Stewards Notes
Back to the first track we used in GT5 WRS this week. This track is famous for the "Time Attack" format, and the car this week is set up for maximum laptime, with racing soft tires and full tuning at your disposal. This might be the most neutral FR car you will ever drive. As replacement for the Super GT NSX, it carries the torch well. Don't forget to crank up the volume during replays, the engine really sings at redline. :)

Eligibility

This WRS-Online event hosted by 3D3 Racing is open to GTP_Registered members only. If you are not currently on the registry, join now by following the GTP_WRS Registration!

Registration Instructions

The following must be performed by every driver for every event:
  • Click the registration button above, fill-in and submit the online registration form (use your GTP_ tag ID)
  • Leave a quick note in this thread to let us know you've registered and any other comments.
The following must be performed only one time per driver (not per event):
  • Send a PSN friend request to GTP_3D3Racing, GTP_3D3_A and GTP_3D3_B from your GTP_tag account.
  • Submit the 3D3 Racing Online Driver Database Entry Form. Your information will need to be verified before you are added to the db and before your ID will appear in the registered driver table above. You can view the official driver database here.

There is a 32 car/driver limit for this event (per region) and slots are awarded on the grid using a first come first serve basis. Reference the registered drivers table above for availability. This is a stand alone race and points are not tallied for a series. Future WRS-Online races hosted by 3D3 racing may have different driver limits and will require re-registration using the same first come first serve basis and participation in future events is optional.

Registration Changes

If you want to change your time slot, add a time slot or update your color choices just click on the registration link and fill out the form again and submit with new values. Your last entry will override any previous entries.

Cancellations

If for some reason, after you register for the event, you are unable to attend please click the registration button above and complete the form again selecting "cancel" as your status. Please also post a note in this thread as the table above can take some time to update.

Following Weeks

We will be using the same registration table over and over again each week.
The table will be reset every Sunday-Monday and a post will be made saying the new sign-up is open.
Thread title will also be updated with the appropriate oncoming Saturday date.

  • 3D3 Race Stewards (who are taking part in race, but will review the replay) reserve the right to boot or invalidate the result of any driver from the Race Room for driving offensively. If you ignore any warnings from the stewards and are booted from the race room, you will not be allowed to participate in future 3D3 events.
  • 2 wheels on (or vertically in line with) the track at all times
  • Rumble/ripple strips are part of the track
  • Runoff areas are not part of the track
  • Limit your contact with walls or objects, visible or invisible
  • No hybrids
  • No cheating of any kind
  • Nothing that goes against the spirit of the rules
  • Passing and Blocking: Aggressive blocking is not permitted, but the driver in front has the right to choose his/her line and braking point and drivers behind should respect that line. Be especially careful when you are on older tires than the competition as the speed difference may be significant. These events are "for fun" so just play nice and take a conservative rather than an aggressive approach when possible.

Formation Lap

Credit to GTP_Oink

  • A steward will exit track, view the live timing monitor and announce the order after qualification while all drivers remain on track.
  • All drivers should exit track after the order is announced and enter the pits. When all drivers are in the pits a steward will start the race.
  • After the system places you on the grid drivers should proceed into stagger formation in order.
  • Pole sitter will choose his/her preferred side of the track.
  • There should be no overlap between cars in the staggered formation.
  • Speed limit on formation lap is 62 mph / 100 km/h and pole sitter should maintain this speed (or less) to keep pack together, in particular in the final sector.
  • Weaving or other tire warming procedures are NOT allowed during the formation lap.
  • Pole sitter will exit the last corner and take care to give enough time to allow all cars behind to safely exit the final corner.
  • Start marker for Tsukuba is the start/finish line.
  • The pole sitter should start the race by accelerating to race pace at the identified start marker (track specific and may or may not be the start/finish line).
  • All other drivers should accelerate after the driver in front of you does so.
  • No passing is allowed before the start marker.
  • Be cautious and courteous in the first turn. Dive bombing will be penalized and will not be tolerated.

How to set up RA Functions

Finding the RA functions and map them on the controller or wheel can be hard,till now.

Good Luck, OLR Team:gtplanet:

Background

Welcome to the WRS Academy!

In this series of noncommittal weekly returning events we allow division 3-4-5 drivers to get used to clean, close racing in an relaxed enviroment. The combos which will be used are based upon the known Weekly Online Racing Events. The purpose of these Academy Races is to let lower division drivers develop, improve laptimes, -racepace and confidence hereby helping them to be able to enjoy their races even more.
These events are followed by our division 1&2 drivers as they function as 'instructors' and if wanted, tips and advice will be offered by them. This way lower seated drivers would be better prepared in the other 3D3 Racing events.

TsukubaCircuit_1bannercopy.jpg

Is it possible to become a faster driver ?

Yes it is, but there are some things you have to be aware of. First of all you have to know that this is a time consuming effort. Even top division drivers spend 4-8 hours and sometimes even more on a time trial or preparation of a race. Second ; You must *really* want it, everybody wants to be fast but to become fast(er) practice is essential. If I use my own example : it has taken me more than six months to develop from a division 5 to the division 3 racer. And then there are some basics which are needed to be able to progress. These basics will be explained and practiced if you attend the GTP WRS Academy.
Here are some other examples of drivers who improved over time since the beginning of 3D3Racing:
  • GTP_WRP001 .............. D3 Silver -> D2 Silver
  • GTP_Hydro ................. D3 Silver -> D2 Silver
  • GTP_Gravitron ............. D4 Silver -> D2 Silver
  • GTP_MilleRSVR ............ D4 Silver -> D3 Silver
  • GTP_MadMax86 ........... D2 Gold -> D1 Bronze
  • GTP_NINE_HUNDRED ... D4 Bronze -> D3 Bronze
  • GTP_gooners_17 ......... D3 Silver -> D2 Gold
  • GTP_otxjto .................. D4 Gold -> D3 Bronze
  • GTP_RaceRyder ........... D4 Silver -> D4 Gold
  • GTP_Allibubba99 .......... D4 Bronze -> D3 Bronze
  • GTP_Chuk ................... D2 Bronze -> D2 Silver
  • GTP_Hasslemoff ........... D3 Silver -> D3 Gold
  • GTP_jimantonic ............ D3 Bronze -> D3 Silver
  • GTP_Twissy ................. D1 Silver -> D1 Gold
  • GTP_Racingworld ......... D5 Gold -> D3 Bronze
  • GTP_btcanon ............... D5 Silver -> D4 Bronze
  • GTP_Insatiable ............. D2 Silver -> D2 Gold
  • GTP_mcfizzle ............... D2 Bronze -> D2 Silver

TrialMountainCircuit_8Bannercopy.jpg

When will these races take place ?

Every Saturday at 19:00 GMT. Use this link to convert the 19:00GMT to your local timezone. The lounge will typically open approximately 1 hour before for free run practice (watch this thread for an announcement on Saturday). See event details post for each specific event.

Rome_13Bannercopy.jpg

Race Format

The races are shorter than the ‘Wednesday-races’ with a target of 25-30 minutes depending on the car and track. For some events the D-League series will used slightly reduced power cars and/or a softer tire compound as compared to the original event to make them more approachable. Tire wear / fuel consumption will be set to 'Off" and grip reduction set to "Low" in order to replicate the physics of the offline time trial exactly and also provide a more forgiving racing experience. Damage is set to light meaning pits will not be required for fuel, tires or damage.

DeepForestRaceway_14Bannercopy.jpg

I want to join but I am not a WRS member ?

This WRS-Online event hosted by 3D3 Racing is open to GTP_Registered members only. If you are not currently on the registry run the GTP_Registry qualifier and join now!

Done. Put the color in the comment box. Didn't see any other place to put it.

Nice to see this is happening 👍 Hopefully it can attract a good amount of drivers, you'll be in for some great races :)

I so want to participate, but parenting duties won't allow me at this time slot. Enjoy the 1st academy session everyone!

The prior registrants are gone. Do we need to sign up again?

Nevermind...I guess it was updating.

Happy to see people are registering. But I also want to ask the Higher division drivers who are able to help out (instruct) to put something in this thread, so we know who we can count on 👍

Is it possible to ride onboard with a driver if your watching? I saw them do it in the GT Academy but never really tried to do it while playing online. If that can be done the high Division folks can ride with people onboard and give tips such as your braking too much or your not getting on the throttle early enough. etc

- I'll test it, in a few seconds.

Edit: I don't think it's possible, sadly.

I'm not so sure on that since I get enough of that from my wife!! :crazy::ouch: :lol:

Not possible live in the online lobby as the only view is from outside the car.

In GTA you could download a ghost replay from the top 10 and then play it back yourself with any view and/or chase the ghost in your own laps. That feature is only available offline and the WRS TT replays which are posted each week could be used for that purpose already. It would be awesome if there was a ghost feature online, but there isn't.

Also, "micro lag" makes it very difficult to comment on exact brake/accelerator timing except for the most obvious things like "you are going into the corner way too hot and waiting too long to get in the gas".

Sharing brake markers, shift points and gears used for each corner is a pretty obvious way to help. If demand is there we could try to get a D1 driver to run a few lap race and save their replay and upload a video of their best example lap during that run. It would be important to get the drivers own replay as any replay of an observer would have micro-lag.

I could assist in converting the replay to video, but it would have to be an NTSC replay.

Another service that could be provided is to have one of the participating academy drivers submit a race replay and record one of their laps, upload the video post to thread and have people discuss, critique and make suggestions. We could get a list of volunteers that want their lap analyzed (make sure you are ready for constructive criticism) and pick a couple volunteers each week and rotate. Again, I would assist from the video capture standpoint with the NTSC requirement maybe someone with a PAL capture device could help out with other replays.

I could commit to one or two laps recorded, uploaded and posted each week. It's somewhat time consuming, but I think it would help.

Might be fun to do a before and after lap side by side to show the improvement. :lol:

No but there is an alternative. Some buddies and i gave each other tips at the following way.

The faster guy chases the slower guy for a couple of laps. The faster guy can see what the slower guy is doing wrong. After a couple of laps you know he's is doing it wrong structural. With that knowing the faster guy takes the lead but not on a race pace, just slowly from turn to turn and stop when necessary to explain what he did wrong and how he should do it. braking point and amount of breaking, steering point and amount of steering and acceleration moment e.d

That way i learned my way around the tracks and i helped others with it.

BTW a headset (voicechat) is a must. Explaining yourself on the chat is almost a mission impossible

I've done this before with a couple of WRS members. I think it helped :lol:.

And yes, a Mic would be really great. Don't have to go buy a Turtle Beach, a $20 Mic works just fine (like mine).

I could also download replays and act as if I'm driving them. That way it will be pretty easy to see if there were mistakes made.

I will try to make the race academy with all resolve. The only thing I can see that will prevent me from participating is my back and left hip get sore as hell when I sit in the playseat too long!!

You can always participate e.g. in the first race, skip the second and join the third again to get the rest you need with your back and hip.

As written in the OP, this is how the event will be organised :

20min - 1 or 2 mock qualifier runs (1outlap+2hotlaps) to get the feel of the pressure of having to set a best lap in only two laps.
10min - 1 real qualifier run (1out+3hotlaps) which will be used for the races further on.
30min - various drills:
Close pack slow racing (5 laps): A faster driver will lead the pack and up the pace little by little. Here you need to try and follow as closely as possible without making contact to other drivers. Position switches are allowed.
Follow the Leader (~10 laps): A faster driver leads and every lap the driver following right behind the leader will drop back to last place giving everybody a chance to run a lap right behind the leader. Other than the driver in second dropping back, postition switches are NOT allowed. Number of laps (+ 1 formationlap) here depend on number of particpants.
Close pack faster racing (5 laps): Same as the slow racing from before but a bit faster. Now, if you are able to overtake the leader, you are allowed to do so.
30-60min - some short races.

In the first hour there is plenty of room to practise on whatever you want with instructors who are there aswell, as told before, just ask.

The room will be opened at 20.00GMT but the program only starts at 21.00GMT.

I like this idea, not sure if theres a converter that can change replay but I do know some people have both versions of the game like I do the only thing is that I dont have a capture device so Id only be able to record using my phone.

This alternative isn't bad but might be a bit tricky with lagging especially if someone has very bad lagging, Ive seen people just shoot from one end of a track to another.

But I do think if the connection is good its a great idea, especially for the correct driving line around a corner

One quick question: can I participate alltough I'm in D2?
Qualified in D2, but the skill level is more D3 or sometimes D4 :)
I find this Academy program very attractive and would like to take part.
