Wikipedia lists it as 2006+. Only the 2L turbo, 3L turbo, 3.2L NA, and 4.4L NA are/were available in the US. Unfortunately, the manual transmission option was likely another thing that didn't make it across the Atlantic - not sure though.

Meh. It's an unoffensive executive Volvo sedan, which is not exactly something I'd go "oooh" "ahhh" to if it passes by. On the same merit, it's an unoffensive execuive Volvo sedan, not neccessarily the most uncool piece of kit you can get. If this were to drive pass, and this is probably along with quite a lot of average Joes roaming the streets, they wouldn't notice it.

We know that an uncorked V8 sounds pretty damn good, nobody would ever think that a Volvo would sound like that. It gets a Cool just for that.

@White & Nerdy Just a suggestion, have the engine specs something like this:

Engine: 97 ci/1,596 cc turbocharged DOHC inline 4 (rated 180 HP & 177 lb-ft)

122 ci/1,999 cc naturally aspirated DOHC? inline 4 (rated 143 HP & 136 lb-ft in 2008-2009 spec or 143 HP & 140 lb-ft in 2009+ spec,
flex-fuel versions of both availalbe)

??? ci/ 2.0 L turbocharged DOHC? inline 4 (rated 240 HP & 258 lb-ft),

154 ci/2,521 cc turbocharged DOHC? inline 5 (rated 197 HP & 221 lb-ft in 2006-2009 spec or 228 HP & 251 lb-ft in 2009+ spec, flex-fuel versions of both available, the former only from 2008-2009),

180 ci/2,952 cc turbocharged DOHC? inline 6 (rated 282 HP & 195 lb-ft),

195 ci/3,192 cc naturally aspirated DOHC? inline 6 (rated 325 HP & 236 lb-ft)

B8444S 269 ci/4,414 cc naturally aspirated DOHC V8 (rated 311 HP & 325 lb-ft),

95 ci/1,560 cc turbocharged DOHC? diesel inline 4 (rated 107 HP & 177 lb-ft),

122 ci/1,997 cc turbocharged DOHC? diesel inline 4 (rated 134 HP & 236 lb-ft) 147 ci/2,400 cc turbocharged DOHC? diesel inline 5 (rated 161 HP & 251 lb-ft in 2006-2009 2.4D spec, 173 HP & 310 lb-ft in 2009+ 2.4D spec, 182 HP & 295 lb-ft in 2006-2009 D5 spec, or 202 HP & 310 lb-ft in 2009+ D5 spec)

It would make these so much easier to read. Otherwise, it just looks like a wall of text.

As much as I'd love to have one with a V8, I've never heard someone identify a Volvo as a cool car in real life. Cool to me, but not by cool wall standards.

@Azure Flare well, usually that's not necessary, and it would kind of break the format I'm wokring with. But it would definitely help with cars like this that have about 20 billion different engines, with multiple states of tune. I remember the 61-64 Impala being like that as well. Stayed up until the wee hours of the morning, trying to get them all straight.

Dull saloon/sedan. Not interesting or offensive enough to warrant anything other than meh.

Swedish, not a Koenigsegg or an XC90, therefore automatic sub zero, but this does stand out as a particularly sub zero Volvo.

Average, modern, inoffensive non-estate Volvo. I'm surprised it had a V8 option at one point, though we never got it.

Probably the coolest uncool rep car currently available.

I'll just leave this here...

Because nothing screams cool like an obnoxious, loud exhaust 👍

I should know, I have an HKS Super Drager!

Shall I enter sarcasm tags now or later?

@UrieHusky But DAMN That sounds So good , If you hear it from a distance You would never think that the sound made by a Volvo but rather a Mustang 5.0

I,d say cool for The V8

It has some interesting quirks like the V8 engine, and one of the nicest interiors in a sub-$80K car.

But ultimately, its quite dull, and as such is primarily bought by middle-aged people not even remotely interested in cars or driving. Uncool.

Normally not really interested in these kinds of cars, but a V8 option nudges it into cool, if only just.

It's like hearing the Ikea spokesperson say "Ford Taurus" with his crazy Swedish accent. In a way, it continued the SHO tradition, by having a Yamaha V8 up front.

Still, it's a woefully noncompetitive car in the 7-series/A8/S-Class category, and the styling is more anonymous than handsome. All the things that make it cool are car enthusiast features - regular folk will just think you borrowed your retired-architecture-professor uncle's car.

I've driven the T6 variant of this. Awesomely competent high speed cruiser with lots of grunt. And the design has held up kind of well over the years.

Uncool.

It's a grandpappy car for the grandpappies who are too fussy to pick up a German and too impractical to buy a Lexus. I mean, could you ever see yourself buying this car with actual money before you turn 80? I can't.

I wanted to vote cool and then realized the fact that myself and other Volvo geeks think it's cool means it's actually uncool.

[...] a woefully noncompetitive car in the 7-series/A8/S-Class category [...]

That's quite a compliment, 5-series/A6/E-Class is much closer. Volvo hasn't had a 7-series contender since the S90 Royal in '98 and nowadays they somehow manage to make big cars that aren't all that big when you actually get in, the S/V60 being a top example of this. No idea what happened to the bigger-than-the-exterior interiors of the old 700 and 900 series.

But what comes to the coolness... even as a Volvo driver myself I can't call the S80 cool. I can call it a very good car in its class but it certainly isn't cool in any other way than with the AC at full blast.

Uncool. It comes with a V8 which is cool, but everything else is so bland and boring that it blends in with everything else on the road. No thanks.
