The design was slightly larger and squarer than previous Skylines. It was available as a Sedan, Hardtop sedan, Coupe and station wagon. Affectionately known as the "Seventhsu" or simply "7th Sukairain" by owners, due to it being the 7th-generation Skyline."

This had the best promo video ever. And then some (friggin' chin spoiler!):

Tempted to say Cool for the coupe alone. The rest are marginally less mundane than the equivalent V20 Camry, though both models have retained a certain amount of 80s charm which seems to have strengthened as of late.

...screw it. Cool.

Waits for the 'it's got Skyline in its name, it must be super cool' crowd to show up

Boring, boring, boring 80's rubbish.

SU

It's sad that there was no GT-R for this generation, but the R31 is equally as neat looking and iconic just like all Skylines.

Cool.

I know there were other Skylines and other Rxx before this but as mentioned, this is deliciously 1980s and the GTS-R is like the forgotten pilot of a popular TV show, but just as good as the rest of the series.

Cool

Wow. Unsurprisingly 80s. The rims kill it for me as well. But, its historicness saves it from Uncool, so Meh.

I still don't get why GTPlanet thinks wagons are cool. When I see a wagon, I think an old person is driving the car

To me the only uncool skylines are the G-series, this was cool for the same reason many other places had their cool car culture of the 80s. Japan had this cool 80s compact thing going on and having various cars of the era, this one was the start of what became the beloved shape that led up to the R34 and also the dominant start of Group A racers. Sure the others aren't all that cool but the one at the top of the hill from the R31 grouping was pretty awesome.

Giving it a Sub-Zero because it's the one car the "diehard fanboys" of the R34 don't actually have any clue of. R32 is the first of the generation as far as they seem to know. :P

When I was about 12, I learned to drive manual in a 4 cylinder R31 pintara. My dad gave the man at the dump site our old hot water service in exchange for letting us take it. Throwing that thing around a paddock was one of the highlights of my childhood.

I only ever see four kinds of R31 these days. The immaculate ones driven by grannies to church; the young guy's flogged out daily; the forgotten grocery getter rusting quietly under a tree and the drifter's engine swapped track weapon.

While clearly a versatile vehicle, it's not really a cool one. I'd go so far to say that the only reason anyone even knows what it is, is down to the fame of it's successors. Most people on the street wouldn't look twice and those that do (like me) are probably uncool people (like me).

This all applies to the sedan & wagon that make up 95% of R31s that I see. The coupes are cool and if polled individually that's what I'd vote, but with the entire range under consideration I'm afraid it's an uncool.

Sorry fanboys.

Uncool, because not only did I own one, it was my first car :P

Also these days the R31 is quickly becoming the ominous "bogan-mobile" in a list alongside the likes of VN Commodores, mostly because they are dirt cheap and the Centrelink crowd uses them for pines buses.

But still, who can deny the wonderful 80s styling, including exaggerated stovetops.

Oh and it's also not Seriously Uncool because of the GTS1/2, GTS-R and GTS-X.
