jeez man......i just lost HALF of my 300 dollar gains. i'm hoping to god that now that my stock plummeted, EVERYONE will buy it, and send it well over my buying price. i can only hope so....

if you're not gonna go balls out, why try? it's fake money. take advantage of that fact.

but, to each his own.

I think that this is off. They think oil will hit $105 a bbl.

Blockbuster may owe you money. 48 states sued them for false advertising. They owe those states some money and they owe anybody who was charged the retail price of the video after renting for 7 days. They said they didn't have late fees, but they charged the renter the full retail price of the product if it was returned after 7 days of renting.

Thank you for the info. Oil prices may reach market equilibrium at that price. However, if that were to happen, I'm sure the government would issue a price ceilings on gasoline/oil prices just like they did in 1973. I think they kep the price of gasoline at around $0.57/gallon when the market equilibrium at the time for gasoline was closer to $1.50/gallon. Sometimes government intervention in a free market is a good thing.

The last time I went to a Blockbuster, I was told about this. Thank you for the information, though.

Is a two for one stock split a split where 2 stocks are "combined" to get 1 or is 1 stock split to make two stocks for every stock? I know this is probably a stupid question.

Edit: Nevermind, I looked it up. Each share becomes two shares.

AIG is in the hole 1.7 billion. Accounting errors overstated its book value by $1.7 billion.

I read some article online today that said oil went to $90 a bbl in 1980's and then they put a ceiling to the price.

I put this here mainly for people who were ripped off rather than stock info, hope that was ok. Blockbuster said that they may, still, charge a restocking fee for a return 30 days after the rental.

MCI is re-evaluating the deal with Verizon. They may go with Qwest Communications.

There is also a process called the "reverse stock split."

AIG is in the hole 1.7 billion. Accounting errors overstated its book value by $1.7 billion.

That just goes to show you how corrupt Wall Street is. On March 14th, the CEO and CFO of the company stepped down. That's when the stock price started falling. Then the company was probed for possible "improper accounting" and then :dunce: . $1.7 billion disappeared. If a CEO leaves suddenly, it's usually a bad sign -- but when BOTH THE CEO AND CFO leave AT THE EXACT SAME TIME, consider that a
BIG RED FLAG.

I read some article online today that said oil went to $90 a bbl in 1980's and then they put a ceiling to the price.

Oil prices have never reached $90/bbl. The highest intraday prices for oil/bbl was just over $57. That $90 figure was possibly the market equilibrium price of oil given the supply/demand situation at the time, but I cannot say for sure because I would have to read the article. If you adjust for inflation, 1981 had the highest oil prices of $66.20/bbl ($31.77 at the time).

I'm aware -- but the last thing this company needs is more bad news. :sly:

This is taking too way too long. They need to just hurry up and merge. Thanks for the scoop, BTW.

cardude2004
So, is a 2 for 1 stock split where you have 1 stock split to make two stocks, or is it where they merge 2 stocks to get 1?

2-for-1 stock split is where for every share you have "splits" into 2 shares.

EX: You have 50 shares of XMSR. XMSR announces 2-1 split. You now have 100 shares.

A reverse split works the opposite way.

EX: You have 400 shares of SIRI. SIRI announces a 1-10 reverse split. You now have 40 shares.

When stock prices are too low, companies will try to to a reverse split in order to elevate the price. When stock prices are too high, companies will do a split in order to lower the price -- which attracts more investors -- which usually drives the prices back up again.

I didn't read it right, it was the inflation adjustment to todays money.

Oil prices are 67 per cent higher than a year ago, but still well below the inflation-adjusted high of more than $90 a barrel set in 1980.

Thanks!

I did a little bit of research myself and came across:
Advanced Magnetics Inc. (AVM)
Illumina Inc. (ILMN)
Acrongenomics Inc. (AGNM.OB)
Sono Tek Corp. (SOTK.OB)
Isonics Corp. (ISON)
Nanophase Technologies Corp. (NANX)

I'm probably going to suggest AMD and Intel as well, although he's somewhat looking for the cheaper priced stocks right now. Thanks again.

Acrongenomics Inc. Further Develops Its Nano-JETA Platform
Friday March 11, 9:30 am ET

ATHENS, Greece--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 11, 2005--Acrongenomics Inc. (OTCBB:AGNM - News) a Research and Development company focused in the field of nanobiotechnology is exploring future prospects by evaluating the technology behind existing implementations of PCR, ELISA and Real Time PCR.
According to our market research, current applications reveal certain limitations, including problems with efficiencies and cost effectiveness. Acrongenomics Inc. endeavors to overcome these limitations by introducing nanotechnology into molecular biology. Nanotechnology is beginning to generate substantial new insights into how biological systems function and is believed to hold potential advances in both the pharmaceuticals and health care industries.

Acrongenomics Inc. believes that its first application, the Neo-EpCAM(TM) Cancer detection kit provides enhanced performance as a result of its ongoing Nano-JETA(TM) platform, which combines nanotechnology with molecular biology and applies in PCR, enzyme reactions - including universal ELISA Detection Systems - and Real Time PCR.

In total, 97 different tissue samples from patients suffering from laryngeal cancer, and 82 different tissue samples from patients suffering from breast cancer were used for standardization, evaluation, validation and characterization of our Neo-EpCAM(TM) cancer detection kit. A characterization and evaluation report for Neo-EpCAM(TM) has been completed in universal PCR and ELISA.

By advancing our know-how in nanotechnology, we managed to apply our Nano-JETA(TM) platform on the detection of more markers and viral targets such as Neo-EpCAM(TM), HER1, HER2, HER3, and HER4, with the incorporation of the appropriate primers. A characterization and evaluation report has been completed in PCR and ELISA.

750 tests were performed in colon and breast cancer samples
750 tests were performed in colon and laryngeal cancer samples
250 tests were also performed in breast and laryngeal cancer samples
In essence, Nano-JETA(TM) Platform shows a potential in eliminating all known limitations of current technologies. These developments led to the reshaping of both Conventional PCR and ELISA, to Nano-JETA(TM) PCR, and Universal Nano-JETA(TM) ELISA respectively without compromising sensitivity, specificity and reliability.

Realizing the potential applications of our Nano-JETA(TM) Platform is of crucial importance in understanding its diversity. There is a large number of possible permutations waiting to be explored, and therefore Acrongenomics has evolved Nano-JETA(TM) Platform in Real-Time PCR application for "markers" such as EpCAM, HER1, HER2, and vEGF by conducting clinical validation trials in 400 samples of breast, colon, lung and ovarian cancer anticipating completion by the end of March 2005. Preliminary indications reveal precision, accuracy, specificity and reproducibility.

By evolving our proprietary technology, we have currently achieved a typical Real-Time PCR in 47 seconds without compromising sensitivity, specificity and reliability.

Nano-JETA(TM) platform as an application for Real Time PCR uses common Real Time PCR equipment revealing qualitative results even from the first cycle reaching maximum performance at the eighth cycle.

In addition, with such achievements and in order to strengthen our position, we have decided to conduct independent validation studies in U.S.

Molecular diagnostic testing is the fastest-growing segment of the in vitro diagnostics industry. The last four years, clinical market for molecular diagnostic products has increased from $1 billion in 2000 to 2,8 billion in 2004 and sales are expected to exceed $5 billion by 2008 (Biotechnology Associates). So profitable is the molecular diagnostics market that pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies are highly focused in developing tests that can be used to guide prescribing, and individualize patient treatment

It happens. It did get this from the article, though.

a U.S. investment bank suggested oil prices could rise as high as $105

The market could possibly reach equilibrium at that price. :ill:

The information about the inflation adjustment to today's money is INCORRECT. Even adjusted for inflation, oil prices NEVER reached $90/bbl.

Grim news:

The major US stock indices hit a 2005 low. Apple Computers issued an earnings forecast warning that scared investors in conjunction with the fear that the economy is slowing down. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 10,278.75 -- it's worst close since November 2nd when it hit 10,137.05. Anxiety about interest rates and the economy as a whole is the culprit for today's dismal price performance. Crude oil dropped below below $50/bbl earlier today, but went back up to $51.13/bbl.

Apple dropped 9.2% or nearly $4/share to $37.26.

General Motors Corp. (thank goodness I sold it when I did) plunged to a 12-year low after United Auto Workers officials indicated they were not willing to reopen a labor contract to negotiate lower health care costs. They lost 5.9 percent, or $1.67, to $26.66. :ill:

well, my ffiv thing is shot to hell.

i don't know why i re-bought it after i sold it at peak.

Would this weekend be the most opportune time to buy stocks?

Apple is at the cheapest I've seen it for a while.

I would prefer you purchased stock during market hours... otherwise you'll have issues with liquidity.

Apple is at the cheapest I've seen it for a while.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a stock just because it "looks" cheap. GM "looked" cheap when it was trading at $36/shr from as high as $48/shr. GMs closing prices, as noted earlier hit $26.66. This article should provide some insight as to whether or not Apple is good buy at the moment.

Apple lost me about $400 in the past three market open days. I hadn't checked my stocks for a while and didn't realize that I didn't have a stop loss in place. $400 later ..

I'm workin my way back up though. Good thing this ain't real money.

Can orders hold up other orders?

IE, if I place a "market close" order for, oh...let's say Atari, but I have a standard "market" orders to buy other stocks, will VSE wait to process the "market close" before it processes the other orders?

The market orders are processed first, but the quotes are delayed 20 minutes so you won't see your purchase until after that. For example, if you buy a stock for the market price at 3:44pm, after the market closes, you'll see it at/around 4:04pm. However, if you place a market close order, the prices are determined by the closing price of the stock -- therefore they are the last to be processed.
