Welcome to the GTPLMS preseason event at Grand Valley Speedway. This should be an interesting trial run as it's the final chance to test your car choices and also see how strong the field is - enjoy!

General Information and Regulations

All rules, regulations, car specifications, and races are controlled by GTPLMS sanctioning body, GTMSA. Any and all questions should be directed to GTMSA officials (namely me ABud) and officials will do their best to answer in a timely and accurate manor.

All drivers must run at the specified weights and horsepower settings provided by GTMSA for each round. Horsepower and/or weight settings are adjusted for competitive reasons each round based on finishing positions from previous rounds.

• Standard Online Racing Rules Apply.
• No Cheating, hybrids, etc. You must run the car specifications I give you
• Try keeping at least 2 wheels on course. Long races = small mishaps, but absolutely NO shortcuts
• No wall-riding as well. Combined with penalties, this will slow you down considerably, so don't do it.
• All decisions by GTMSA officials are final

• 2 points for finishing within 103% of race winning time
• 1 point for finishing outside 103% of race winning time

Since I had the day off from school today and leave for National Science Bowl (nerd central ) early Thursday morning, I've done both of my races and am about to submit them. My GTS race was really sloppy (many wall contacts and offs, but luckily no penalties), and if I win, it will be pretty narrow. But my LMP race was actually really good - very consistent laps and almost no major errors, with five excursions to concrete runoff areas being the closest I got to going off-track, and only minor AI brushes (no wall contact at all!). So I feel pretty good about actually having a chance to beat east, especially with what for me was insane longevity for the hard tires: seven laps!

Here's hoping the added horsepower can give me a few fewer seconds on my laptimes. It'll also be interesting to see what tire combo can best for the Camaro given it's rep.

Hey guys,

I'm really new to this kind of stuff and i just stumbled across this event and it caught my eye. I understand some of what's going on but not sure really sure if I do or not ! Is the car selection limited to what I currently see in the entry list ? Is there a set of additional rules and guidelines posted somewhere else ? Do I just run the race as described and send the results (as listed) in to you ? I'm a bit confused about the points allocation .... is there more than 1 event ? Could somebody give me some more info please

You could only of that with either of the Pescarolo's running on a Hard/Hard strategy (Those cars have the best tire wear in all of LMP!). Every other car is around seven to eight laps, give-or-take.

Meanwhile, i'll have to run this race at least three times, just to see which car i'll choose to race in LMP...

on lap 6 I am all over the place...

I've spent the last few hours trying to get a race time in, only for them all to be ruined by spinning AI cars SO annoying! My pace is really good tho, so if i can just get a clean run i'm hopeful of a decent result!

wow!! was impossible for me!!! both races done and the 3 stops was the least i did ( to get "decent" times )... in the end i went for 4 stops and got better times.... that new setting for the camaro did help a lil'....

Finally got the race done! A few small mistakes but no drive through penalties at least. 2 AI cars spun together at turn 10 and blocked the whole road off! Dodging them cost me 7 secs alone

Yeah, I had a few problems with the AI McLaren spinning out at the last real corner on its fifth lap. It looked like its tires turned red at about T1 of that lap, and it pulled off nice drifts on most of the corners but just snapped around backwards entering the chicane. I managed to stay on the racing line and avoid it both times, which was lucky. raz, I'm talking about the LMP going seven laps on hards - I'm getting only five on them in the GT.

With the Bentley i'm getting like 8 laps on Hard tires. The Zonda? around 9 laps...Though i haven't had the chance to complete a GT1 time yet (Damn spinning AI cars! )

Arrived with crew at Grand Valley Speedway a day ahead of schedule. A night out with the guys celebrating the start of the GTPLMS fourth season was in order.

Drove out to the track early next morning and had the opportunity to test both Pesky's (Courage '03 and Judd '04) at the HP/Kg settings as per the above table. Track was dry and temps cool. Ran both cars the whole 27 laps. No major errors. Both had to pit four times for fuel and tires.

Excellent job, ABud, on the setups. After 27 laps, they finished less than 8 seconds apart. The difference would probably be less with more practice - I have spent for more time in the Courage car than in the Judd car.

I'm still not sure about the Audi R8 settings. The HP/Kg settings seem a bit too generous. But, tomorrow, I will have an opportunity to jump into the R8 and compare the tire wear to the Pesky's. Will file report in afternoon.

Ran the Audi R8 for 27 laps - also a 4 stopper. Tires were orange/red at each pit. I am not at all familiar with driving the R8 and spun out twice, both 360's but didn't hit anything so no forced entry. Still, probably lost about 10 secs each time. I didn't restart the test though. I was curious to see how I would finish. The Audi R8 is amazing. Sticks to the track and accelerates beautifully. Even with all my mistakes and two spin outs, I finished a full minute ahead of both Pescarolo C60 trials from yesterday.

I have to say that the R8 settings need some adjustment in order for the rest of the field to remain competitive. Perhaps adding more weight? Just my two cents.

Hmm...Well, if you change the Audi settings then you'd have to change the Bentley Speed 8 settings as well, mainly because that car is nearly as fast as the Audi and is slightly better on it's tires as well. My suggestion? -1 Less Power and add +1 weight to the R8's current specs.

I wrecked the Courage earlier today. Lost control coming through turn 3 and smached her up completely against the wall. Felt like SPAM in a can, but I'm okay now. A good friend of mine has offered to fly in his Judd car - should be here around midnight tonight and in plenty of time for tune ups and time trials.

But, please let me know if I can switch Pesky's.

Just ran the Bentley. Three pits (one I got 9 laps out of) and one penalty (hit the wall on the last turn). I'll try to re-race before the deadline.

Ran the Viper and got the same 3 pits, 1 penalty (it's that last friggin' turn on worn tires!). Got about 7-8 laps between pits. My fastest lap was ten seconds slower than the Bentley, and the overall time is about four minutes off. Hopefully I'll have time tomorrow morning to run them both again.

Gonna be too busy on Sunday to do any racing, so I put in my race in GTS earlier tonight. It was a four-stopper with 2 stints going 7 laps on a RH/RM tire combo for the Camaro.

The car arrived 1:30am this morning and we got working on her straight away. I ran the Judd car for 27 laps and finished this time within less than 3 seconds of the total time for the Courage car. Can't get the settings done right any better than that. Again, great job 👍

Maybe it's just me but, compared to the Courage, the Judd car feels slightly more stable in the twisty sections of the track and seems to accelerate slightly better. Tire wear is same for both cars.

Just sent my times in not a minute before the deadline, having just finished my second Bentley run. I was able to reduce the overall time by a minute, but my best lap was a second and a half worse. Unfortunately no re-try with the Viper.

I know some people are unsure of the pace of both the Pescarolo's in LMP. East appears to have proven that they are fast enough, however i will be honest and say that i was nowhere even close to my Audi time in the Judd at GVS.

If people would like, i am happy to run a second preseason event. You can even recommend tracks (i would nominate Midfield), or we can go straight to the season proper.

Post your thoughts on this by 11:59pm GMT tonight (monday) and i'll get the quali thread for whichever event up tommorrow morning.

Also, dont forget that if you want to change your choice of car for the season please post either in this thread or in the sign up thread by the end of today as well.

As far as the pace of the Pescarolos in LMP, I feel the Courage and Judd cars are evenly matched. I have not tested/compared all the other cars, only the Audi R8. I do agree that the Audi R8, at current settings, seems faster than the Pescarolos.

I'm not a fast driver - I try to keep all four tires on the track at all times (with rumple strips being part of the track). I was able to outrun the Pesky's when I tested the R8. But, as Kingofweasles pointed out, if you start tweaking one car all the other cars may need a second look. It can get complicated.

I'm very familiar with the challenge of properly handicapping cars. I performed an extensive 16 week testing/handicapping of the C-class cars after the first (and to date, only) season of the Historic C-Class Championship Series, which was excellently administered by Tyre King.

The problem: even after you have leveled the playing field for all cars on a particular track, once you then race those cars at those settings on a different track, you will often produce very different results. Some cars are fundamentally better on short tracks, others better on longer stretches, others better through "twisty" sections, and as we all know, tire wear is a huge factor in leveling out the field.

One solution: when I ran my C-class tests, I set up each car so that over the course of the season, involving 10 different tracks, the cars had a chance to win roughly the same number of podiums at end of season. In other words, even the Peugeot 905 would have earned at least one 1st place, one 2nd place and one 3rd place finish at end of season - and so would have all the other cars. Each one at different tracks, of course. The second season of the Historic C-class Championship never got underway, so my testing has not yet been put into practice.

I'm up for another pre-season trial run, but will defer to the popular consensus. Midfield sounds great, if we decide in favor of another run.
