GTP5 coming 12.21.02!

What is GTP5?
GTP5 is a whole new look and feel for GTPlanet. From new forums to new moderators, everything is getting updated and made-over! After more than 6 months of trashing and tweaking new ideas, I have finally created what will become the 5th version of GTPlanet and it will be released December 21, 2002.

What will happen when GTP5 comes online?
The forums will be unavailable once the upgrade begins, and you will receive a message if you try to access the forums letting you know what is going on. Provided everything goes well, I expect the forums to be closed for about 2 hours. Once I have everything in place, I will open up the forums again with their fresh new look!

Will I, as a member, have to do anything like re-register? What about my posts?
Everything, with the exception of your signature, will remain untouched and nobody will loose any posts. Just remember that your old signature will not be making move, but you will be able to create a new signature for yourself whenever you like once GTP5 is in place.

I would also like to add that although I am 99% sure I will launch GTP5 on December 21, 2002, I am a real person with a real life, and if something urgent comes up the release date may have to be pushed back further. Just don't get mad at me if that happens, because you have been warned! With that said, please post any questions or concerns you have about GTP5 here.

Cool, I was getting worried when I saw that banner, I thought it was an advert "Aiee popup adds at GTP no!" and then it lead me to this.

Anyway im just curious if your going to expand the use of the gallery. Oh and will the main site Gtplanet.net be updated?

The code will be the same all the tags will still be there, I cannot wait for this upgrade. Last years was quite good and if this new version is anything like our current layout I am just speechless

We will be running the latest version of vB available (2.2.9), but the structure of the forums and all of the code will not change.

Yes, post counts never left - they will still be counted in your profile and they will still be visible in the member directory. They will not, however, be visible in threads.

Ohh, and Emailing people, is it going to stay the way it is now(not allowing you to do much of anything...) or will it become IP based(like say I want to E-mail Snoop, I click the link and it opens my AOL mail thingy)?

Yay! Big news Ticker update!

Two concerns/questions:

1) The GTP 5 link thingie doesn't always work... I usually can only click on it once I'm in a thread. Otherwise, it's just a regular old pic.

2) What about marquees? I've always been kind of annoyed by the sometimes "overusage" of them, but of course, the Ticker kind of depends on it... I could always figure something out if they're taken out, however.

Of course! There has never, ever, been a PC or Windows software in this house in its 13 year lifespan. :smilewink

I'll try it from school tomorrow to see if it is a browser problem, since I cheked out the source code, and there's definetly a link in there...

Just make sure you are clicking on the "GTP5" text, that is a separate, smaller image and it is the only area linked to the thread.

Marquees will be removed. I know this will affect your news ticker, but keep an eye on your PM inbox for more on that later.

Now as with the post count thing I could go on about other concerns: Marquees, Signatures > but I'm willing to compromise For a short period whilst is getting it's whole new look :magnify:

However just one query for now, there won't be any changes with smiles will there?

And if there is to be a change can it be having more?
