SuperGT Series.

I hope its ok if I only run in the GT300 class, as I expect time constraints would preclude me from running in both Series.

Respectfully,

The subject of ABud's PM to me was whether, when I took both cars to the same track, they would set similar times. And indeed, they did. I used both Suzuka and Hong Kong, and they came within a couple tenths of each other at each track. I would have tested them at a bumpy track, too, but there are none in ABud's track lineup. Anyway, if ABud finds them to have similar potential, as well, then I was clearly wrong about NTSC users having an advantage with that car. I suppose it's possible that in S-8 and Mission 26, the programmers decided to use a small amount of ASM as a driving aid in PAL, destabilizing the car; you wouldn't be able to tell for certain because TCS is turned on in both versions, since you can't distinguish between when TCS activates and when ASM does just by looking at the blinking blue indicator.

Now I can't decide between the Takata NSX, the Mobil 1 NSX, and the Pennzoil GT-R. They are definitely each faster on certain types of tracks, which I'm sure was the aim of ABud and oldmodelt when they were settling on the settings for each car. I do want to choose a car nobody else will use, so I'm not even considering the Pitwork Z or the RX-7 LM because they've historically been the fastest and most popular options. Now that oscarhardwick has selected the Xanavi Nismo GT-R, I don't want to use that, either, although I suspect it may not have been as fast as my three possible entries. A couple of the cars I tried were much slower than the others, and kind of annoying to drive, anyway.

I think that I'll change my entry, given that it will be easier to find consistency in this car. I may change it again as I test further, but for now:

Always need someone to bring up the rear!

Due to such a high level of interest already in this series i've brought the pre-season race forward a week to the 12th of October 👍

Just noticed this car was in the roster. I'd take it over the Impreza, plus no one else took it yet. :)

O.K...Even after nearly a full day of testing, i can't really decide which car i should stick with in GT500, but i still want to sign up. So, i'll do this:

XD Yeah, that's quite a bit of testing...Oh, and i can enter as many cars as i want for the pre-season test as long as i put "T" in front of the number, right?

Yep, you can use the "T" car again, but your final decision needs to be made before round 1 of the season starts.

I've realised that this isn't in the blurb on page 1 so will add it.

Ignore first signup did some research.💡

I'll post a summary of the results of my testing.

Although I still won't use them, my testing revealed the RX-7 LM and Pitwork Z as still being too fast. :indiff: I may have simply gotten better laps with them than I did with the NSXes or the GT-R, but they were significantly faster than any of those. In contrast, the Supras were really slow, and definitely not competitive with the rest of the cars. But again, maybe I just didn't spend enough time on them and got a poor result because of that. The GT-R is definitely being solidified as my choice, though, because it will probably be better in a long race than either NSX would be. The Takata NSX is definitely starting to look worse the longer I test it.

In GT300, the MR-S and the Garaiya are very close; I thought that the necessity of short-shifting the MR-S might have escaped the testers, making it too fast. I think that consistency will come more easily in the Garaiya, though, and it's nicer to drive, so I'll stick to it. The S2000 just didn't seem on par with either one, and the RX-7 was closer, but still significantly off. While the Subaru and the Celica had nice handling, they seemed not to do very well at high speeds compared to the MR-S and Garaiya.
