I'd say it's about 20-25 years ago that it started being common. We have to remember that 15 years ago was only 1999.

Yeah, but that was just in a handful of mostly competition cars. I think the point he was making was with large-scale production cars. Naturally aspirated ones at that.

Just the name alone bumps it to cool despite the kit car appearance.
This was my thinking too. In the looks department it's a very poor Alpine replacement. Overall though, minus the Alpine fact, it's a neat little car and is probably boat loads of fun in the twisty's.
