Can it really be true? GTPlanet is approaching the registration of its 10^5th member?

Well, yes it is. And so, like the 2 millionth post thread, started by ferrari_chris, I'd like to encourage, by way of competition, guesses as to when the 100,000th member registers...

Simply post your guess as to when the 100,000th member registers, in hh:mm, dd/mm/(yy) format and GMT time (note to Brits: GMT is BST-1). It is important to note that there will be TWO 100,000th members (possibly more if either member 100,000 is banned). There will be the 100,000th registration - Member #100,000 - and the 100,000th registered member. Currently there are 99,786 registered members and 99,909 members have registered. This is due to banninations and the like.

For your information...
GTPlanet has been in existence, in this form, since August 11th 2001. That's 6 years, one month and one day (2223 days).
99,909 (99,786) members since then is an average of 44.94 (44.88) members per day, or 1.87 (1.87) per hour.
With 91 (214) members to go, that's 2 days, 0 hours and 35 minutes (4 days, 18 hours and 25 minutes) remaining.

However, it was noted 12 months ago that there were 91,000 members, roughly. We've acquired very nearly 9,000 members in just over 12 months - 24.66 members per day or 1.03 per hour. At that rate we need 3 days, 16 hours and 34 minutes (1 week, 2 days, 3 hours, 52 minutes).

But, so far this month we've had 156 members register. That's a rate of just 13 per day - or 0.54 per hour. We'd need one whole week exactly (2 weeks, 2 days, 11 hours, 5 minutes).

Feel free to factor these into your guesses...

G-g-g-g-g-g-g-go!

Current member count:
1100GMT, 12/9/07 - 99,909 (99,786)
1000GMT, 13/9/07 - 99,926 (99,803)
1030GMT, 17/9/07 - 99,890 (100,013) (something of a cull...)
1030GMT, 19/9/07 - 99,924 (100,047)
1200GMT, 20/9/07 - 99,941 (100,064)
1100GMT, 21/9/07 - 99,952 (100,075)

 Good active member we have there.

That's the problem with the member list - how many of the 99k+ members have actually posted anything and how many have posted anything in the past 5 years?

GTP has appox 75,404 'members' who have never posted.

I'll say that the 100,000 registrant will register on 20/09/2007 at 20:00GMT.

Member #100,000 = 0800 GMT, 18/09/07

100,000th reg member = 0600 GMT, 26/09/07

I just hope it isn't another Public Secrecy account :p

Will there be sirens and flashing lights? What about fireworks, I like fireworks.

You know it is Oktoberfest time, maybe we can buy him/her a case of tasty bier. If he/she doesn't want it I will take it.

Do you have Oktoberfest over there too? That's the only thing Blumenau is known for here in Brazil.

Or are you talking about the original Oktoberfest of Munich?

And if we reach 99,999 registered members and suddenly the moderators start to ban members that have registed more than a year ago and that never posted?:scared:

Isn't Blumenau's Oktoberfest modeled after Munich's?

Americans treat Oktoberfest the same way we treat St. Patrick's Day and Cinco de Mayo: Another culture is celebrating with beer, let's join them!!!

How much American's participate usually depends on the local German heritage. In Louisville, KY we actually have a Germantown, so there is actually a small local festival, but many bars will have Oktoberfest celebrations and sales. In fact, after work tonight I am headed to my favorite bar for an Oktoberfest kickoff party.

He he, nice idea *writes it down for later* - seriously, though... that won't happen since every ban is documented and 'on the record' so-to-speak. To my knowledge, nobody has ever been banned without good reason. Fortunately, non-posting is not a bannable offence... yet...

Yeah, ours is inspired on Munich's.

Hehe, so your Oktoberfest actually starts in September. Well, like you said it's a nice excuse to have lots of beer.

This got me thinking, if I'm correct, members will not be deleted from the boards, so even they got banned, their name will not be deleted from the board, doesn't that mean that even they get banned, they're still "contributing" to the member count?

Sorry for the quick off-topic
