Was totally over shadowed by the Countach's outrageousness in it's day. But has aged really well and now perfectly makes the style-transition between the front engined Daytona and mid engined Testarossa. Cool.

My *first* poster car along with the Countach, which it was often matched against but was probably quicker and almost certainly a more able car in general. I love the styling of these, perfect mix of graceful lines and muscle. Ferrari's first full production mid-engined supercar gets a Sub Zero from me.

Compared to the Countach, the styling on this car is quite understated. And, to be honest, I like the styling better on the BB than on the Countach.

Sub-Zero.

From a time when Ferrari's were still pretty and cool. Cool all the way for me.

It doesn't quite have the same legendary status of the Countach, but it is still a great car. It was another example of a Ferrari that would shape the future of the company (for being a mid-engined car, something that Enzo Ferrari was not very confortable with), and it would also eventually lead to an even bigger legend, the Testarossa.

A great 1980's wedge design, pop-up headlamps and a boxer V12 keep this car far away from bad ratings, it is very cool.

Howling 12 pot in the rear. Greatness.
Styling is a bit off. Can't quite put my finger on it.

Cool.

SZ. Looks epic, sounds epic, is a retro Ferrari. Also, the fact it was massively overshadowed by the Countach helps make it even cooler - it's the unknown, more exclusive car.

Classy. Looks epic. Was the underdog to the Countach's powerhouse - and then there's the 512BB LM, which was absolutely mental, perhaps even beating in bonkerness Zuffenhausen's finest - the Porsche 935.

Besides, it's a Ferrari.

It goes without saying that for me, it's a sub-zero.

Wow so it's like arguing about a V versus VR engine as if it makes a massive difference when discussing the coolness of a car. It does, and it's always detrimental. Car info vs car info is never a good sign.

There's no point making a 12 cylinder with a boxer crankshaft because a V12 is already balanced. This engine is literally a 180-degree V12. :)
I can think of one good reason: the sound. Flat 12s, at least the roadgoing Ferrari efforts, sound like a cross between a flat 6 and a V12.

For sound it has to be one of the best engine layouts out there. The Testarossa sounds even better (skip to 3:21 for the best bit)

As for the coolness of the 512, it's cool but not SZ for me. It never did it for me stylistically. It's pretty but a bit bland in person, and it's surprisingly big and brutish. The Testarossa is much more elegant, in my eye.
