Certainly not a terrible car, as you can't go wrong with a Ferrari. However, I do feel like the 488 GTB's styling resembles a 458 Italia too closely. Therefore, the car looks a bit dated for 2015.

Uncool.

I never knew Ferrari put any thought into wheel design, I always thought they just picked which ever five spokes from the Halfords catalogue that fitted.

The 88 in the name and the presence of turbos, makes me think of the 288 gto, which I find cool for a Ferrari. It's a slight improvement in looks over the 458 in some areas. Though I never really liked the look of the 458. Somewhere between cool and uncool, but not meh.

It's not as pretty as a 458, it doesn't sound as good and you will be viewed as a rich tosser.

But it's the first turbocharged mid-engined Ferrari since the F40 and 288 meaning it stands alongside legends in the lineup. However it does performance in an almost McLaren-like clincal fashion whereas the F40 would've been a big event.

Uncool.

The performance of this thing is incredible, but it's dragged down by the awkward looks. Meh

The 458 is, in my opinion, the best looking thing to come out of Ferrari since the Enzo. The 488 on the other hand, looks like crap. Add onto that the stigma of driving a modern Ferrari and you get one seriously uncool car.

Kind of an ugly Ferrari especially when you compare this to the much better looking 458.

SU.

The 458 never really clicked properly with me, this is a 458 after an axe attack.

Saying that, it's a technological masterpiece of a car so it gets a Meh for some cool ideas.

Seriously Uncool. I never found the 458 particularly pretty or at least, not as pretty as everyone reckoned it was. This looks like a 458 that has been through several ugly bushes.

Vast improvement over the 458's looks, but still not really a "cool" car. It's too new, and for me, new isn't that cool.

Why didn't they style it?
Also, a pinnacle point of a Ferrari is a gated shifter. This is an auto so that's that.
There has been worse Ferraris though.
Uncool.

You know, I never really noticed until you posted this.

It's the first thing I focused on during the reveal, and can't un-see it since. The droptop makes it even more obvious.

Modern Ferrari is already SU land. That this comes in uglier than the previous car, and having to follow quite possibly one of the most impressive nat-asp V8's around (the Speciale), does it no favours.

Door handles that only your 5 year-old self could reach without having to assume a wacky pose.
Right?

I'd take a gullwing door with handles just above the sill that require you to actually bend over rather than...I don't know...face away from the door at a 45° angle, bend at the knees and grasp at the handle with your arm behind you?

Looking at the height of the handles compared to the height of the wheels, those handles must be at least 21 inches off the ground. I'm tall, but the tips of my fingers are only 27 inches off the ground. That's hardly an awkward reach. As most contemporary V8 Ferrari owners probably suffer from short-man-syndrome, i'd happen a guess that they were designed to suit most potential owners.

Motortrend started their review talking about the door handles:

"The door handle of the Ferrari 488 GTB is probably as good as any place to start. It’s a curiously shaped piece, a vaguely finlike structure that requires your fingertips to be inserted from the top to open the door. A bijou stylish flourish from Ferrari design chief Flavio Manzoni and his team? Nope. The door handle is shaped like that, says Ferrari aerodynamics specialist Enrico Cardile, to help direct air into the massive inlets on the 488’s broad haunches."
