2003+ Rolls-Royce Phantom nominated by @JASON_ROCKS1998

800px-Rolls-Royce,_BMW_Welt.JPG

Body Style: 4-door saloon
Engine: BMW N73B68 6.8L V12
Power: 454 hp
Torque: 531 ft-lbs
Weight: 2,580 kg
Transmission: ZF 6-speed automatic / 8-speed automatic
Drivetrain: Front-engine, rear wheel drive
Additional Information: The first production Rolls Royce of the BMW era and is currently RR's flagship model. The body is made of aluminium and the entire car is built to each customer's specification at the Rolls Royce plant in Goodwood, West Sussex. Customers are able to choose from 44,000 exterior colours and specify any interior colour. Instead of a tachometer it has a "Power Reserve Dial" showing how much power is not being used. The car automatically brakes to walking pace if one of the rear "Coach Doors" remain open while driving and an electronic lock prevents the doors from opening accidentally. The "Spirit of Ecstasy" has an automatic retraction system that retracts to prevent theft and protect pedestrians. Many special editions have been built. BMW originally wanted to use a 9.0L V16 to make it the "Ultimate Luxury Car" but decided on a 6.0L V12 as it was more economical. A V16 was used in the Phantom Coupe in the film "Johnny English Reborn" at the request of Rowan Atkinson. The car won the 2003 Top Gear Car Of The Year award.

The de facto car for rich people. As opulent as it may be, it simply can't hold a candle to Rollers of old.

Uncool.

I didn't like Rolls Royce that much until I saw the Dawn. Now I adore all of their modern cars. The Phantom is a beautiful car inside and out. If I had the choice to either drive or sit in the back seat, I would jump at the opportunity to drive. The Phantom looks like it glides along the road.

Every time I see one of these I remember it as the subject of European Car's "The Age of the Porno Chic Car" article. SU for that, although if the coupe was nominated then I'd have to up my vote, since I actually really like it and I think it's fairly cool.

I'm sorry, but these things are simply stunning. It's easily one of the most attractive modern cars as far as I'm concerned and it offers true luxury with a fair amount of scoot fer yer poot. That's the good stuff.

The bad? Well, it's beyond prohibitively expensive, that whole kerfuffle between BMW and VAG over rights to the brand versus rights to the name was pure jackassery, and, yeah, they're more than a little too popular with the "thug lyfe" generation whose only interest in it is the fact that it is beyond prohibitively expensive.

I can't justify SZ, even if I look past the bad bit, and factoring in the bad bit keeps me from considering it Cool, so...Meh.

The thing about luxury cars like this is that 13 years later I don't think they look all that special inside for how expensive they are. I'm sure the interior is a fantastic place to be but I'm not blown away looking at pictures of it now with how outrageously nice even the most basic cars have got in the past decade, let alone how nice something like a modern S class is.

It's a luxury car that will be bought by rappers; I remember watching MTV cribs once when I was a kid and seeing a rapper's house with a modded Phantom and it had silly dub rims on it. Yeah, seriously uncool.

This car has aged surprisingly well IMO and I can't help but admire the craftsmanship that goes into these things. Cool

There's no doubt that the Phantom is seriously uncool. Eespite the fact that it is quite luxurious and comes from an ultra- high end brand, it still is overpriced. It isn't very stylish on the outside either, with boxy styling, a strange grille, and it may evn be asymmetrical, but I can't be sure by looking at the pictures. It's basically a car for a person with big money and little taste.

If it were the Coupe version or even the Wraith, I would up my vote to, maybe, just maybe, cool. The Phantom saloon is the definition of Seriously Uncooliness because of their usual drivers. I'd love to own one (mainly the Wraith) but they are sooooo Uncool.

You don't realize what opulent means until you've been in a Rolls.

I mean, you might think you know, having seen the latest Mercedes S-Class or BMW 7-Series (which is basically a Rolls in a more aerodynamic wrapper), but a Rolls is something else in terms of impeccable craftsmanship and build quality. This isn't some wire-hoop ball-gown with a bosom-boosting bustier, this is the real deal.

And the acceleration from that gigantic V12 is so unerringly smooth... I don't doubt older Rolls have a more worldly charm... but this is as close as you can get to a land-going modern yacht. Down to the impeccably-laid wood and pillowy ride (and yet the Rolls handles remarkably well for such a gigantic car).

Unfortunately, despite having had the privelege to drive these things in a manner in which they are not meant to be driven, and having driven the Wraith, which is infinitely cooler, I can't honestly say any of these modern Rolls are cool. Even the best driving boats are still boats, and the level of conspicuous consumption represented by a Rolls, as compared to a Jaguar XJ, which doesn't look anywhere near as sharp, but is nearly as posh... is immense.

Sorry. Uncool.

The benchmark for luxury cars and luxury brands.

Far too ostentatious to ever be cool.

A virtually peerless modern luxury saloon even after more than a decade of production and one of the few vehicles I'd rather jump in the back of. Though while I've never really objected to contemporary RR styling, there's no hiding the fact that this is a properly pompous slab of metal and bull hides.

Uncool.

Yeah. You don't drive a four-door Phantom unless you're being paid to drive the backseat occupant(s).

There are very few places I'd rather sit in than in the back of a Phantom. Which very good thing, as there are very few things I'm less keen on doing than getting out of a Phantom in public.

I appreciate it for what it is. Gave it a cool. I mean, my dad has a Mercedes SL550 and I'm embarrassed to be seen in it because I'm not rich and I don't want anyone thinking I am and treating me different. However, if you have one of these you've got to be loaded, so who cares?
Cool.

Epitome of luxury. Imposing on the road. A brand that everyone recognizes.

But uncool.
