For any DSM Tuners in GTP, this is just a thread to invite everyone interested into a weekly thread showing the tricks of the trades and hints and tricks. Also, the thread will also be effected, topics anyways, by feedback from the members and viewers. For instance if someone asks for a specific topic, more than likley the thread will be about it, at least a small article.
Also I will include 4G63-T and NT tuning tips, links, and trouble shooting if requested.

If your interested in being sent a PM to notify you of the posting please let me know so either in this thred or send a PM.

DSM'er for life here <--- Count me in.
Hey also are any of you planning on going to the Mitsubishi vs. Subaru Showdown at Norwalk Raceway in Norwalk, Ohio in April? Buschur is putting on the show, it should be awesome. I already have my hotel booked for that and the DSM Shootout in August.

TSi_Shiftz
No I didn't know they were having a showdown, that sucks. I wish I would of.
I dont know if you are in the area for a trip to Ohio, but you should plan on it. It will be a great event. They are expexting a turnout as much or more than the DSM Shootout.

Nice Vid that is what I am talking about. I found a nice little "do it yourself grouding kit" for DSM.

-Tech Article How-To-
(A 4 Guage Do It Yourself Grounding Kit)
Materials needed:

-15 feet of 4-gauge power or ground wire. Available in many color options from car audio suppliers. Any color but red is okay. Red is universally used for the positive side battery connections so be very careful if you want to use red wire.
-8 pair of gold plated ring connector ends for 4-gauge wire from same place.
-Rosin core solder.
-Wire ties (optional)

Tools Needed:

-Metric wrench. Socket wrench is good for most connections but you will need a flat wrench for the alternator connection.
-Heat source for soldering. A small torch is good.
-Wire cutters
-Knife

Procedure:

1. Cut eight lengths of cable:
1 Battery to firewall. 9”
2 Battery to R strut. 13”
3 Battery to throttle body. 12”
4 Throttle body to head. 12”
5 Head to exhaust. 12”
6 Battery to L strut. 42”
7 L strut to alternator. 40”
8 L strut to distributor. 16”

2. Strip about ½ inch of insulation from each end of each cable.

3. Slide an end on a cable and rig something to hold in so the end is lower than the cable.

4. Heat the end with a torch, unroll several inches of solder wire and keep it in contact with the copper cable just above the end piece. When it’s hot enough the solder will melt. The cable will absorb solder like a sponge. Get plenty of it in there to saturate the end and for a complete bond.

5. Attach all the ends to all the cables in the same manner.

6. Slide the little black and red junction covers over each end; black on one end and red on the other.

7. Attach the black end of cables 1,2,3, and 6 to the battery ground connector. It’s tight but they should all fit. If not you may need to get a new battery connector with a longer bolt. Remove the existing firewall cable but leave the block cable unless you intend to make a new one. USE CAUTION. Do not let the cables contact the positive battery terminal!

8. Attach all the wires to the points listed above. The throttle body, and left strut tower are used as junction points to extend to other areas. There are three total connections on the left strut. I don’t think the ring connectors are big enough to use the actual strut mounting studs. I used the mounting bolt for an air conditioner hose. I had to replace the bolt (6mm I think) with a slightly longer one to hold all three connections and the bracket. Clean, scrape or sand each ground location to assure good contact.

9. Tighten all nuts to specified torque.

10. Start it up and feel the power!

local guys new GT42.. yes, it's going on a 2.0 4G63 awd Talon. with a small 350-shot :scared:
 HOLY CRAP!!!!
That is a gargantuan turbo. You'd almost need a second starter-type motor to spool that thing up. HA HA HA Seriously though, that thing is monsterous!!! And, a "350 shot" of n2o??? Thats like over half my whp in the "little shot" for that thing!!! Crap, this thing is crazy. I likes!!! 👍

Thats a given. A friend of mine has a '99 GS. I make fun of him all the time. I call it the "Tranny" car. Just like a hot transexual chick, it looks good at first. But, then you find out its "underhood secret" if you know what I mean. He hates that, but its true. They really are a waste. Unless all you want is a show car, just get a damn turbo to start.

TSI on the way :)
What makes me laugh are the people who turbo the n/t's or the turbo 420A's. Lets think about this for a minute. 91 Talon ES, $1,500....turbo conversion, $1,000...fuel system and management, $600.... Other crap to make it work right, $500... Total cost = $3,600, and you still have a peice of **** slow FWD.
91 Talon TSi AWD = $2,000-$3,000. You do the logic.

Last year at the shootout there was the "Turbo N/T club" there.. haha I know, an oxymoron if you've ever herd one.. But these guys put sooo much money into their 420A 2G's with huge FMIC's, 16G's... and the fastest one in the whole club ran a 14 in the 1/4... seriously now... They were the laughing stock of every DSM'er in Norwalk.

You should see it in person... cartoonishly huge. The picture above was taken by a Supra owner that has the same turbo. (credit to DaveH) The unofficial word from the Talon owner/Shop is that they want to break Sheps record. I'll post video of it in action once they start to make some solid passes.

These were taken by the shop that is building the car - excessiveautosports.com

The first 2 turbos are 67mm, the Turbonetics is a T70 that's going on a CRX in Omaha.

<<<< Lives in Omaha

What shop is building the CRX??? There are quite a few fast cars around here. Have you ever seen video's on the net of that blue turbo Silverado??? He's from around here. I've only seen it a couple times, never seen it run in person. And, again, that is a HUGE turbo. Damn.

Hilg

Joey Keyman the owner of Excessive here in Sioux Falls is building the crx. (1.9 liter, 10.5cr, Dart block, alcohol) It's actually his old drag-car that he sold to some dude down there. on our local forum today, joey said the guy has a GT42 now also. he must have seen Ryans turbo sitting on the display case making his T70 look small. hahahahahaha

What's his name Parish? I've seen the truck in a few videos, I like it. You need to post some video of your car though man. I need some motivation to get my car finished. :)

I don't know what he is pushing but I just want to put about 400whp on a AWD talon, that will make me very happy. 14B or 16G nothing bigger.

Yep, you got it. The truck is sweet. Right up my alley. I'm all about sleepers, and that thing is close to as good as it gets in that department. Just awesome.

I only have one video of the car, and its an absolutely horrible video. Its from a year or so back. We were just making some passes one chilly day. Nice and chilly, great for an AWD turbo  :trouble: :) My friend had the camera and was talking during most of it. Then, my car ran its first 11.3, and he flipped out. My previous best at the time was a low 11.52, so this was great. After the time flashed up, he was shaking the camera and freaking so much, you couldn't see anything. I'll see if I can clean it up a bit, and trim off some of the garbage and get just the single run. Won't be the best vid, but you'll get the gist. 👍

what are your mods? the fastest Talon that I have seen in person went 11.4 with an scm61, same guy now has the GT42. I'm debating if I should go with the FP 3065 or look at other options.

Well some good news! I did my taxes and I am going to use the money to buy my brothers Buschur FMIC street core and we are going to make all of the piping. He is upgrading his GSX to a race core. But I am excited, I feel left out when Im the only one at the Shootout without a nice smile :D

My first car, non turbo 420a. bleh thinking about putting a 13g or 14g on it. gotta pull the engine first... 97 gs paid $1000 for it

I have the same turbo. Here are some basics.....

6-bolt
SCM61 @ 26psi on ported 2G manifold
Crower rods with Wiseco slugs
Ported 1G head, HKS 272s, HKS gears
Apexi GT dp and exhaust, 3.75" no cats
ACT 2600/Fidanza
AEM EMS, running MAF
AEM C2DI ignition
AEM Wideband

And the list could go on. Those are the basics though. Its a fun piece. What are you running???

Hilg

at the moment I'm not running anything, still waiting for joey to get my motor/trans, then I have to bring my motor to the machine shop, send the trans to shepherd and then back to joeys for the AEM. when not working on the Talon, I'm working on my Omni - 2.2 liter w/50 trim. thinking about building a 2.5 liter stroker and going to an auto..

what are your plans for the car, 10's?

Honestly, I'm basically done with it. I'm sure with some slicks, little more boost, and a little tweaking of the suspension I could get a 10. But, the car is built more to be a fast daily driver right now, not balls out dragger. I'm basically going to stop driving it soon though. Once spring arrives, I'm probably going to start shopping STis and Evos. I'll keep the Talon though, and maybe then work on getting those last couple 1/10ths. But, honestly I'm fairly content with it. It runs great, doesn't break anything now, and still looks great. But, I'm ready for a new car. We'll see come spring.

I haven't seen him for awhile, but here is a pic of Ryans car with the turbo mounted.

****ty pictures, but you get the idea.

I know man, that is unreal!!

It's funny, there is an "ex-DSMer" on the Supra forums that likes to tell us repeatedly what Sheps car will never do. IIRC, he said the car
would not see a 7 second pass in this lifetime.. wouldn't that suck to have dsm and supra people calling you a ****ing idiot?
