Call me strange, but I like little go-kart economy cars from the 80s. I couldn't care less about what the FnF crowd does to them, or about any other stereotypes or anything like that. This particular one is light, looks alright, and the gas mileage of those little I4s doesn't hurt either. It won't win any drag races, but cars like this can be surprisingly fun if you don't go into the experience with your mind already made up.

It's a mild cool.
I agree they are fun as heck but that doesn't make it cool.

@Justin hit the nail on the head, I don't think I've ever seen a Civic of this vintage that wasn't completely falling apart or being used to shuttle pizzas around by some acne ridden teen. I'm sure they weren't bad cars for their time though and they probably make decent enough weekend racers.

I like the older Civics and I'm sure these were nice cars when they were new. Cool.

Average grocery getter. Not a cool car by any means, but not so terrible that it's uncool. Meh.

Seriously uncool. Honda civics to me are VERY overrated.
You've never DD'd one. They're quite a nice balance of fun and actual practicality. I'd love to get something like a Miata, or an FR-S, or something like that as my daily driver, but the practical drawbacks outweigh the fun.

I don't even WANT to drive one. Despite all that they might be.

Then you can't possibly say that they are either bad cars or overrated.

Why not? It looks like crap. Bad enough for me not to want to pursue anything else related to it. And why can't I say they are overrated?

Looks is subjective, I'll give you that though I don't agree. Fine if you don't like it or don't find it interesting, but stating that it's overrated or a bad car just because you don't like it is ridiculous.

Personally, I find drag racing, lifted trucks, overpowered cars with ancient chassis pointless and just plain don't like it. Not dissing any of those in every thread though.

Even still. Anything can be a legitimately good car if you make one.
Talk about strawmans here. How many people go straight to motor/drivetrain swaps, chassis reinforcements upon purchasing a car? A realiable off-the-mill car with decent fuel economy, good handling, practicality and straight forward quality is always better than a car, that's, well, an exact opposite.

So your reasoning:

I don't even WANT to drive [a Honda Civic]. Despite all that they might be.
Then you can't possibly say that [Honda Civics] are either bad cars or overrated.
Why not? [Honda Civics] looks like crap. Bad enough for me not to want to pursue anything else related to it. And why can't I say they are overrated?

Right?

So what if I changed that exact same exchange became:

Person A
I don't even WANT to drive [a Ford Mustang]. Despite all that they might be.
Person B
Then you can't possibly say that [Ford Mustangs] are either bad cars or overrated.
Person A
Why not? [Ford Mustangs] looks like crap. Bad enough for me not to want to pursue anything else related to it. And why can't I say they are overrated?

Does that reasoning still seem fair?

To me no, but I certainly can see how to someone else it may not be the case. Its reason enough for me on this particular car but that doesn't mean its the same for everyone. I get it.
