If a car fan asks you it's a different story but for a non-car fan "old Escort" is all they will need, and want, and you avoid having to go through explaining that this is the Mexico trim and this is why it's called the Mexico trim and blah, blah, blah.

Ordinarily I'd agree, but the explanation is hardly that bad for one of these. "It won a big rally in Mexico" would suit most people. You'd arguably have to spend longer explaining a Mini Cooper to someone. "Why's it called a Cooper?". "It was developed by a guy called John Cooper". "What, they named it after some engineer or something? Seems a bit odd"... etc etc.
