Stewards Notes:

Tarmac rally in a super slidey AWD this week. As far as I know, we've never used compounds spread across 2 tire spectrums in the history of WRS. i.e. Race and Sports, or Sports and Comfort/Normal. Speculation is that the linear change between Normal and Sports is closer than ever, and it's certainly more controllable than 2 compounds apart within the same spectrum. I tested Comfort Soft/Hard, and it was undrivable. The laps are quick, there's only a couple features that can be tuned. Have fun. 👍
Notes courtesy of @EDK

For the online race we'll race the forward direction of AR Mini for 44 laps and then the Reverse layout for 22 laps. Points will be geared toward the forward-direction race.

In the event of a field of 13-16 drivers we will disable mics and race with one grid. With 17+ we will split the grid (SEE Lounge Splits BELOW).

Register Here

[dropbox]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/46246500/eventGT6_030_reg.png[/dropbox]

(tables will auto update approximately every 30 minutes)

Eligibility

This WRS-Online event hosted by 3D3 Racing is open to GTP_Registered members only. If you are not currently on the registry run the GTP_Registry qualifier and join now!

Registration Instructions

The following must be performed by every driver for every event:
  • Click the registration button above, fill-in and submit the online registration form (be sure to use the PSN that's listed in the registry)
  • Leave a quick note in this thread to let us know you've registered and any other comments.
The following must be performed only one time per driver (not per event):
  • Submit the 3D3 Racing Online Driver Database Entry Form. Your information will need to be verified before you are added to the db and before your ID will appear in the registered driver table above. You can view the official driver database here.
Registration Changes

If you want to change your time slot, add a time slot or update your color choices just click on the registration link and fill out the form again and submit with new values. Your last entry will override any previous entries.

Cancellations

If for some reason, after you register for the event, you are unable to attend please click the registration button above and complete the form again selecting "cancel" as your status. Please also post a note in this thread as the table above can take some time to update.

Delaying or Restarting Race Start

Once the race countdown timer has started, the race will only be restarted in these cases:
  • Multiple drivers report a black screen/hang, instead of the 3-2-1 countdown.
  • One or more drivers get disconnected before race-pace has begun ("GO" for grid-starts, end of formation lap for rolling starts).
  • Steward realizes there is a condition that would lead to an unfair or poor race experience.
Once the race countdown timer has started, the race will explicitly NOT be restarted for:
  • Latecomers, even if you've registered
  • Driver realizes he picked the wrong car parts (ie, tires) or driving options (ie, Auto tranny)
Lounge Splits **NEW**

A more formal formula will be used to determine lobby assignments.

First, every driver that confirms their registration will be ranked using an event specific handicap equal to the minimum(best) of the following:
  1. Handicap from the official registry (driver does nothing, falls back on official handicap)
  2. Handicap from the official time trial (driver included in official time trial results)
  3. Handicap computed using an unofficial offline ghost lap replay
    • Must conform to all time trial rules and be attached to a post in the online thread
    • Submitted after TT deadline on Monday @ 23:59 GMT
    • Submitted at least 8 hours prior to the event start time
  4. Handicap computed using the best clean lap of an online steward observed qualification race
    • Tire wear set to off, but otherwise conforming to online regulations
    • 5 lap race: 1 out lap, 3 timed hot laps, 1 cool down lap.
    • Scheduled with steward ahead of time (plan ahead and request via thread)
    • Completed at least 3 hours prior to the event start time

Second, we will sort the confirmed drivers 90 minutes prior to the race and divide them up evenly. If there are an odd numbers of drivers the extra driver will be assigned to the A room. At that point the stewards convene and assign a director and supporting steward for each lobby. Then at about 50-60 minutes prior to the race the room #s and driver assignments will be published to the thread.

Reserves: Drivers with reserve status at 90 minutes prior to event start will not be included in the lobby assignments, but will be listed with their applicable handicap in a reserve list. They will have to request on the thread to be added to a lobby and the assignment will be at the discretion of the stewards. In that case handicap will be used as a guide, but there are no guarantees last minute confirms/entries will get the room you want and in some rare cases may not get to race at all (e.g. if the room split is such that there is two full rooms or if the new driver would create an additional room that wouldn't be supportable with the number of stewards available). Reserves will be handled on a first to request basis using the online race thread. Do not use the google form to confirm/register at the last minute, but use a thread post instead. If you are on reserve list or not listed at all in the lobby assignments do not join a room until instructed to do so.

Abuse: Because confirming guarantees you a grid spot it's important that nobody abuses the status. If you are fairly confident (80%) you are going to make the race sign up as confirmed ahead of time, but it's important you update your status as you get more information and for sure no later than 90 minutes prior to the race. At that point if you are not 99% sure you should be on reserve. This is a courtesy we ask, not only for the admins/stewards, but also for the benefit of other drivers that have accurately stated their status. We're going to use a three strike rule. A confirmed driver that "no shows" will receive 2 strikes. A confirmed driver that cancels less than 90 minutes of the race, but before race start will get 1 strike. Three strikes in any 8 week period and the driver risks being suspended from the online participation for 8 weeks. We know "stuff happens" and real life comes first so this allows some forgiveness, but we can't manage multiple rooms effectively if we don't know at least a bit ahead of time who is going to be showing up and we can't have people taking advantage of the system to guarantee their spot at the cost of someone else.

These rules will only apply for weekly Wednesday events where more than 16 drivers are confirmed. In the case of 16 or less the situation is more relaxed as the stewards just open up one lobby, all confirmed drivers are guaranteed a spot, and reserves are given grid spots on a first come first serve basis.

Goals of these rules?
  • Creates lounges of similar paced drivers equitably without relying on honor based practice laps.
  • Allows drivers that have improved beyond their handicap to qualify in a "faster" lounge.
  • Allows drivers that did not have time to run the TT to submit an offline lap well after the official TT deadline.
  • Allows drivers to run in an online setup to qualify if they don't want to deal with offline replays. These could be done during any of the practice sessions as long as a steward is present to observe.
  • Allows drivers to fall back on registry handicap if they have no time to pre-qualify.

We hope/expect the vast majority of drivers are covered by their handicap or TT result and the other two options are only used in a few cases each week. Drivers who have not been official processed should take advantage of #3 or #4 or they will be "approximately" assigned based on our best guess of their handicap.

Also note that the above procedures will typically only apply to lobby assignments. Within each lobby there will still be a pre-race qualification session to determine grid order.

Track Boundary Guidelines
Drivers are expected to do their best to stay within track boundaries per the OLR. Mistakes happens over the course of a long race and the random off or two will be overlooked in most instances, but if a pattern of boundary abuse is observed penalties will be handed out which include 15 seconds for a "minor" pattern of abuse, 30 seconds for a "substantial" pattern of abuse, and a DQ for "complete disregard" of track boundaries. In cases where penalties may not impact the driver (e.g. DC), the penalty may be carried over to the next event and may be applied as a 5 (minor) or 10 (major) grid spot penalty.
It's up to the admins' discretion exactly what qualifies as "minor", "substantial" or "complete disregard". Going outside the rumble by a centimeter isn't as serious as a car length wide excursions into the run off area. Factors such as dirty air and traffic also come into play. If you find yourself going wide then the next lap you're expected to slow down a bit more to make sure you stay within boundaries. If you make the same mistake multiple times and you want to avoid a penalty you can always self-penalize during the race by lifting for a very brief period upon returning to the track. Continuing to hammer the throttle after repeated boundary overruns may very well end with a post race penalty.

General Guidelines:
  • Contact with walls should be avoided. Wall riding/bouncing to gain time will be penalized and/or can result in disqualification. This includes pit entry/exit.
  • Rumble/ripple strips are part of the track
  • Runoff areas are not part of the track.
  • If you overrun boundaries by accident, lift momentarily to make sure you don't gain any advantage.
  • Do not complete a pass that was made possible by going outside track boundaries.
Track Specific Guidelines:
  • Red and White rumbles and tarmac are track.
  • Do not cross the white pit-in and pit-out lines.

Standard Clean OLR Rules Apply:
  • Unless otherwise specified, all rules from the original WRS event apply.
  • You are expected to drive clean at all times as if you are racing in the WRS. All participants are required to follow the GTPlanet Online Racing Rules & Guidelines.
  • 3D3 Race Stewards (who are taking part in race, but will review the replay) reserve the right to kick out or invalidate the result of any driver from the Race Room for driving offensively. If you ignore any warnings from the stewards and are kicked out of the race room, you will not be allowed to participate in future 3D3 events.
  • Contact with walls should be avoided. Wall riding/bouncing to gain time will be penalized and/or can result in disqualification.
  • Rumble/ripple strips are part of the track
  • Runoff areas are not part of the track including green painted concrete.
  • Limit your contact with walls or objects, visible or invisible
  • No hybrids
  • No cheating of any kind
  • Nothing that goes against the spirit of the rules
  • Passing and Blocking: Aggressive blocking is not permitted, but the driver in front has the right to choose his/her line and braking point and drivers behind should respect that line. Be especially careful when you are on older tires than the competition as the speed difference may be significant. These events are "for fun" so just play nice and take a conservative rather than an aggressive approach when possible.

Sprint Points System

Points will be awarded to a driver for each race and the overall event winner determined by points.

The points earned for each race will be a function of finishing position. The first place driver gets 16 base points and base points decrease by 1 for every position back. In addition the top 3 finishers in each sprint get "podium" bonus points: 4 bonus points for first, 2 for 2nd and 1 for 3rd. For example if 11 drivers start a race:

P1 : 16 + 4 = 20
P2 : 15 + 2 = 17
P3 : 14 + 1 = 15
P4 : 13
P5 : 12
P6 : 11
P7 : 10
P8 : 9
P9 : 8
P10 : 7
P11 : 6

Drivers get points if they start the race even if they DC.

Race #2 points will be worth 1/2 (one half) of Race #1's list above

The first tie breaker is a driver's best finishing position across both sprints.
The final tie breaker is finishing order in the first race.

Fastest first based on qualification is used for the both races. Our normal procedure for qualification will be followed. Race alone with enough time to complete X laps in 5min.

There will be a 5 minute break between each sprint race to allow stewards to enter in results. You are welcome to practice between each race during this period. Please be ready to go after the break promptly so we can fit the entire event in the allocated time spot.

If spots are available in the lounges we'll allow "tardy" drivers to join after sprint 1. Drivers are also welcome to leave after 1 or 2 sprints, but please let us know if you plan to do this as it may impact our lounge splits.
Good Luck, OLR Team:gtplanet:

I'm on the fence with this one. Not too sure that a bunch of cars drifting on a tiny track is going to be very clean. With my Time Trial laps, I noticed that I was swinging the car all over the place. If anyone else was on the track with me, they would pushing up daisies with all the crazy that went down.

I'll need to do a few practice rounds for sure to see if this can work without a lot of people getting slammed off track.

and can someone explain why the n and u are in parenthesis in the title?

That's exactly what we were hoping you'd say. ;)

:P

But I need to try a forward BB for the online races, it's pretty raucous slidey with the @eclipsee AYC 110 BB 5/5 setup from the TT.

I'm running 80 YAW. Same as the TT. More is probably faster but I really don't like the side effects...
"You would say..." as in the collective "you" or you mean me? :D

Collective. :)

I'm a big fan of forcing both directions on people. When we put up reverse direction for TT's, we often hear a lot of "I don't know the track this way, it's like a different track.", or "I really don't like it in this direction" or "I've never tried it this way, and it's fun!".

A few tracks have better flow in reverse, IMO. Deep Forest is the one that stands out most to me. After that, maybe Special Stage Route 5. Tracks that go from carrying a lot of speed into twisty sections going forward, to a lot of speed in flowing sections and lower speed going into twisty sections. Means more flat out running, more fun. :D

One track that definitely is much worse in reverse is the current Rome layout. That kink leading onto the back straight in that direction is a total craps shoot.

As with all tracks in reverse, I like Rome both ways. That kink is just fine going solo. It only becomes a problem when some idiots think it is a good place to pass. There are too many people that like to force a pass where there NEVER should be a pass.

PD needs to make more reverse tracks. Imagine The Ring or Le Mans in reverse. Can someone say "awesome sauce"?

:dopey:

(sorry, this has nothing to do with the OP)

I think I'll join tomorrow, but I have a bad feeling about racing on such a tight track with such a jerky car:scared: It's either gonna be amazing or disastrous... If it is the first one, I'll join the EU race too:D

I actually think it will be amazing. Probably not much passing but very close racing.
Sadly I'll miss tomorrow as I have a bike race but might be able to do the NA.

At least I'm not the only one with reservations about the race being possibly disastrous. :nervous:

I'm surprised there hasn't been any practice rooms yet. So I made one.

I have to disagree, and my experience was in the original US GT Academy, when a 2 WD Skyline (Infiniti G in the US) was featured here.

The issue with the kink in reverse when TTing is that the corner leads onto the second longest straight on the track, so maximizing exit speed is of the most importance. You can improve your entry angle and overall cornering speed by getting as close to the right side wall as possible. But in order to do that, you have to have your right side wheels behind the curb. When you go to turn in, the behavior of the car is completely unpredictable, which is what makes the corner at the maximum possible speed a craps shoot. Like any high speed corner, easy and fine to take at something less than maximum speed. Very difficult at maximum speed, and impossible to be consistent with that silly curb there.

The reason you don't want to pass in a corner like that is that you'll lose more speed that you would if you hung back behind the slower car in front of you and maximized your exit speed onto that next straight. By going side by side through that corner, you compromise the speed of both cars to the extent that the time lost cannot be regained. And, it's a really easy way to crash.

It's a lot like turn 6 at Laguna Seca. This is from my third Chump race, second at Laguna Seca. I was not as fast on the track as I am now, I could not heel toe at the time, and I had less overall track experience. But the video illustrates a point.

You can't pass in that turn, unless the other car is exceptionally slow AND you trust them to leave room. Otherwise, it's suicide. But if you can carry more speed through the turn, even a car of similar pace to you will be helpless to keep you behind on the following straight.

I tried to link to the right time, but cannot figure out how to do it on the forum. 16 Minutes 54 Seconds is the culmination of a long battle, and more speed in turn 6 allowed me to get by.

Practice Room OPEN -- 1472-4711-0167-3382-2918 <===new room

:gtpflag:

I noticed that if I have Vehicle Tuning set as Prohibited (as stated in the OP) it will not let me in, so I set it to Allowed. I believe it has something to do with the AYC Controller. If I have this wrong, please let me know.

update -- The PS3 locked up on me. Needed to reboot. Started another room. Where did you go Animera? I was trying to learn from you. :embarrassed:

Roamer is in charge of the room now [GT6 locked up the PS3 again] but I can't seem to slide back in. I'll keep on trying.
