My proposal is just a quick and easy way to minimize caution laps, and to try to prevent people that get in multiple accidents from continually rejoining the lead pack with fresh tires and a full tank of fuel. I've found that this is what usually leads to more cautions than anything else.

Knowing that you can't pit under caution might even cause more drivers to use a little more caution than is currently exhibited.

Agree. Like I said, it's a very good idea and we have to change anyway so it's a strong contender for implementation.

Yeah gotcha. As I said, I may not straight up change it to your idea, a compromise might be made to bring it closer to the real series, we'll see 👍

Wait, 18:30, did you mean GMT?

I listed the times for the US and the UK.

18:30 Eastern and 23:30 BST are the same time, just different time zones.

Brickyard 200 season comparision-

This season:

Pole: 40.060 (me)
Fastest lap: 39.081 (me when I caught the draft of the lead pack and drafted up to them over 2 laps)
Percent of laps driven by/spent behind pace car: 31.25% (25/80 laps not counting the pace lap)
Field size at start: 13 + pace car (highest turnout to an IndyCar race ever)

Previous season:

Pole: ??? (me)
Fastest lap: 39.383 (matty)
Percent of laps driven by/spent behind pace car: 37.5% (30/80 laps not counting the pace lap)
Field size at start: 12 + pace car

That'll be our last race with the old weight regulation. The new one will mean we lose more speed in the turns, and give us slower laptimes.

I can only do comparisons if replays are saved. I am missing one or two from last season.

I have most if not all Joe

I checked what I'm missing- Tokyo Reverse and the Brickyard 150. The 150 replay won't matter since we have the 500 instead this season. All I'd need for Tokyo is the amount of laps the pace car has done (pause a few seconds after the race leader crosses the line, unless the pace car left just before the end). It'll be out of 32 laps, though 1 of that was the pace lap. The other thing I'd need is the fastest lap of the race (pause once most of the field has crossed the line). For pole times I'll look through the old thread when the time comes to see if we posted any.

If you leave the pits open all the time, cars that get to pit road first could pit, and then come back around and pass the leader, who could pit afterwards, depending on his location on track when the caution begins. That would definitely be bad.

Example: The leader is entering the front stretch at Indy Road, up by 20 seconds. A pack crashes in the esses, bringing out a caution. If you leave pit road open, everyone pits before the leader. Because of the safety car's slow speed, the cars that pitted all pass the leader when he finally gets around to pit road at the end of his next lap. Does that seem right?

The pits have to be closed and reopened in some kind of manner that retains the natural running order in a reasonable manner.

It's called being caught out by a yellow. It has happened even before the rule change in real life. Leader pits and before he gets to commitment line yellow comes out. Now he can't pit and he's at the back. It's all part of racing.

Was this accident with neljack on lap 80 as well? Or was this is a separate incident. If so, what lap? Because i didn't touch anyone till lap 80.

And i don't think that lap 80 incident was entirely my fault, as smuffy came from the right and corrected himself, hitting me, which caused a knock on effect, where i moved to the right, and got tagged on my rear right.

Personally I think we should keep the rules the way they are. It worked last season as long as everyone was quiet on the mics.

Fair point also, i'm thinking it all over.

EDIT: Drop's just sent me a PM basically explaining that our current rules negate any sort of tyre/fuel strategy because everybody stops under yellow. Reverting to his idea would mean you could still win on a good strategy if you stay out of trouble, however many cautions there are. This isn't as bad as it sounds lads, as he put it, 'it separates the men from the boys' because you HAVE to think about strategy as all stops are under green.

My opinion may not mean a whole lot, since I'm not in the series, but I would rather keep the rule the way it is for now, then when you're getting the next season ready, then change the rule if you want. Changing rules midseason just adds confusion and makes things complicated.

Happy with whatever is decided but suggest clearly put three options down and allow a vote by all in league.

That way nobody can say they did not understand.

Tom, you mentioned this a few pages back.

I know we are implementing the weight but can you please confirm if we are implementing the distribution?

I think we should. Hard to govern but back to realism as best we can. It does change the characteristics, but nothing that some time tuning can't resolve.

I'm going to carry on my tuning based in the above but potentially could be a couple if hours lost if you say we are not implementing.

👍

I disagree with not being able to pit under caution. No series does this in real life except when the pits are closed. I think it would aggravate more people having getting caught up in a wreck that's not their fault and having to wait till green to pit for repairs, ruining their race.

Keep pits under yellow, and debate whether to keep them open or closed.

My biggest contention isn't with being caught out in a yellow, necessarily. It's just that the cars that wrecked and received damage in real life definitely wouldn't come back out and gain an advantage from their wreck. Their cars would be retired for the day. They would not be getting fresh tires, and taking the race lead the next lap.

However, I also agree with this. Once the season has started, we might as well go with it, and use as much situational information from this season to improve the regulations for next season.

Right guys, we'll keep it as it is for this season. Like Mule said all this will do is cause confusion right now and it gives us plenty of time to get our ideas together 👍

I suppose we could implement it Knelly but it's even harder than transmission to regulate. I mean, we can tell if somebody's over the top speed but it's harder to tell whether their distribution is correct. Thoughts?

Well my car is now set up using thus distribution, and got it handling quite nicely in the 1:16's.

May be able to find more time before Saturday.

I've not tried this yet but I have a sneaky suspicion adding some more weight over the 710 kg may improve lap times. Is there anything stopping people adding extra weight to their cars or does it have to be exactly 710?

Just putting it out there because if no set rule, I may try adding some weight to see if I improve!

We'll keep it at exactly 710kg I think 👍

Still unsure about the distribution though, seems like a good idea in racing terms but it's a regulatory nightmare.

It makes the car handle different, putting approx 20 clicks to the rear, but easily adjusted for in setup.

It's a matter of how much you trust everyone I suppose.

Personally i think we should implement. Like the weight, you can only trust that people will not add more.

Fair point, I'll make sure everyone's aware of it before raceday 👍

What's the exact distribution level in GT5 for 43 front/57 rear mate? Need it for the OP.

Correct mate 👍

Correct mate 👍

Is it? Are they literally the numbers you see on the screen? Never really used the weight distribution before.

That's what was in your Wiki link

Need to move to the rear somewhere between 19 and 22 clicks to get the 43/57 distribution.

Yeah I mean on GT5, cheers mate I'll take a look and update the OP 👍

So we're going with the 43/57 distribution?

Plus, may be me but couldn't see the pace lap speed for road courses in the OP, if there is one considering standing starts.
