Hello fellow Racers!!

Nice to see so many familiar names in division 2, considering the fact I'm not really into "hot lapping" , plus I wasn't happy with my lap @suzuka in F430 it's good to be here (with a lot of room for improvement, since I'm bronze at the moment).

Good to see you mr. Hun taking care of business over here. 👍
Qualifier is not a bad idea, but I was thinking more about checking other drivers racing skill in some kind of "3 days Warm Up online event". In that case we would be able to meet those of us who we didn't race against yet. The good thing are:
- since Suzuka is World Event, all of us will be able to participate
- we don't have to use 750pp cars, we will just wait 20 or 30 sec for front runners to go away and we will have track for ourselves (like in ferrari meeting or low PP thread which was very successful)
- we can just make another time schedule that will not collide with events that already are on suzuka

My vote goes to Japanese Domestic Market Cars meeting on S3 tyres with 600pp limit (maybe PP limit should be higher because calculation method was changed after update but it is easy to check with few quick test runs).

cheers, see you all on the racetrack!!

FLASH48 checking in. Don't know how long i will be here, but will give it a go! And i use a wheel.

What a nice surprise to be in division 2, gold. I'm also delighted to see many familiar names in this division.
Looking forward to even better races than we already had!

Division 2 Gold Checking in! Australia (PAL) GTP_Marky264, Feel free to add me :),

OOO can we get our own Gran Turismo Lounge just like at the Aiport? Like you know Qantas Lounge with free buffey! :D

Division 2 Gold checking in! France (PAL) GTP_yannc. Used to play a lot with my lotus tuned in spec 1, and now playing more occasionally (did find some time to run qualifier :-)
And if you see a red RX-8 last, well that's me.
G25, favorite track Susuka.

Is there other frenchy in div 2?

Hi Division 2!

Interesting to see the results. Although there are those who claim TT & racing are two different skills, I think the results (excluding a few GTPers who apparently didn't devote enough time to the qualifier) pretty accurately reflect what I've seen in the last few months of online racing. It makes me crazy that there are some guys so much faster than me - I've no idea how they do it - but I've learnt to accept it & move on... Serenity now... :p

I'm looking forward to racing with some familiar names & some new ones I haven't come across before... 👍

Hello Division 2 👍

GTP_maX cecking in , i'm happy to see some familiar racers in the same division with me. Some of you already have me on your friends list, the rest please feel free to add me. :sly:

@Sausages: Thanks for your kind words but, concerning the steward's job, I'll make it clear that either we trust each other or we don't. So, the "qualifier" I had in mind won't have any secrecy (we'll post here the laptimes, I don't even have a PM Inbox capable of handling this, it's limited to 50 PMs - Inbox and Sent Items together), we'll just post here what times we achieve and we'll have to believe in everyone's times without need of proof.

So, the only thing I can be responsible for is to create and edit the post where the laptimes will be published. If there are cheaters among us (and I firmly believe there aren't), I'll pity them, but it won't bother much with it. Let's keep those strict cheater-proof rules to the Official Events, run by Sphinx and whatever staff he invites to the job.

To all those that prefer races, I do also, but the problem is that we are 76 and creating a "championship" would be a huge task. Anyway, if anyone is up to it, I'll gladly enter.

But ...

We can do one very simple thing, using our "qualifier". We can split the guys that make the qualifier in groups of 8 (to make sure everyone gets in the race, even if wildcards click "start" at the scheduled time), acording to laptimes posted, (it'll be 8 groups, I guess, if 64 drivers enter) and each group will then schedule his own race.

Then we can have a "grand finale", with the race winners of the "group" races.

(i'm thinking this at the same time I'm writing it)

The tricky part will be this. No one will know, until a few minutes before the scheduled "grand finale", what car/track combo will be used (it'll have to be an international event, unless only PAL or only NTSC drivers make it to this race). As I'll not probably enter this last race, I can be the one who decides that :D but, in the improbable case that I enter the race, I'll delegate that responsability on any other division fellow.

It should be a fast-forward event (one day for the qualifier - friday, one for the group races - saturday and one for the "grand finale" - sunday)

Does all this make sense?

Why organise another qualifier when you've already completed one and have the division already laid out? Maybe I'm wrong and I'm being slightly over sensitive here, but this really comes as a smack in the mouth for all my efforts in organising this, I feel that now you have some form of structure you want to take the opportunity to suck on the juices of my hard work and do it how you feel it should've been done and thus take it in a different direction.

I want to remind you that this thread is the GTP_Division 2 Members Meeting Thread, not 'GTP_Division 2 Members Meeting Thread Lets Do Our Own Thing And Start by Doing Another Qualifier' thread.

I see you point, Sphinx.

I can only speak for myself but I'm quite sure that everyone meant a training sesson and not a qualifier since like you said... We've done that.

I too was a little confused, these divisions are for the future when private rooms come. Also we've just done a GTP Registery Qualifying and Sphinx has mentioned that there might be Stage 2.

I stood before my desktop screen for a while, reading and re-reading your post, and mainly what you acuse me of doing (in the bolded part).

I'm speechless. Maybe I'm over-sensitive also.

I tried to give here a few ideas of fun things Division 2 guys could make, to race each other and meet each other. Could be a time trial, but it couldn't be a race (because we are so many), so I thought of a simple event, with a one day time trial to set up a few races and then a last race. I named the time trial a "qualifier", just because it would determine the participants of the following races.

I've no interest in taking advantage of others work, I've no interest in smacking anyone's mouth. That's just not me, believe it or not (because you don't know me).

So, I take it all back. As far as I'm concerned, I'll take no part in unofficial self -organized division events, as I understand you feel they are a form of "sucking the juices of your hard work".

And, of course, I'm sorry to make you feel that your work was abused.

End.

Sphinx, now that this GTP Event is vast enough to make any real racing competition blush in terms of participants I guess we should start organizing it a bit more. ie a Subforum for GTP and further Subforums for each divisions with admins for those. Don't get me wrong here Sphinx, we all appreciate your hard work tremendously but at the moment you're doing it mostly, if not all on your own (I guess). Wouldn't it be better if the work was split up a bit more?

Hi,

div 2 bronze here.

i just recently registred here and i really don't have a clue what is going to happen next...
i just did quick time trial with the ferrari 30 mins before the end of the deadline and send a PM to sphinx and now i am in this list :D div 2 not bad as i didnt really push myself yet!

will there be division races and if yes, how will they be organized? i just wanted to compete with whatever was going on i didn't really know what was going to happen so i hope someone can explain me because i really want to be in it hehe.

Hi guys,

Seems like my lap was good enough for div 2 gold, so that's were I am and I'm proud of it. :)

I'm at Fuji with the F430 at the moment. Feel free to join 👍

Hey, don't worry about it Hun - everyone realizes you weren't trying to undermine or repeat the work Sphinx has done on the Qualifier - just trying to organize some "fun" activities for Div 2.

Speaking for myself, I don't have much interest in running more TTs - I can already run as many TTs as I want within the existing GT5P TT structure. I would rather try & organize some informal race meetings among Div 2 members.

I would like to apologise to you for coming across so badly and offending you. I’m sorry.

Unfortunately for you (again I apologise) and most embarrassingly for me, I guess the last month or so has taken its toll on me, and what I read from your post didn’t go down too well at all, and thus all I saw was red.

I won’t defend my outburst, but all I ask is for you to imagine for a minute how it appeared from this end:

After a number of months of advice seeking, testing, preparation and then implementation, the main objective of running organized events, such as a “championship” with a “grand finale” for “all those that prefer races” for example, is now that much closer to reality. It’s been a long hard slog getting to where we are now, Therefore, when I saw someone attempting to do something similar by using the newly created divisions that took so long to create and also skip all the essential pain in the arse time consuming ingredients such as “those strict cheater-proof rules” and “secrecy”, I blew my top.

Sorry again.

One objective is indeed to "split it up a bit more", and that's exactly what we're doing right now in the background. There is still a long way to go to get this foundation firmly set for the future of OLR and I'm still on the lookout for the right people to help out in the form of race admin's and race stewards for example.

Speaking for myself, I don't have much interest in running more TTs - I can already run as many TTs as I want within the existing GT5P TT structure. I would rather try & organize some informal race meetings among Div 2 members.

You are mistaken if you believe that all this work is just for offline Time Trial events. Any Tom, Dick or Harry Dunsden can do that.

I understand you Sphinx, and I repeat what I wrote earlier:

"I'm sorry to make you feel that your work was abused".

It was not my intention, and I didn't even realize that you feeling this was a possible consequence. I am a bit clumsy sometimes. I'm glad we cleared this up between us.

:)

I'm looking forward to actively participating in officially sanctioned OLR events. 👍

I'm also looking forward to informal races and TT type competitions with racers from Div 2 and other divisions.

That was exactly my point: I don't want more TTs - I want online racing 👍

I'm not sure how it will work out, and I trust Sphinx and co. to come up with a truly spectacular structure around the online competition, but I could see TT playing an important role in online racing -- if nothing else than to seed the online race brackets, and starting lineup for the races.

Imagine a TT as a qualifier for a race, and used to give permitted PP levels for race participants... for example, 8 racers in a 750pp event... qualifiers are allowed to set their PP as follows:
top TT time: 745pp
2nd TT time: 746pp
3rd TT time: 747pp
4th TT time: 748pp
5th TT time: 749pp
6-8th TT time: 750pp

Bingo, you have a seeded grid. You also have a (very minor) built in handicap.

Again, I don't know if this is what Sphinx and co. have in mind, but it's one of the many possibilities in the mix, and comes closer to matching the experience of RL racing.

Good idea, but I would like PD to have Qualifying for future races if it's possible :)

I'm sure they will eventually, and the WRS will integrate that into the series once they do.

Until then, we have to make do with what we have available.

how about Div 2 have some informal races Monday night. All in the same car/color/PP combo at Suz750. i suggest white/M3/Max. from 7:04PM, (11:04GMT) every 15 Till 8:49PM (12:49GMT).

I like the idea, though we may have to futz with the times, since we're spread all over the place.

Hun: maybe you could add timezone to the master list?

I'm NTSC: Pacific Time Zone (UMT + 8)
