GTPlanet VIR Grand West Lightning Lap Board

Yes, yes, we've shamelessly borrowed the title from Car & Driver's annual event here.

:D

With the new Porsche expansion pack, we welcome Virginia International Raceway to Forza. This event will take place on the Grand West layout. I won't ramble on for much more, as this all should seem familiar to anybody that's enjoyed the other two hot lap boards in this section:

GTPlanet Lime Rock Hot Lap Board
GTPlanet Nürburgring Hot Lap Board

Rules:
  • The "Mod" system cannot be used (obviously).
  • All times must be leaderboard-clean. If that exclamation comes up, the run is dirty.
  • "Stock" means completely box-fresh. No tune changes, not even tire pressure.
  • You may submit as many times as you like, as often as you like.
  • If you've improved a time for an existing car, please make a new post about it.
  • In the event of a tie, the car with the lower PI will be placed further up the board. If the PI levels are identical, whichever time was posted first will be listed first.
  • We run on the honour system. If your time is reasonably challenged, however, please be ready (and able) to provide proof of the lap time.
  • Have fun!
Submissions:

New to FM6: Please include your HP and Weight in submissions!

Please post your times in the thread. If you've updated a particular car's time, post as a new post instead of editing - we might miss it otherwise! The submission format is as follows:

xx:xx.xxx - (Year) (Make) (Model) - xxx HP - xxxx LBS - (FF/FR/MR/RR/4WD) - PI - Username - Input Device

Please follow the formatting: colon and period in the right place for the time, spaces in the HP and LBS (along with all caps). Oh, and no comma in the weight!

If you'd like to go the extra step, you could save me some time and colour format them too:

X Class
P Class
R Class
S Class
A Class
B Class
C Class
D Class
E Class

I was hoping you'd make a lap time board for VIR :P
I'll get onto to doing some laps later.

The Speedster is great for sighting laps, but I probably should've had a middle step or two between it and the 4.0. That thing is such a blast around VIR. The Climbing Esses are a tightrope walk in something this quick, and you can do it with just some strategic lifts of the throttle if you line up right. There's so much more nuance in the cars than in FH2, it's like meeting them all over again. You really have to work that weight balance to get the most of the car.

The lap plays to the usual issue of comparing real life to the games: I'm as fast in the GT3 as C&D managed in the 918. The 991 GT3 is way back at 2:50. I don't put any weight in those sorts of comparisons, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Going to have some lunch before tackling a few more cars here.

@Ialyrn - Seems you made a mistake on the race car's stats. I've fixed them now for the board. No commas! :P

@SlipZtrEm sorry about that, I was in a rush to get to the cinema. Just seen deadpool. Most awesome film ever!!!!!

It's a great one, absolutely!

Wow, is that car a chore to drive fast. It is a lot of hard work, which is highly unusual for me to say. The only other car I have ever had issue with driving in Forza, is the Hennessy Venom. The suspension by default on this version of the 911, is just pure slop. I will be toying with this one me thinks, as it certainly needs a tune on it. So expect a modified time at some point.

Quick Question: Do you need the Porsche Expansion to race on this track?

Quick Question: Do you need the Porsche Expansion to race on this track?
Unfortunately, yes. The only issue I hold with the expansion to be fair. Besides that however, it is actually good value for money. £16 for 21 cars, a track, and extra single player and multiplayer portions separated from the original sp/mp modes

That's annoying as it looks like a really fun track to race (and do hotlaps) on, but I don't have any plans to get the Porsche Expansion as of yet.

Had to take my favourite car as of late to lap this track first, what a challenging track to put in a good lap! There are a couple of corners I just haven't figured out yet but really enjoying the circuit so far.

Got sidetracked earlier while trying to do some assignment work and ended up watching some old IMSA GT racing which reminded me of what a pleasant drive this car is, I plan to try out the other cars in it's class some time soon to see how they compare.

@Im_Lukas Awesome times you have there, especially for the Audi.

----------------------

I went a little crazy after going for the "Forest Fire" achievement on the VIR full layout. I decided to use the Mclaren MP4/4 as my weapon of choice, and I got the achievement within 3 laps...... So I decided to take the car out around the Grand West layout we are using here, and spent the last 2 hours+ just driving around there in that car. Honestly, they are a match made in heaven!!

This tells me I'm learning the track pretty quickly. The Miata being faster than the Camaro makes me think the Jalpa should be somewhere in the middle, as it's a halfway-house between the handling-oriented Mazda and the powerhouse Chevy. It being the fastest, I must be getting the hang of this layout. So I'll probably revisit the Camaro tomorrow.

I came here and had this post ready and setup for the 4 times I was going to put on the leaderboard, but I have done 50ish laps of VIR (iirc) on a couple different variations now, and yet I still can't get a clean lap. :nervous::lol:

02:31.465 - 1994 Nissan #75 Cunningham Racing 300ZX - 780 HP - 2705 LBS - FR - 832 - lukas2121 - Controller

All of these were faster than the Audi on the straights with the Nissan (unsurprisingly) being the fastest, however the Nissan was let down by poor handling in comparison to the others. Once I set that time in the RX-7 I didn't think the Cougar would beat it but it did by a healthy margin and there's probably a good chunk more to take off that time, possibly reaching mid 27s. The Audi was the easiest to drive and IMO the most enjoyable to lap from this class of cars.

And I couldn't resist giving the Rolls-Royce Wraith a quick go around this track  (modified):

My first time trying the Grand West variation and it's a lot of fun. The car is stupid fast, I think I hit 208 on one of the straights. It's a Raceboy tune. That time can be improved on a lot, so you can laugh at it if you want. I plan on using this car a lot on different tracks. I also plan on trying a lot of different cars on Grand West, and getting to know the track better. 👍

Tell me about it. I've been trying out each ribbon today and I've not raced a duff one yet. Getting to sample cars as diverse as the Renault Clio Williams, Cunningham 300ZX and the Auto Union Type D at such an impressive circuit is beyond awesome.

The boost on the 300ZX in second gear is hilarious. It's quite sane and then bang, have a dollop of boost, usually just before a corner or just exiting one. I love it.

I still can't get over how easy to drive the One:1 is, it feels as fast as it's stats suggest but I expect a bit more drama when trying to put the power down. And the Caparo is some great fun around this track, quite a few corners where it feels like balancing on a knifes edge.

I'm not the fastest driver by any means, but I do love throwing cars like this around like they're touring cars. Getting two wheels off the ground through the Climbing Esses is addictive.

Modified with the Ford parts to give it the classic FF nose cone and no rear wing. No performance or rolling stock upgrades.

I could possibly knock it down further, but I'm not sure how to do it without setting it to say 10 laps in Free Play. So I'm only running 2 laps and the pressure is on to lose time on the flying lap. Can you see leaderboards after Trial runs?
