I will edit this post with more information in due time. In the mean time I have gotten started on my cover. Once done I will provide a template for multiple styles so that you put your own images into the cover. This is my WIP so far.

UPDATE 1: There are a ton of ideas and examples in this thread over at NeoGaf. You can use these links for templates: Link 1, Link 2. Once I am done I will upload the PSD file and tell you which layers are which so that you can simply hide them and make whatever design you want.

The second part of this thread should be an open area for submitting your best pictures for everyone who wishes to make cover to use. Please keep that standard of you shots high. I know this is subjective but don't just throw in a pic you think looks nice. It should make you and others say wow. If you have specific designs for parts of the cover uploaded them for the whole community to use would be great.

Update: 2
Here are the files I used for in my work.
http://www.mediafire.com/?pca26ix6ycxrx (PSD files)
http://www.mediafire.com/?qwrateqtkng7u (Picture files)

I have labeled each layer in the master PSD file which is called "GT5 Cover 1.PSD". I did not a perfect job and took some shortcuts on some layers, as a result when you hide certain layers, they may look strange or unfinished. It should not be too much extra work though.

Finally there is one part of this whole thing that is NOT up for debate. If you use other people's photos, you MUST give them credit in the bottom left hand corner on the back cover with the GTPlanet logo. You are highly advised to include the GTPlogo in some way. Once more covers start coming in, the competition will require all photos to be of the user entering the competition, so I would advise you use your own photos. Luckily it is very easy to swap photos in and out. Also all you have to do is print these on 8.5x11 paper and cut a little bit of and it will fit perfectly into your GT5 case.

I look forward toward to what the GTP community can come up with. After a while I guess we could hold a competition. But first lets get some designs in.

This is a great idea, paskowitz, very nice. I'd like to feature the community's best custom box art in a blog post in the future, so I'm eager to see what you guys come up with. 👍

Hmmmm.. PD should've used in game pictures for their cover.. would have been much more interesting! :)
Great idea OP!! Would be keeping an eye on this thread ^^

Here's mine. I had to snip your game info blocks, cause i couldn't find any. I printed mine out and it's a bit short all around sadly. And I also made a different disc.

Wow Gtuned What Material DO you guys Print it on .Or just Normal Printer Paper (Yes I am a noob at these things)

I would love to take part in this put your template is a rar file from memory and my computer can't use it. I also don't want to download anything that can use those files yet.

.rar files are not going to give you virus. 7zip is a widely used program. I suggest you loosen your tin foil hat.

.rar files dont work on mac...
is that 7zip a sort of ".rar reader"?

*Never mind. 7zip is a .exe and can't be used by mac:(

I will be updating the original post shortly with links to the PSD files and an explanation how to use them. Its all really easy. I am relatively new to Photoshop and I pulled off what I pulled of in like 3 days. I look forward to what everyone else can come up with.

A rushed cover.
It looks a bit sketchy, but it's a functional game cover!

*I need to change the rear cover text to white*

I need to find a better font for the text. Also there is just too much text. My favorite part is the carbon fiber spine. It looks really good sitting amongst a stack of PS3 games.

@ Matchate-Man: BTW when you make your own cover and use my template, you do not have to credit me. Just credit yourself and anybody you took pictures from.
