Jordan (or anyone else who might know),

Is there any way to get RSS feeds from the GTP forums? I'm specifically interested in getting one for the Weekly Race Series forum in order to further reduce my productivity at work ;)

Thanks.

There's a Insider RSS feed, but the link is messed up right now...

Probably because of the server move.

Good to know :)

But I'm really looking for one for the forums ... I'm hoping that it's built into invision board (I think that's what gtp runs on), and someone can just give me the appropriate link.

No, sorry, there are no RSS feeds of forum content. We use vBulletin, not Invision. I've never used RSS and don't have much interest in it, so I've never bothered modifying vB for it.

Ahh, ok. Too bad. Could put it on the list for future upgrades? :D

This forum now has an RSS feed, but I have never gotten RSS to work with FireFox. All I see is the XML code when I click on it.

FF is supposed to be RSS-ready, so what do I need to do to get these working with it?

Cheers,

You click on the orange box (it has "RSS" in it, or radio wave lookin' things) in the address bar, add it to your Bookmarks Toolbar, and click ok.

Jordan, I'm really enjoying the RSS feature.

I was just wondering if it's possible to get the feeds of your subscribed threads. But I guess RSS doesn't work that way? :boggled:

I was thinking that. It'd be nice to see new posts using it, rather than just topics :)

I wonder how much extra bandwidth it is using. Some people talk about their RSS feeds and they complain that they are using a lot of bandwidth because programs won't check to see if the feed has been updated, the program just downloads that same version of the feed over and over and over again.

I don't ever really use RSS myself.

Also, Invision board can only export the first post of each thread, if you want it to, and you get to choose how many threads it exports, and how often it updates.

I guess I wasn't clear enough.

When I do click on the RSS button, all I get is the XML code dispalyed. It doesn't work the way I think it should work and the way everyone describes how it should work.

No, you don’t need a web-based syndicator to use RSS – Firefox has it built in. MasterGT is wondering why Firefox isn’t using the built-in syndication.

MasterGT: I’m not sure why it’s not working for you. Are you using Firefox 1.5? When you click the radio icon, you shouldn’t get a page load at all – you should get a dialog box that comes up and asks you where to bookmark the feed. You’re clicking the icon in the addressbar, right? (Where the URL is; not anywhere on the site itself.)

I wasn't saying you had to use an online syndicator, and I didn't know that FF would syndicate RSS either.

BTW, this is off topic, but do I have a user title in FF, or does it appear blank, like in IE?

No, that's part of the problem. I don't get the icon in the URL addressbar, only on the page.

I also have the latest edition of FF.

Very strange. I also have the latest version of FF and it has no trouble detecting the RSS feed (indicated by the icon in the address bar).

If it's any consolation, it is working properly in the latest Netscape, downloaded today. I don't normally use Netscape, though, so that's why I was asking about FF.

I wonder if there is anything installed on my computer which may be interfering.

I am in the midst of recovering from a dead hard drive and freshly reinstalled FireFox. RSS feeds don't work any differently. I haven't reinstalled Netscape yet, but I presume they will work properly, as they did recently.

Cheers,
