Perhaps a Corsa could do 90 if unmodified, but with the weight of all the parts a boy racer will have fitted, about 60 is the fastest you're likely to see.

The Superbird isn't that heavy, it's just a little over 3,800lbs. A modern Challenger is just over 4,000lbs to put it into perspective. Remember older cars have virtually no safety features so despite being made of heavy metal and being the size of a small planet, they aren't actually all that heavy.

This car is so cool that it reduces global warming.

It's one of the cars that caused the "global cooling" scare of the 70's.

Weight has little to do with top speed. Drag and horsepower are far more important.

Woops! Weight has almost nothing to do with theoretical top speed, I should know that. :dopey:

But even then, the road cars probably still couldn't surpass around 150mph.

Awesome thing, this is a funky colored land yacht muscle car to the extreme.

Sub-zero.

Loony American muscle car = Automatic Sub-freaking-Zero.

Gotta be a Sub-Zero from me (pay no attention to the avatar).

As far as any questions about the wing are concerned, it was that size for two reasons; first, it enabled the trunk to be opened without modifying the hinges as had to be done with the Charger Daytona, and second, intimidation. Plymouth had tested the car in a wind tunnel and was able to get the same effect with a smaller wing (7 inches, I think it was), but went with the 24 inch wing because it was more visually striking.

Plus, it's totally easier to find in a crowded parking lot. :sly:

Solid Sub-Zero. 👍 Nuff said.

I remember seeing one of these at a Chrysler cruise some 10 years ago and my opinion of it hasn't changed. That thing is awesome. Purposeful, huge and it has a horn that goes 'meep meep.' What more could you possibly need?

Wikipedia
The Superbird's styling proved to be a little extreme for 1970 tastes (many customers preferred the regular Road Runner), and as a consequence, many of the 1,920 examples built sat unsold on the back lots of dealerships as late as 1972. Some were converted into 1970 Road Runners to move them off the sales lot.

The 70's were uncool.

Tat depends who you are talking too. I happen to like many of the designs that came out. They weren't as good as the 60s I agree with you there though.

No way, the '70s where a 3rd best, next to the '60s and '50s.

It get's a Submarine-Cool from me! :D

Dear Sweet Jesus. This car is the very definition of outlandish.

Zero degrees Kelvin.

According to AeroWarriors.com, a website dedicated to the Superbird/Charger Daytona, the Plymouth Superbird's max speed is 130-160 MPH.

EDIT: As of right now, the Superbird is solidly in Lord Kelvin's Ice Box with a 1.782

This is super cool(sub-zero) and I'd love to have one. Anyone wanna spare 300k?

I'm late for this, but I'm thinking this belongs in Sub-zero; this and the daytona are Nascar legends & just mighty muscle cars in general. Also, like what someone said here already; it's still a head-turner, even after 40+ years.
