Nice I would be up for this.

We could also use the offseason weekly race to test things like small changes to regulations or new ideas.

could we do just one race where there are Super GT cars as well filling up half the field? I always wanted to do a race like this

EDIT:
I was just on the F1 website and it seems that the FiA and FOM have been doing some testing:
http://www.formula1.com/news/features/2011/7/12314.html
Maybe the X2010 look isn't completely out of the question because the X2010 is just a covered wheel F1 car with a fan

However, the X2010 visibilty was hardly high in the rain

Why? I'm guessing you haven't seen the quote in the OP:

"There is One class of cars and will only be One class"

:)

As a one-off, offseason event, I wouldn't mind doing a field with two classes one week.

We'd have to make sure we get a full server, though.

Some ideas I had:

  • [*]Split-classes between LMP and GT @ la Sarthe
[*]Full damage "iron man" endurance race @ la Sarthe

I don't want to do it for the entire season, just a one off race to see what it is like. Prefereabbly not at La Sarthe since it will take 5 laps to catch the slower cars. I think use a track like Grand Valley for it. That way there is loads of lapping. Just stick to your racing line if you are Super GT

And most of the other LMP seires are like this but they are at 21:00pm EDT usually which is 2am which is a tad inconvenient

This will never happen. 1) All the F1 teams have rejected the idea. 2) While that provides great safety of flying objects, it causes the problem of extraction. Imagine there is a fire in the car and it got mechanically jammed :(

your late, The teams decided against this.............. in the event of a fire you wouldnt be able to get out quickly

New Season 4 Thread coming up in the hour,

And my final word on the penalties

your late, The teams decided against this.............. in the event of a fire you wouldnt be able to get out quickly

It was put up on the F1 website on monday. No news on voting has been put up. All it says is they are no examining wether it is a possible alternative to improve safety (also, getting out in a fire from under a canopy is proberbly just as quick as getting out from an LMP car in fire)

EDIT: The video of the test has a windscreen that did shatter on impact but deflected the tyre away. I think that is a very possible opputrunity and may appear in future. A windscreen, not full canopy

All the teams have rejected it. It has been confirmed by a lot of sources.

Btw lol. Talk about coincidental. Me and BK posted quoting golfer saying exactly the same thing at almost the exact same time lol :D

but not the official formula 1 website? Besides, while the teams have input, they don't have the final say on the matter. If the safeety elements outway the crop in visibility and stuff then it will be put in the regulations. Its more the drivers who will have the big say, since they are the ones that will be affected by it

If any decision has been taken then I haven't heard it because I'm running by the F1 official website which should have the final word in terms of news

Le Mans cars are very different to F1 cars in the way that drivers are extracted. Basically, Le Mans cars have windows, where as F1 cars have drivers lowered in. When extracting from a Le Mans car, you can take them out sideways, where as an F1 car needs to be accessed from the top, something a hood would block.

Plus - and admittedly this is a minor complaint - how would you clean it? Drivers have tear offs on their visors, and the TV cameras have that rolling lense that wipes clean when debris hits it, but how could you get all the rubber\mud\oil\dirt\sand\water\etc. off a giant visor? Admittedly the curvature will deflect a lot, but semi-molten rubber would stick to it rather well

The F1 teams made the right choice. For the problem it solves, it creates many more :)

One thing we can all agree on is that Mercedes are the biggest F1 geeks in the world:

That is all worked out by Mercedes and they create many other facts as well

Oops double post lol

i see no double post

Also, who here likes Audi? They have extended their Playstation advertising to dynamic themes, at least in Europe

EDIT to Jamm: On facebook, F1 2011 s running a project where you submit your profile picture and it creates a collage of thousands (4,700) people to create the F1 driver cover thing. I am the little finger on his left hand. Clearly the drivers most important feature

I Own and Audi, but im still on the fence whether i like it or no,

well the theme has 2 or 3 R8's (road ones), a flying Quattro, a R8 convertible and a metalic lizard with red lights on it (yeah, I know its not entirely what Audi are famous for)

Where can I find this theme?

Right then the Penalties.

The Major Major incidents is what i was really concerned about.

*Lap 3 While Drafting Razor hit Senna causing him to spin into the wall down the straight and drop from 3rd place to 11th. effectively ending his race.

*Lap (?) Johnny hit Bombe's rear quarter going down the straight from muslanne to indy causing bombe and Johnny to spin out of control.

* Lap 15 Razor cut the exit of the 2nd chicane on the straight allowing him to pass Johnny - illegal pass

* Towards the end of the race kirk held up the race leader for several laps not allowing to make a clean pass and continue on with his faster pace. ( this probably severely altered the end of the race, but it is what it is)

* Exiting porsche curves razor gave blaze a small nudge on exit allowing him to pass. ( If this was all at the end of the race razor would have recieve a small time penalty and that would have been that)
Blaze & Razor cut the last ford chicane on the last lap, Blaze rammed into the back of Razor giving blaze the chance to pass going to the finish line.

Johnny Razor & Blaze will all receive drive through penalty time added to their final end race time (Which is 35 seconds by my math)

Razor also will get a extra 5 seconds for his corner cut pass on johnny.

Kirk will lose his points from the final round, (but that doesn't change anything)

Final Race results puts Jamman in 1st

1. Jamman
2 Blaze
3. Razor
4.Johnny
5. Mu 675
6. BK
7. Golfer
DISQ - Kirk

So I won Le Mans, 4 days after it's finished? Not a pretty way to take it, but hey I will take it :)

you try watching the replay 3-4 times and see how many days it takes you

Huh? I was 5th and I'm still 5th. Bermuda please elaborate on this. I was also caught up in Jake's accident in the first few laps as you can see in one of the pictures in the group thread. It cost me a bunch of positions.

The difference is that Jake had no control of his car at that very moment. He had no chance to avoid you.

I had actually suspected Jam to win after watching the replay too, as I could see the entire top 3 broke some major rules regarding the penalties ... but maybe I hoped they would've just stayed as they were, 'cus they were the fastest guys nevertheless.

Fastest lap is impossible to decide, as I know the lap times under 3.22 must've been with cut, but I won't remove it from Johny's record.
