He ran a 1'40.4 on race rubber and one-stopped, when he qualified in 1'41.7 on supersofts?

Jebus.

can't run super softs with road cars. However, he DID supposedly run that with the extra weight, which is a little harder to believe.

If he says he ran it, I believe him.

One thing to remember is you can change tyre types at pitstops. :sly:
It's conceivable to run an SH/SS combo to begin with on the FF cars, turn enough laps and stop once taking on a set of SS/SS tyres to run faster laps at the end of the race as some of your fuel has burnt off too. (provided you don't top off, of course, which isn't necessary in these races. ;))

I had a great run in the 350Z, and was able to do a 1-stopper using SS tyres all round for both stretches. They were red / orange at the front (especially front left) when I pitted on lap 12, but I was able to lap mostly in the 1'34 - 1'35s until they started go off around lap 10, and my 11th lap was a high 1'37.
Not the ideal scenario, but I figured given the car's power deficit I should try and take advantage of it's lighter weight and thus better tyrewear. (Although now I'm going to be carrying 5% extra weight into the next round, that might've been a one-off advantage. :indiff:)

Or not change at all - I ran the Civic on 3 sets of SH fronts and a single set of SS rears.

Nevertheless, he made one stop and ran a 1.3s quicker lap in the race than on the "ideal" during qualy. That's one hell of an improvement.

I know I am a comparative tyre-rapist, but there's no way I could have run more than 6 laps with Strong tyre wear and SS fronts on either car even if I'd gone with the wheel (where I'm almost as saintly to rubber as daan).

I think the mystery can be cleared up. Did both races for both classes initially on SM tires all around, came into the pits on lap 11/12, and then did the remainder on SH tires all around. I used the medium sports early in an effort to get a better chance at beating the Ai without them punting the hell out of me corner after corner! If the race were 22 laps instead of 23, I would have been able to use medium sports all the way, but that last lap was a killer!

So far as my ST time being faster during the race than during qualifying, just remember that in Time Trial mode our tires never get to heat up like they do during a race. Therefore, I'm able to use the MINI's better qualities (front-end grip under braking as well as mid-corner grip once brakes are off) as I get into my groove lap after lap.

Those front tires heat up to capacity, while the rears remain cold. This makes the car's front-end a bit tricky, but (like I said) the grip-in winds up being phenomenol. I never thought to run softer tires in the rear, actually. Used to do that during my GT1 days (the GT1 Driving Manual recommended it). 💡
