The RS versions look like an absolute riot to hoon around on a rally stage. I've seen plenty Mk2s in rally action and those twin-cams sound epic.

Base versions are pretty bleugh.

Cool.

Despite most Escorts of the time being boring four-door variants with middling motors, this was the blue-collar hero of its heyday.

Solid cool.

Always wanted one of those estates... pretty neat little cars.

My 2nd car (back in 1986) was a yellow mk2 Mexico on Rostyles. It was a fabulous car to drive... light, quick enough at the time, brilliant handling (as sideways as you like), brilliant steering, and still the best gear change of any car I've ever driven.

The mk2 hss a fabulous motorsport history, both in racing and rallying, and is still competitive today.

A proper legend.

Solid cool. The RS, Mexico etc models are SZ but the 1.1 L models drag it down a bit.

They're starting to get a bit of a chavvy whiff about them too but for now the majority escape that.

As others have said, the RS models are cool, but the regular ones are not. It's much less pretty, and stylish, than the MkI too.

Watching the same people vote this sub zero when they are the same ones who vote the GT40 seriously uncool because Ford.

# priceless

Chalk =/= Cheese

Very few people said the GT40 was uncool because it was a Ford. Is it not possible to think that one car is uncool but another car from the same manufacturer is cool?

Original 1600 Sport/Harrier and Mexico variants are cool. Original RS variants are most certainly sub zero. This particular RS2000 is fridge-worthy. Everything else...

Just cool on balance, then.

As others have said, the RS models are cool, but the regular ones are not.

Have to wonder how many of those regular examples are left which haven't had a Cosworth + T9 5-speed conversion or rally overhaul. Can't really blame people for trying to emulate or surpass RS performance by gutting a drab GL worth a few grand, what with genuine RS models starting to go for silly money nowadays (though reasonable compared to what Mk1 RS/Mexicos are going for), but I'd still like see some of those uncool examples survive relatively unmolested.

Boring looking and very slow.

Uncool.

I find this ironic, considering what you claimed about the "ultra performance" Chrysler turbo cars of the late 80s early 90s.

Considering that these cars also had performance cars that actually performed on various track stages, and right out of the box too. Not something that needed to have much done to it other than safety measures and some tuning, but mainly ready to go. The RS and Mexico especially.

I'd even say that if it weren't for cars like this, other American manufactures like Chrysler might not have built the "ultra performance" cars you tout.

Let's not bring that argument into this theard.

As a stock version no where near as cool as the Mk1, but the performance models are equally SZ. Still a small, cool hoonmobile. Cool

Yes we can! But why claim the whole brand is uncool then? The same logic is being displayed in another cool wall thread right now!

Well good to know you aren't consistent.

This is GTP, dammit! The only thing consistent are the inconsistencies!
