Why is that??

By your take, no model with an update can be nominated?? So no BMW, Mercs, Audi´s or just about any car at all goes??

The all new TT premiered during 2006 and that´s it!

Maybe I didn't express myself right. I'm suggesting we vote for cars which have been modified this year or cars that are completely new. The BMW 335 is a good example because (I believe) there wasn't one last year, but the BMW 320 (for another example) wouldn't count because the changes from this year's to the previous one's are minor.

Well, I'd say the 335 is a new engine, but the 3-series coupe, on the other hand....

And the TT...that's all new.

I think i'm gonna second the Aura's nomination. It's really the only car introduced for '07 that I really, really like. (Since the Charger was introduced mid-'05)

If there is still confusion about what qualifies, please let me clarify:

1) The car can be an all-new model, introduced for 2006, something that may not have been sold in country-X before, or has been completely redone for the new year. Cars like the Fit, Rondo, Rabbit, Aura, and XK come to mind here.

2) The car can also be one that has been signifigantly updated, making it almost a "new" car, but not quite. Models like the Aveo, RS4, GT500, G6 Convertible, Mazdaspeed 3, etc would all qualify here.

Also please do not forget that we are only talking about cars, or car-based vehicles here. This would make your average, coupe, hatch, sedan, wagon, and even crossover and minivan acceptable here.

Corvette Z06.

Do I really need to explain it??
New engine, use of composites and lightweight metals, and low price.

(It was introduced in Q3 2005 as a 2006 model, does it count?)

Technically, no it doesn't make the cut given that it came out in 2005, not 2006. Sure, it is a 2006 model, but the problem is that most car companies debut their newest models about 2/3 of the way through the year.

Sorry, but its a no-go. Everyone knows I would have nominated it if it was the case...

I thought both the Magnum and Charger were introduced in '05. Am I wrong? I voted WRX because it was the car that most tickled my fancy out of the group. Looking back, I probably would have voted Magnum (two words He Mi  lol) but I figured if I was gonna protest its eligibility that would be hypocritical.

Whoa there just a second, there are two seperate things going on here.

First, the wagons are for the "Best Wagon/Estate" competition that has been held over the past nine or so days.

Second, the "Best Car 2006" thread is open to all nominations at the moment, and that will end tomorow shortly after 11PM EST.

For pity's sake, somebody nominate the CAYMAN! I've used my nomination already!

No, It was eligible for the "wagons" thread.

The Charger was introduced Mid-05 as an '06, though it might as well have been an '05-and-a-half. The Magnum was introduced for the '05 model year.

...I may just have to stick it in there anyway, especially after Motor Trend nixed it because it is "too expensive" to be a part of the competition. Hmmm, didn't stop the Mercedes GL from winning "SUV" of the year...

So at least for pitty's sake, I'm going to exercise executive order and put her in there... She deserves it!

Well, since i really haven't nominated anything....

and It is the sexiest damn thing Porsche's made in awhile...

I'll adopt the Cayman as my Nominee.

(Wow, took me two days to get one...)

I agree that it deserves a nomination but I fail to see how anyone thinks it looks sexy, fromt he rear at least and especaially when compared to other Porsches.

I still haven't decided my nomination, there's nothing new that really strikes me as being so groundbreaking worthy of being nominated yet. there are some great car don't get me wrong, but most of them haven't been a notable step up from models available last year ect. The Audi TT probably would deserve it if you take into account the impact it will have and the same success it will be. It's not the best value for money car out this year, but it will be a huge success and it will likely influence alot of other cars in the future. I do hope I can think of a nomination before this thread closes, but I'm finding too many reasons to not nominate cars.

There aren't a lot of great choices out there, I'd definitely agree there. But it may be because some models greatly overshadow others in some cases.

RE: Cayman not sexy? I guess it depends on your point of view. The rear end is quite a shock if your worldview of Porsche is the 911... whoa! A car's supposed to have hips?

But in-the-metal, I find the petite little Porsche quite attractive. It effectively conveys the sense of classic sports car that the slightly frumpier Boxster, with its more staid lines, doesn't quite pull off, although I'm finding the current Boxster a good-looking, clean design.

The important thing, though, is that the Cayman looks, sounds and works like a sports car should. Sure, it's not a locomotive express like many newer cars, nor does it have the playfulness of some of its competitors, but it's a pure, simple, and honest-to-goodness sports machine.

----

The Audi TT... well, still not perfect, but it's such a great leap over the last TT, both in style and ability, that it deserves some kudos.

----

So... no one's going to come in for Ferrari? :D

How come no one's voted for the Audi R10 TDI?

I guess because it's a racing car. Although the rules probably don't stipulate 'road cars only' - the spirit of these polls is for road cars.

awww...

In other subjects, your new avatar has nothing to do with the Cracker I think of when I see you around.
