  • Tarmac and Red and White Rumble Strips are Track. Just don't hit the walls or run off.

This was the second combo @Gravitron and I came up with on his trip to my house. Give it a try, it's more fun than it looks on the surface.

I fondly remember these Buicks from the 80's, this car is the big brother to the Grand National (Buick GN). Believe it or not, this car was the pinnacle of US production straight line speed in the late 80's, turning in faster quarter mile times than the Corvettes and Mustangs of the day. This was a sub 14 second car on stock tires, which was quite an achievement at that time.

Viewing your T1 & T2 Time Splits:
  • You need to make sure you save the 'Save Best Lap Replay' (ghost replay), not the 'Save Replay' (See pic below)
  • To view your best lap replay, go to 'My Home' and watch the replay from there using the 'Gallery' option.
  • Live timing monitor does not work properly, so we have to use a small trick to view splits.
  • While viewing your Replay, pause the lap by hitting start, before the end of the first sector.
  • While keeping the replay paused, advance the replay, using the forward arrow on the replay HUD. This will advance the replay to the end of the first sector. That's your T1 split, write it down.
  • Advance the replay again. That will show the lap to date time on the screen, this is your first and second sector time, added together.
  • To post your T1 & T2 Splits, simply post the lap to date times that are shown in the middle of the screen. Do not try to calculate the actual split times, the Fetchbot will do that for you.

Standard Clean OLR Rules:

  • At Least 2 Tires must be in contact with track at all times.

    • In situations where contact with the track is not possible because tires are airborne (above the ground), then the run is only legal if at least two tires in-line would have made contact with the track if the car were not airborne.
    • If track contact cannot be 100% determined, then consider it dirty.

  • Rumble/ripple strips are part of the track.
  • No contact with walls or objects, visible or invisible
  • If you're not 100% sure that your lap is clean, then consider it dirty
  • No hybrids
  • No cheating of any kind,these are relaxed races and we are experienced racers, we know what times can be done,and we can read your mind. We will know.
  • Nothing that goes against the spirit of the rules.

Splits Sharing
  • WRS Participants have traditionally shared splits as a way to reveal their pace without providing the full lap time until the event deadline. Posting of splits is not mandatory, but is considered fair sportsmanship.
  • WRS Admins reserve the right to request posting of splits from members who show a pattern of avoidance or deception in this area.
  • If you fail to comply with a direct request from an admin to post splits for a current or future event, we reserve the right to disqualify your lap from the results.

Submission:
All submissions must be sent by PM (Subject title: GTP_WRS Week 163 Submission ) to (WRSFetchbot):
  • Then attach your 'Best Lap'/'Ghost' replay in zip file form. Everyone submits a replay instead of listing a lap time.
  • You will need to put something in the message body in order to begin a conversation. It doesn't matter what you put, it can even be 1 letter or symbol. Nobody but the Fetchbot is going to see it, so it's sort of pointless, anyhow.
  • You will get an automated response within 15min, letting you know whether your submission was accepted, or if you had an error.
  • If you have an error, don't panic. Just review the instructions for submission and submit again. If you are having trouble and cannot figure it out, please post your question in the race thread.
  • Users can ask the bot for the current submitted time by sending a message with the Subject: "GTP_WRS Week XX Get Entry" and any text in the body.
  • Users can delete their submitted time by sending a message with the Subject: "GTP_WRS Week XX Remove Entry" and any text in the body.
  • If you want to submit multiple times in the week that is still not a problem. Just reply to the conversation with your new time and new replay. Fetchy always uses the last submitted time as the final one.
  • See this screenshot as an example on how to submit:

Why Use GMT?:


GMT is World Time and the basis of every world time zone which sets the time of day and is at the centre of the time zone map. GMT sets current time or official time around the globe. Most time changes are measured by GMT. Although GMT has been replaced by atomic time (UTC) it is still widely regarded as the correct time for every international time zone.
Replay Checking:
  • Everyone is required to submit a replay for verification. This happens when you submit to the Fetchbot, and the replays will be visible in the leaderboard, once we've reached the event deadline
  • Participants will be expected to check each others' replays for cleanliness, for replays marked in the Results thread as (Check Needed)
  • Video replays are not accepted as a form of verification

By the way, if you guys are wondering, the 200R4 gear boxes these things had really were this bad. :yuck: :lol:

The only thing you miss out on is driving 35 or 40 MPH and having the car constantly kick in and out of overdrive.

The 3.8 Liter V6, on the other hand, is tremendous. Loads of torque and power all through the range.

They actually used the motor in stock block form for a number of years to power the Indy Lights series.

It looks like that's the engine that was in my Olds Toronado '86. :eek: When you went over 85mph the digital speedo would start flashing 85 and not tell you that you were actually going 120mph.:lol: I found the cruise control display would show the real speed. Trust me, I was 17 and totally knew what I was doing. :dunce:

Yeah, it's a base Buick motor that was developed in the 70's, but went in a bunch of GM stuff over the years.

They went and developed the 4.3 V6, which was a variant of the 3.8 Liter Chevrolet V6. That was a totally different motor, it was basically a V8 with 2 cylinders cut off the front.

If you've driven both, you will know the Buick motor is far superior.

The exhaust note says 80's to me. I exaggerate, makes me think of a custom on GTA VCS, and that's set in 1980s too.
Downshift below 3900 rpm if you don't like the rev limiter.

I don't know about Texas, but in Montana *if* you got pulled over for speeding, there were urban myths that you could hand the officer a $5-er and be on your way. I blew by a cop on I90 near Bozeman at 84mph and he decided I wasn't worth it. :lol:

Speed limits here are generally weird, and have a turbulent history. During the first gas crisis in the 70's, the government enacted a 55 MPH federally mandated maximum speed limit.

As part of that, 85 MPH speedometers were also mandated at a point, and those designs remained in place for a number of years, even after the requirement passed. More details here.

As for those state speed limits, once the federal act was repealed in 1995, states slowly began reacting. I have lived in the most conservative and some of the more aggressive states. Oregon, for example, did not have any limits over 65 MPH until last year. Much of the system in Oregon continues with a 55 MPH limit, but they now at least have 70 in the more rural areas.

I also lived in Texas before the 85 MPH limits. But I have driven on the 85 MPH toll road when visiting Austin for the F1 race. Texas also has minimum speeds posted in much of its system, the execution looks like this.

In Idaho, where I live now, there are sections of I-84 that are 80 MPH. As a matter of fact, as soon as you get about one mile east of town, you are on an 80 MPH stretch.

Montana, for a period of time, went with no posted limit. They had a limit for night time, but nothing during the day. But then the feds threatened to take away their highway money, so they relented.

And despite this, all it's technical limitations and it's cardboard box-like design elements :yuck:....which thankfully I can't see from bumper-cam :cool:. It still manages to be fun :)👍.

Should have some splits after lunch for last place :sly:.

I'd say that's exactly what makes him a benchmark :). But don't worry I know what you mean 👍. The only benchmarks I use for now are the blue and red numbers that keep popping up when I'm trying not to look at them :D.

Well, my receiver is back and operational.

Third gear is soooo long.

I like the looks of this car but the in game model doesn't do it any favors. If I was filthy rich and wanted a "project car" to work on I would likely pick this car to tinker with.

I might have 1 or two cars in my GT6 garage that I've modded and I might just buy a second one of these to mod up. Just for kicks. A Buick Regal that'll do 200MPH appeals to me. Might not turn for squat by then but, what the hell.

Full manual best sectors, not best lap cuz, it's me.

I've always had trouble with t2 at this track..

How are you guys entering the tunnel? A late apex and dive down to the rumble at the entrance to the tunnel? Or hugging the inside all the way.

And the left hand sweeper, are you staying around mid track or hugging the inside?

And this car sounds like an auto tranny when I shift gears,kinda annoying. @EDK if you could fix that right quick I'd appreciate it. Thanks.;)

I realize your post is somewhat in jest, but it got me thinking. Looking at the gear ratios, I'm pretty sure they were trying to model exactly that.

Say what you want about PD, but they got the transmission in this car right. Like, exactly right.

I didn't realize it was a Regal...I already knew about the similarities of the Regal and the Toronado in that timeframe, their engine sharing now makes even more sense.
