Basically, a mod (not mentioning names) has told us, a group of regular chat-goers to leave the default room and make our own. Now, we've been talking since... well, forever in this default room and only now we have been told to 'clear off into our own room'. Why now?
We've been told not to talk off-topic in 'Racing Lobby' which is fair enough, but without a Premium member in the Chatroom there is no way to create new rooms, therefore no way to make our own room to chat in.
There is a tendency that one of the regular Premium members makes a room for talking about WRS, leaving us to talk in the Racing Lobby about what we want to talk about, so it was odd how the room wasn't made and we were told to go away.
I then said how I'd just tried to make my own room to talk in, and was told that we'd have to find 'some other way of chatting'. Basically, the 'WRS team' have muscled in trying to take over the chat room, and we'd like this to stop and have a solution/agreement put in place.

The solution?
Create a second default room called 'Off Topic' OR make multiple rooms about general talking points.

I've suggested the default room to the mod in question (you may know who you are by now...) and got no reply. Could something be done about this please to avoid further confusion?

Thanks,
Trav.

.

Or, if the WRS team want their own subchat room, why not make a second default room called "WRS" or something?

Question edit:
Also, there's an Unused-since-made (i think) room called "OMRS". What it there for if unused? (i think)

Online Monthly Racing Series

It's a monthly series which is why it isn't used much(it's also password protected which is why it looks like there is never anyone in there).

Also, there is an Off-Topic room, it's the one at the top of the list(not sure if that's what you are getting at).

Actually, the guys in the WRS room have been chatting in there for a long time before the now 'regular' bunch came along as many of the guys from GT5 prologue days will attest. The point is, its a racing chat lobby and was used by us to arrange races and discuss WRS and other OLR stuff. We started making the WRS room because of the mountains of absolute spam which came with the introduction of yourself and other new members when GT5 came out (some have whom have since been banned for their conduct in there). Why should we have to make an extra room just to avoid spam, which is against the AUP, which is in place in the chatroom when we want to use the room for it actual purpose. There are many other chat programmes for general off topicness and spam, the GTP one is for GT related and racing chat. Want to make your own room, simple, buy premium as this is what you are expecting all the WRS and OLR members to do just to have a sensible adult conversation. Sorry if this sounds harsh but the conduct, attitude and general level of conversation in that room is extremely frustrating and irritating for those of us who've been chatting there like forever and have seen others muscle in and take over it

+100

If you had seen what rubbish was spoken in the chat room before then you would know why this is happening. As stated its for racing, the same people in the chat room, I have on MSN for the offtopic chatting.

If you don't what them on MSN, AIM, Yahoo, then buy premium so you can make your own rooms.

And  at "WRS team muscling in and taking over"

Or, if the WRS team want their own subchat room, why not make a second default room called "WRS" or something?

And since you in the chat room 24/7 have you never seen a room named WRS??

IF 'the mod in question' hadn't been so 'pushy' earlier then maybe this thread wouldn't have been made.
Let me clear this up; this is MOSTLY my opinion, so don't take it out on the rest of the 'regular' chat-goers.

However, not everyone wants to talk about racing and WRS and OMRS all the time, and not everyone wants to makes an AIM or MSN account just to talk to other GTP-ers, which is mainly the reason this thread was created.
All that has to be done is make some kind of room for discussion of things other than Racing, especially if mods are going to get pissy about 'us' talking about other things.

Then why say you've been in there forever and others are muscling in when the people you are talking about have been using the function long before you were a member. Jordan has provided a racing chatroom for people to chat about racing and GT. He has no obligation to provide a general chat function as the rules are clearly set out for its use, and there are other alternatives you can use. Like has been said, you can always create your own room if you upgrade to premium.

Please read this and you will understand why the chat room is for racing only.

I'm not saying that's what you guys carry on like that. But for every action, there is a reaction. And the actions of that user is why the chat room has become a bit more "clamped down" on what goes on in there.

Then why say you've been in there forever

Well if you look in my point of view it kind of is forever because I was on there since I'd been here... 💡
I don't mean to be sarky but it's true.

Good point, but honestly we aren't really like that. Well, there was one case but he was banned also...
Still, you have to give a bit of leeway; it's a two-way thing, give and take. Say Jordan tries the proposed idea out and we're 'good', the Off Topic room stays. If it gets abused, it goes.

I agree with crazytortise and Dgiant2000. It is a GT site indeed and the chat should be used for talking about racing and the GT games in general. And actually before this I didn't really even think about the earlier members having a hard time with the newer chatters, but I see why you have a valid point.

However I feel there should still be an Off topic chatroom, because it would solve all of this and prevent any future new members doing the same mistake. GTPlanet is far more than strictly a GT site. I myself enjoy the other parts of the forum far more than the GT parts and many people don't even use the GT part.
So I'd like to apologise if I ever did anything you would consider spam and hope we can come to an agreement about this, as there are only about 2 premium off topic members online at the very most and this would prove a problem not only for those that wish to chat off topic, but it wouldn't solve your problem either as those members could start spamming in the racing lobby.

7 months is not what you can call "forever"

So since I been a member here from 2009 and in the chat room since I joined, then I must be here for light years.

It's simple. upgrade to premium or play by the rules set in he AUP about the chat room or have off topic chatting on other instant messaging applications.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I remember reading Jordan does not have control on creating default rooms in the chat? I may be mistaken but maybe he could enlighten us on that.

Yeah, you obviously didn't understand what I meant.
I joined in September, I posted a lot and therefore joined the chatroom soon afterwards. That would mean that since I've been here I've been using the chatroom. Therefore, technically I've been using it forever.

No, just a bunch of movie names. :yuck:

But thanks for taking the time to pay attention to my life schedule.

Oh, no wonder it always looked empty to me  , thanks for clearing that up. 👍

You’re now taking to the member that started the WRS chat room and password, with the approval of admin, as admin will tell you I always ask first as its polite to do so.

I also put a link to the WRS chat room in the member’s forum, again not before asking the admin member that you are referring to, and that was also agreed by the admin team.

I was also in the room but set as away when you were told not once but a number of times, along with other members about the usage of the live chat room. I don’t have to go into detail about what the admin member spoke to you and the other members in question about, as that is not my place.

But this is also in public in this thread, so for the record lets just get one thing straight, what admin said to you was spot on. If you wish to get something done about the off topic chat, I suggest you contact admin and discuss the matter fearer.

Phillip.

Yes, I know it's you who starts the 'WRS' room, but as I said earlier no names were being mentioned in case of offence of some sort.
Say what you like, but I stand my ground with my opinion. Yes, the chat room was purpose-built for racing talk, and I overlooked that earlier. However, off-topic talk doesn't just stretch to the regulars in the chatroom. Often there will be 2-5 people in a day that only come to ask a question, often not about racing/GT5/WRS or what have you.
Whatever, if this is a racing chat room only, fine. Make it clearer then you wouldn't have people stumbling in wanting to talk about other things.

May I also add that 'other mods' were OK with 'Off-Topic talk' in the Racing Lobby.

So you created this thread because you are unhappy that this mod in particular asked you to stop whatever it was you were doing, just because "other mods" are ok with your "off topic" talk. It's called "racing chat" for a reason. I don't see whats so difficult to understand about "racing chat"

Not quite, but you're getting there. 👍
We (this is, the people who don't talk about racing 24 freaking 7) thought there should be an Off-Topic default room AS WELL AS the Racing Lobby, which is why I made this thread. And your quote of what I said was because another member (no names) mentioned something about the different mods' preference to bring up the issue of 'off-topic talk' in the Racing Lobby, mostly because for a while we hadn't been told we were not allowed to talk non-racing there.

Yeah, you obviously didn't understand what I meant.

Using it 'forever' would imply from the start of the chatrooms creation, not from when you decided to use it.

I would also point out that you are incorrectly turning the issue around to suit your purpose.

1) The chatroom's purpose is to arrange WRS, not "omg lolz topiks".
2) When you were instructed to stop non-WRS topics in a WRS chatroom, that was completely justified.
3) The rules are that only Premo's can create new rooms. Thats a perk of being Premo.

This does not mean that when the WRS chatroom is not being used for WRS chat it automatically becomes a free-for-all. The fact that not everybody wants to chat about WRS and those same people do not want to create MSN accounts is not our problem. However you are within your right to ask if there can be a WRS AND an 'off topic' area. That is for the higher powers to decide.

My own personal view as a GTP user is that if you want a chatroom, go find one on MSN/ yahoo etc.

I would also caution about throwing in offhand statements about 'other mods' in order to try and add weight to your argument. I am skeptical that is the case and even if it were, I doubt they were 'ok' with the 'gen chat' use you propose at the moment.

1) The chatroom's purpose is to arrange WRS, not "omg lolz topiks".
And you visit the chatroom often? I thought so.
We don't (always) talk about 'omg lolz topiks' and immature crap, we often talk about GT5 and arrange races; you're basically saying we're hooligans who talk about crap that doesn't matter.
Also, if this was a WRS-only Chatroom why is there often multiple rooms seperating us from the WRS people? We want to talk, and so do they, and it works fine.

Anyway, I don't actually care since I'm still waiting for an answer on whether or not the default Off Topic room will be added or not.

This is why GTplanet need it's own irc channel, the chatbox is powered by java, which is crap, honestly. Having an IRC channel would allow greater flexibility amongst users and allow non-premium members to create rooms and, heck we can even share files around. Since GTplanet is a non-profit site... surely this make sense.

If there was a mIRC channel then it wouldn't be officially supported, since the current chat is only accesible by GTP members, and via IRC there is no way to enforce that. In that case Jordan is not forced to provide this, (not that he is forced to provide anything in the first place). If it's indeed unofficial Jordan might not approve and you could not use the name "GTPlanet" for it.

This is exactly it; we're being told to buy into the site to fully enjoy its features. It's all about money; I bet the reason we don't have IRC is because it would lower the amount of people buying Premium, therefore lowering the money brought in.
That being said, GTPlanet itself requires money to run.

Why is any of that a problem? You can still have moderators, and have a private irc channel. I've only merely made a suggestion, don't you dare twist my word to say that I've forced someone to do it.

Calm down, I'm not twisting anything of yours...

We're just discussing things at a discussion forum for GT5.

So, we're discussing off-topic?
Last I checked, GTPlanet wasn't just for GT5 discussion. Looks like I've gotten the wrong forum.

Right... what?

Did you try logging into the mIRC channel I linked to? Check if it's still active?

If it is, you could maybe move your regular chats there. It's unofficial so the AUP doesn't apply there, you could post whatever thing you want there not worrying about the WRS guys "muscling in" and telling you to log off the chat.

eh... don't worry, I was just messing around.
And I'm trying the IRC server now.

EDIT: Nope, no-one in there.

Nice edit there, your original post was much better.

I've seen the tripe spouted in this chatroom at times so unless you are going to take personal responsibility for all topics discussed in there at all time by all members, I suggest you have a rethink.

Chatroom Fail. If its on the GTP domain, AUP applies. Chatrooms included.

Half of the time the chatroom isn't even being used because no-one actually talks in there. They just pitch their tent and camp. There is no-one in the Racing Lobby (speaking at least) as of now, and there hasn't been for at least an hour. Luckily a kind Premium member made an Off-Topic room for us to talk in otherwise the chatroom would be going to waste since we're "not allowed to talk about non-racing in the Racing Lobby".
