My mother has an '02 GS300 which has been an absolutely fantastic car. She abuses the hell out of that thing and at 210K miles it just keeps on putting along. I really like the GS and IS300 but they simply are not cool cars. I drive a diesel truck and a diesel Jetta, I know a thing or two about uncool cars.

Cool.

When it came out it was a good looking 4 door family car and I remember ours being very quiet and comfortable and a lovely place to sit inside. Now they're getting to be quite a rare sight here. Low cool.

Alan Partridge drives a Rover 800.

Series two was nothing compared to series one. Nothing.

I counter that with this :p

And to go back on topic. Even without the AP connection this car and the subsequent LS has the old man at the golf club feel about it, so seriously uncool.

One of the few Lexus that does look cool. I voted cool, honestly. There should be more better looking Lexus cars like this one but, oh well.

Some people buy a fake Rolex. It's not the smartest thing to do, but on a rational level, I can at least understand it: the savings are massive. This, however, was an incredibly expensive way of buying a fake E36.

Rip-offs are never cool. Neither are copycats. The only thing this car did that could be considered unique was introduce an awful-looking trend that is only just now fading away from automotive design. That doesn't help its cause.

you mean E46, this was sold alongside the E46 era BMW.

As they (the IS and E46) were released pretty much at the same time, no, I meant what I said. Toyota couldn't have benchmarked an unreleased car.

Always quite liked these, and I don't even mind the rear lights - at least they're meant to be on this car.

I also like the styling. Far more interesting and attractive to me than the E46 BMW which the Lexus launched at a similar time to (though the image in post #1 isn't the most flattering I've seen).

However, I can't honestly call it cool. Other than those who actually buy them, it's not interesting enough to warrant attention for any reason. It's just "a car", albeit one I like the look of and one that probably represents better value for money on the UK used market than a thoroughly shagged BMW 3-series or C-class Merc.
