I'm spending a lot of time on site rendering speed for GTPlanet's next major revision, and I want to know your subjective opinions on how quickly GTPlanet loads for you now compared to other sites that you visit. Please vote in the poll above, and of course I would appreciate it if you could elaborate on your vote in the discussion below. Thanks, guys!

I compared mine to my own team forum, Adrenalin Factor and Xtreme Gaming Network (3 sites I visit often apart from here) and to be honest I noticed no difference in loading times between all 4. ;)

Definitely loads quite fast, even on my phone – I’d say slightly faster than most other “heavier” sites I use. The single biggest impediment in terms of how quickly I can practically use the site is actually the Forum Jump. :p

GTP is a lot faster than many sites I visit, mainly because of GTP's clean theme without any unnecessary rubbish on the pages. 👍

Other than perhaps when there is some really major news or event I've never had an issue with GTPlanet loading times. Forums come up quickly even when displaying 100 posts a page - it's a pleasure to use. I like the way the pages are uncluttered. In the future I'm likely to use the site on a mobile more and more so any further speed improvements would always be appreciated.

I voted it is as fast as the other sites I visit. But there is a major reason for this, the speed of my internet, if I had faster internet I am sure it would be a bit faster but because I dont I guess all sites are limited to a certain loading speed. If they can load at my internets top speed then that is all I can ask for, GTP is definitely one of those sites! Just curious, any clues as to when we may see the new GTP?

It's fine from my home and work PC's for both the news and forum but I find it a bit slower on my phone than some of the other sites I browse from it.

The mobile theme loads the news page pretty quick but it would be good if it had some small images from the articles without opening the article itself. The mobile theme doesn't have a link to the forum so I have a separate bookmark for that as it takes a very long time to turn the mobile theme off, load the standard news page and then click the link for the forum.

Ideally I would like the option to have the standard news page as the default option from my phone but to be less data heavy and therefore load quicker.

BTW on my phone I’m with Orange 3G in the UK using Opera Mini, at home I use Firefox and have 8mg broadband and at work IE8.

Thanks for a great site Jordan, looking forward to the update.

As a premium member i can't really judge the speed compared to any other forum i visit due to the removal of adverts that premium membership brings. After almost 6 years here i'd find it hard to be objective about it. I'll always compare other forums with here rather than the other way around. I do think that the lack of signature banners is one of the biggest reasons why pages load quickly, look clean and can be easily read though.

I compared loading speeds on a couple of sites I also visit and I didnt really notice any significant difference... I voted for option 2.

For me it's generally faster than other sites, thank goodness.:)

GTPlanet is faster than most websites I regularly visit. It's definitely the fastest forum I visit, by far.

Faster, but only after I purchased GTPremium. However it was fast on very rare occasions before I bought premo.

It is pretty fast. It is easily faster than the Bikeradar forums which have a loading screen after you make even a "Quick" reply.
The only thing that was pretty slow was Jay's FSX screenshots - although that's because my internet is being horribly slow at the moment.

If ping is anything to go by, I just ran a test between GTP, imageshack, IGN and google and GTP's was the best, even if only by 4ms.

GTP is really fast, both on my MBP and my iPhone. But this may be due to the premium account, with no ads. I always notice that sites that use ads are a lot slower.

Thanks so much for all the feedback guys, please keep it coming! 👍

Just curious, any clues as to when we may see the new GTP?
That's a good question, but I don't know the answer. I've worked on it a few hours a day since the beginning of the year, so it's coming along nicely, but I still can't put a date on it. My personal goal is to have it up before E3, and hopefully the new improvements will encourage all the new visitors to stick around.

Thanks for the heads-up on that. I had only tested the mobile theme with Mobile Safari on my iPhone (where a link to the Forums is available), but that wasn't showing up in Opera Mini. Thanks to Apple approving Opera Mini in the App Store yesterday, I was able to fix this so you will be able to go straight to the forums now.

GTP is generally fast, every now & then I do get problems with the page not fully loading. I did bring this to your attention previously & if I go back a page then try to reload it usually works.

Sometimes the linked YouTube videos take a while to buffer but that happens all the time on YouTube.

I'm using a MacBook and Firefox 3.6.3

its fast, its definitely not slow but there are a few sites that are faster but those sites are not consistent like GTplanet is consistently fast

It loads very fast compared to other gaming forums. That could be because GTP users are not allowed to have their PSN cards or other gamercard infomation in their signature. Each page on GTP has 20 posts, so if we did have PSN cards in our sigs, it be like downloading 20 images.

I would say it's about the same as other sites I go to. The only slowdowns I ever have is when I'm downloading something or someone else is on my network(both of which aren't of you're doing).

Just promise us that the new GTPlanet won't be a mess like the new PSN forums are visual wise.

It's faster than most of the others. Compared with Facebook for example, it's around twice to three times as fast on my PC.

I find the site nice and fast in Firefox and Chrome, much faster than a lot of gaming sites because those pages tend to be so congested with stuff. I like the simple (but not overly simple) layout with the light colors too, please don't change that too much!

With a whole lot of stuff here to load up at once, it is fast to come up with so much information, in once. In once have I mention.?

Also one factor that is different for me is that I have disabled the advertisements I am using google chrome and there is an extension to block advertisements

I've worked on it a few hours a day since the beginning of the year

(Where's that jaw-drop smiley that I've seen before? It isn't on the "More Smilies" page, as far as I can tell.)

Everyone always said that you were very busy, but I had no idea that it had so much to do with the site! Spending hours per day is a phenomenal effort. 👍

I know that you're planning to make aesthetic improvements, but honestly, I can't imagine how the forums could look much better than they currently do. They may look slightly outdated, but they're fantastically easy to read. I'm consistently horrified whenever I visit another forum because the layout and color scheme are always bad. I'm sure that you'll manage to improve it even further, though. :)
