Ah yes, the best of the ponies (this thread becomes brony thunderdome in 3, 2, 1...). However, that's a bit like saying "ah yes, I prefer the Turbo S, the best of the Volkswagen New Beetles." Rather avoid all of them, TYVM.

We already have a Thunderdome, and you're invited. ;)

It's not just uncool because it's a hybrid. It's uncool because it's the hybrid - the gen 1 Insight probably gets better mileage, but the Prius got all the publicity, and ended up becoming the car of choice for obnoxious leftists who want to make a big show of saving the planet. And I can't really think of many associations less cool than that.

Remember the video where the Prius lady accosts a pickup driver and berates them for polluting? That's the kind of person that drives a Prius. And if I'd been the pickup driver in the video, when she accused me of spewing pollution, I might well have said "I know, and it feels soooooo goood", then left with a nice loud burnout.

Not all Prius drivers. The only Prius owner I know races the 25 hours of Thunderhill every year. Ever been on Priuschat? Full of geeks who do mundane things like... oh... reprogram their cars.

And douche-y loud burnouts in other people's faces? That's the kind of action that makes pick-ups uncool.

I meant what I said. If everyone is driving around in ugly 3-cylinder hybrids like this, I'd have a hard time calling it a utopia.

You do know, the only reason we actually have the ability and wherewithal to drive around motor vehicles that can do 100 mph and guzzle gasoline at a stop is because over the decades, millions of people have chose to drive around ugly three- and four-cylinder commuter cars that didn't use much gas?

A future in which everyone is (driving around in) super (cars), is one where nobody is (driving at all). If everyone drives around a large, gas-guzzling, carbureted muscle car that gets just five miles to the gallon, how long do you think gasoline will stay at under $4 a gallon? How long do you think we would still have gasoline?

A future in which 99% of the driving public, who don't give two whits about driving excitement, drives economical three-cylinder cars, hybrids and EVs, leaving most of the remaining gasoline for those of us who don't mind paying a tiny bit extra to go flying down a mountain road in the sports car of our choosing? That's pretty much utopia, to me.

What about Macho Man Randy Savage? He was in Spiderman!

The first rule of professional wrestling? Don't ever admit you like it or watch it. :D  Though yes, Randy is the exception that proves the rule.

I love how a cool wall thread for a car can turn into a Palooza of back and forth ranting between green hybrid loons and gas guzzlers. I rarely view these areas of :gtplanet: due to a number of fools creating an argument out of one's opinion of a subject that seems clear of any possibility of debate.

With an attitude like that, we don't need you commenting here anyway.

That's not my point. The point is, you should want one of those cars, or in this case, should prefer them over KdF-Wagen 2020 Edition.
And there is a line between stating your opinion and preaching it. Just imagine it if you stopped being the angry know-it-all-better-than-everyone teenager and actually realised that people, who have a different opinion than yours, aren't wrong - they just have a different opinion. Especially on such a subjective topic as this one.

I can though. A typical right wing redneck in a falling apart lifted bro truck on lo-pro's getting 2mpg, dissing the government for rising gas prices and his sister having herpes. Rolling up to compact commuter cars in the traffic, revving the engine and doing burnouts thinking he's the most badass lad in the whole everywhere.

See what I did there?

See above.

The guy in the video was at least being respectful in face of a woman being a stuck-up bitch. What you are suggesting is just downright disrespectful to everyone else around the area, and if you were to repeat that action, you'll be known as "that guy".

So... You think the Insight is a cool car, yeah?

If it weren't for Smash Bros. I'd be inclined to take exception to that.

I consider games where you play as an eldritch abomination who runs around eating everybody for no apparent reason manly. Don't you?

Well, that looks a lot like a bazooka, so based on no information whatsoever about the whatever show that is, OK.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica. You should watch it. It has a scene where one of the characters tries to destroy a monster by firing several thousand RPGs at it, some anti-ship missiles, and to top it all off a burning tanker lorry. It's the manliest thing ever. (Well, manliest thing to watch if you're masculine. The vast majority of the Madoka fans I've met in real life have been LGBTQI women, but that's probably mainly reflective of the crowd I hang around.)

I can't stand My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic either (despite the fact it has the genius that is Lauren Faust behind it), but that doesn't stop me from considering its fanbase to be as manly as a fanbase can get. (Seriously, bronies are awesome.)

(T)he Prius got all the publicity, and ended up becoming the car of choice for obnoxious leftists who want to make a big show of saving the planet. And I can't really think of many associations less cool than that.

Have you ever considered that one might choose which car they want to drive based off of factors other than politics? You know, like, economics? You wouldn't see me in a Prius if it weren't for how hideously expensive petrol is, but petrol is hideously expensive, so I just got out of a Prius immediately before typing this. Also, I really struggle to see what is either obnoxious or uncool about being left wing or wanting to "save the planet" as you inaccurately put it. ('Prevent a serious global environmental disaster' would be far better wording.)

Remember the video where the Prius lady accosts a pickup driver and berates them for polluting? That's the kind of person that drives a Prius.

Really? I've never accosted any pickup drivers and berated them for polluting... Should I? In fact, I feel the urge to get in the Prius, go to Richmond Park, and accost one of the park rangers as they get out of their Hilux and berate them for polluting suddenly...

And if I'd been the pickup driver in the video, when she accused me of spewing pollution, I might well have said "I know, and it feels soooooo goood", then left with a nice loud burnout.

That's some masochistic stuff you're into there...

I meant what I said. If everyone is driving around in gorgeous 3-cylinder hybrids like this, I'd have an easy time calling it a utopia.

Fixed.

Conflating anything Shinji has done in the entire twenty year history of the franchise with "manly tears" is about as out there as anything White & Nerdy has said on the subject.

Honestly, I was just looking for a good GIF of a masculine individual crying. But that's the thing though, Shinji is ultimately masculine. He's a very different sort of masculine to the sort of masculinity @White & Nerdy seems to be so infatuated with, but nonetheless he is masculine.

The car has a neat design, especially for its time, but the fact that it is an electric makes it pathetic. But, I certainly won't go down that gloomy trail. I give the Insight an overall rating of Uncool.

I will forever use this image any time this situation arises. This is awesome, and I'll make sure to tag you for giving me the knowledge of such an image. See W&N even the wiser of us in a group can give credit where it's due, something you didn't learn during the process of this thread.
