It looks like a 318i modified by someone who received Halfords vouchers for Christmas. The M3 of the day was probably a better all rounder too. Uncool.

I think I'd like it better if it had better wheels.

Don't get me wrong, I quite like tuner cars, just they have to be done properly. And this one, in my opinion, isn't.

Uncool

I was fenced, until I saw this:

You could, forseeably, V8 swap and ugly-bodykit an M3 at any REPUTABLE shop if you have the money, and end up with similar results. No better than a local Tuner Special? Uncool.

And I think that's the whole crux of the problem... 120,000 buys you a regular BMW 320i or 316i, all the suspension upgrades, a seam-welded chassis, a rollcage, a V8 swap, and probably an M3, as back-up.

Contrawise, I bet I could get a 2.5 liter inline six up to about 600 hp with a full engine build for half-the-money.

It's an awesome car, yes, but I think I'm with HFS on this... Alpina is something you desire... you may know nothing about a specific Alpina build, but if you see an Alpina on the road, you can assume that that's a cool Beemer.

A Hartge? Not yet. Not just yet.

Borderline uncool. Despite me sort of liking and respecting the car.

M3's are uncool, based on the people who drive them. A tuner version of an M3 automatically renders it Seriously Uncool. You can't get much less cool then one of these.

Toronado. Are you able to select the poll option "Public Poll" (or something along those lines) next time?
Therefore we can all snoop about and see which users voted for what. 👍 .
Good job on hosting the cool wall though. :)

This. Unless I'm mistaken the E60 M5 (current) is the only one with a V10. Am I right?

Yes, the current range has the engines I said, and my point is that I think those are the right engines for those cars. V10 for the M5, V8 for the M3.

Meh, I personally think the M5, like the M3 and most other BMWs, shoulda stuck with the Inline 6 config, but, whatever.

^ Yeah, Its hard for me to like this car simply because of the badge and the person that would drive it. The wheels are a bit cheezy also.
But whatevers, i'm sure its a blast to drive though.

Uht-uh... naturally aspirated four-bangers is where it's at. Oh for the days when the M3 was actually a homologation special.

The closest you can get nowadays is the 320si... (carbon fiber valve cover... mhmmmm...) but of course, marketing dictates that the "sports" model has got to have a hulking big engine in it...

I'd love to see a 400 hp turbocharged four-banger 3-series with an engine built up the wazoo with an 8000 rpm limiter and the body-lightening done with the M3. It's sure to be faster and drive better...

But the range at the time for that car was M5 - V8 , M3 - I6. :dunce:

Read carefully, I said:

Dont you think I know about the engines in the E46 M3 and the E39 M5??? Dude, the ":dunce:" is for you...

I turned it off on purpose. I'm perfectly open to reinstating it, but only if people seriously want it.

I'd honestly keep it closed. That'll keep trolls from targeting certain people, should keep things more civil.

Yes, I am curious now and again, but it's probably for the best.

I'll support my vote to turn it on again. I enjoy looking at (and picking on) people’s opinions. :)

No no, don't you remember? All the c0cks who were previously driving BMWs have now moved to Audis .
Oh yeah... forgot about that

Bmw's are hell cool and i don't care what stereotype they may or might not come with. as for the car in question its cool but only made it by a fraction. give me an m3 anyday:tup:

I'm pretty sure it's based off a 318i or 330i. Not an M3... BMW even used the H50 for their own R&D purposes because it was such a good conversion.

The H50 in question is not supercharged though, the one in that article is 493Hp, this one is a N/A 5.0L @ almost 400Hp. I'm not saying anyone is really wrong, but different articles talk of different things, one says M3 based, the other based off normal 3 series donor cars.

"For American customers, a local 328i or 330i is shipped to Germany for the conversion."

I just don't know what to believe.

Perhaps your right, but only about the European spec version, as your article is "European car", mine being a US based mag, "Car and Driver".
