Welcome to the GTPLMS

Round 3:
Bridgestone Grand Prix at Midfield Raceway

Midfield_raceway.jpg

Round 3
Track: Midfield Raceway - 2.21 miles (3.56km)
Deadline: November 9 @ 5p CST (GMT -6)

Midfield Raceway plays host to Round 3 of the GTPLMS. Rolling over hills and valleys, this curiously laied-out figure-8 style track features long straights, off-camber corners, tunnels and bridges. Drivers can expect challenges at every turn on this short, twisting rollercoaster of a track.

***Important news announcement***

Attention all racers. I've come to the decision to adjust the points system for LMS competition. By adjusting the point system, GTMSA hopes to increase competition toward the season ending Drivers & Manufacturer's Championships.

To that effect, Points will now be distributed as such. Race finishers will still receive points breakdown of 1st-10pts 2nd-8pts 3rd-6pts 4th-4pts 5th-2pts 6th-1pt. Additionally, ALL starters (those submitting times) will receive 1 pt for taking the green flag.

Additionally, 1 pt will be given to BOTH the top qualifier in each class and the driver with the fastest lap of the race.

Consequently, each driver has the POTENTIAL to score 13pts in any event. This system also gives merit to both Qualifying and Fast-laps in races, as well as making the starting grid (submitting a time). Hopefully this will pull in the Prototype drivers, and also give GT drivers more of a goal to shoot for.

These modifications will take effect for Round 3 at Midfield. Drivers with questions are welcome to PM and/or IM me. Again, all past race results and current point standings will stay the same, and new points system will be effective for Midfield.

Sunny skies, fast cars, and pretty girls (hopefully), lets go racing.

I'm looking forward to racing here. I've have been good here since GT2 so I should know this like the back of my hand.

Yep, I love this corse too. Maybe I'll do the right one this time!

I have two days off from school on Monday and Tuesday, so I'm hoping for some fast times. At least a podium. Watch out all!
:)

Just from an impartial observers point of view, this new system of yours is similar to that of the old system used by ALMS. This was back in the days when, for instance, Dindo Capello had a championship robbed from him because he didn't qualify the car and therefore Alan McNish got the bonus points. Of course, you could argue that there were many things Audi could have done to try and secure a co-championship for those two but, apparently the way Alan and Dindo look at it Dindo was robbed. Of course, unless B-Spec Bob is in the running for the championship I think this new points system will suit the series quite well. Kudos to your race director for being on the ball.

I dislike the new layout of Midfield. While it's still a good course I think the designers have made it even more technical then it already was. The entrance into the last hairpin is just rediculous. Challenging but rediculous. Most of the turns have odd banking and extremely late apexes. Only improvements over the GT3 version is the last left/right before the start finish straight has been smoothed out and touching the carousel rumble strip doesn't upset the car as much.

I like the new points bonuses. I didn't bother qualifying at Fuji because .200 isn't anything I'm going to miss. Now with 1 point on the line qualifying has meaning. I'm not too crazy about giving a point for fastest lap but I think it will be OK.

Well, for one, I'm glad to see the point for qual attempt 👍
just wish it was a couple of races ago :sly: as that was my first ever pole :sly: I also like the point to the fastest lap 👍 Even if Neil and Andy seem to own that point

Midfield is just another of the many tracks that I'm not quick around...shrug. Just took the "squirrel" out for a run and think that the times are going to be :scared: quick this week. Turn 7, the right hander just before the hairpin into the tunnel has tossed me off the track more often than not. Putting in a quick time and getting the enterance into that corner is going to be the key, for me at least.

I've only run about a dozen laps, trying to get a feel for where the "tranny" needs to be and am still dropping time. Maybe another second ? out there.

Pit ? We've all done the "wrong track thing" ...

I made the same mistake .. must have done 200 laps at the 80's track before learning we were racing in the 90's ... :grumpy: Guess i need to learn to read properly .

So my laps submitted for FUJI were all from one attempt .

Those of you who have never raced at FUJI 80's ... it's much better than the 90's track .

Enough dribble .. i'm getting into the private jet for a trip to MIDFIELD .. not a favourite track but ive done enough laps here to set fast laps straight away ... that twisty bit before the straight isnt a concern if your using RM's or better .... i lift at the previous corner ; hit the gas briefly before the tight turn and ... hitting the apex 'perfect' is a buzzz .

Hmmmmm!

Tyre-king city!:sly:

Watch those fronts on the off-camber left sweeper B4 T2 boys! It eats them for breakfast at asks for thirds!

Neil

The only thing i worry about on this track .. are the A1 cars :nervous:

Having some trouble with the BMW this week, I can barely beat my RX7 times. So far each week I feel my RX7 run is much better then my BMW run, but I win in the BMW....go figure.

Q-times are done (i think) and GT is finished. Ran 4 races with the M3, and i LOVE to drive this car. I'm OK with my time, and i am pretty sure that's about as fast as I can go. Need to work on GTS now, can't let Andy get another win.

On the series front, Please welcome two new drivers to Prototype 1
east will be driving the #13 GranTurismo 4 Audi R8 starting at Midfield
nitro_2005 will be driving the #11 Heineken Pescarolo PS2 starting at Midfield.

The season's starting to heat up, and the Prototype field is filling out as well as Grand Touring fields. Good luck all and safe driving.

c

yeah, hi guys! just wanted to get back into the swing of things, so what better place to do it than here! hopefully me and my heineken pescarolo can get some good results and put in a good effort for the championship..I was originally going for the R8, but after trying it out on R5s for for qualifying, i really didn't like the understeer i was getting in some corners, so chose the pescarolo for its grip.

Chris, I hear ya coming, and I can see ya in my mirror, ya got me scared which means I gotta work double long and hard to keep you in my mirror. This sure is fun init?

I'm having some real good runs in the RX7, the Mac...not so much yet!!!

Here's a new one for me at least. I was running the RX7 in the main race and for 3..yes 3 laps in a row my times were identical! Has this ever happened to any of you guys? I've done 2 laps identical a few times, but never ever three! I also cut 8 seconds off my total time, you got me running my arse off Shotgun.

My times are in with the Mazda. I didnt spend too much time Qualifying with it (must of only did like 5 laps), I decided to spend a bit more time trying on the race and keeping the tyres in good condition, so hopefully I will do a bit better this race than I did last.

Now I will move on to the Audi R8 which I am very much looking forward to :)

I've done 2 identical times in Time Trials before, but never 3 and never in a Race.

Ok, my Audi times are in aswell 👍 What a wild ride that was, very challenging, very fast and a hell of a lot of fun!!! Didnt hit my goal in Qualifying but am happy enough with my time, i'm happy enough with my Race time, just wish I had more time, but oh well, off to work I go :( Good luck everyone.

:) "This 'driving thing' isn't as easy as it looks". I'm fighting for grip and a proper line as I try not to lose too much time in this big turn #6 sweeper. Every time I think I've got it right, my car takes an errant step toward the outside. More steering correction, more time scrubbed off.....It doesn't seem to change. As I head past the downhill esses, I'm fighting to keep the tail in line under hard braking for the hairpin.

Next, I'm fighting for traction trying to put the power down under hard acceleration coming out of the hairpin....then under the tunnel and up the hill through the left-right esses as I climb up toward the crest. At the top of the straight, I'm listening as my black #99 Super Pro Racing Zonda LM strains for top speed. I know I've made too many mistakes on this lap. So, as my Zonda roars under the timers, I do a quick mental regroup and do it all again...."This 'driving thing' isn't as easy as it looks"!

********************************************
Greeting to you all...👍

I've PM'd the Race Director and I'm hoping he'll let us into your series. It looks like a really well thought out series. So, I'm hoping to see you guys out here at the track and I'm hoping I can keep up!:nervous:

Guess what guys, we have ANOTHER new driver to LMS competition. Please welcome
GT3Emperor driving the #?? Super Pro Racing Pagani Zonda.

That's right, another manufacturer for those all-important Championship points. Competition is getting stiffer than ever...looks like we'll all be watching our mirrors for this new car.

PS, does anyone else want to wring the neck of whoever programmed the AI? desperately trying to complete one banker race for P2 took me 4 attempts, twice i had to re-start on lap 12. ARGH!!!. Now i got to work on GTS some more.

c

I would wring the neck of the programmer Chris, but I don't think they used one for the AI's.

Welcome GT3Emporer, I know you've been a member for a long time, surprised we haven't raced together somewhere along the line.

It's also nice to have another "mature" (read over 40 yrs. old) on board. You've got me by one year old timer:)

mature ?
is that we are ?
LOL...

I'm so old I fart dust !

J.R.

ICallShotgun, I believe Gt3Emperor mentioned his number in his post, #99.

Hey, Thanks for the welcome Guys!:)

I need to provide a new number since I see #99 is taken. #99 was my number back in my karting days and it still gives me that 'warm and fuzzy' feeling inside. The only other number that I've been forced to bond with is #56 ....my age. It doesn't give me such a warm and fuzzy feeling, unless I think about the little hairs...grey and otherwise that randomly started growing out of my ears and nose in the last few years. :yuck:

That age number does put a big ugly 'chip on my shoulder'. It motivates me and others like me (old farts) to fight to my last whezzy breath trying to prove that age isn't a disability. Driving talent is like fine wine....it gets 'better' with age.:sly: So, now that you know where I'm coming from...."let me win once in a while!":) :)

#56 Super Pro Racing Zonda.....warming up for another practice session.

Well, I've done 3 practice sessions over the 15 lap race distance. I'm not real happy with my progress so far; this Mid-field is way more difficult (but better) than I remember it. I'm pulling down pit lane now to freshen up and try it one more time. As I get this beast stopped in my pit box and pull my helmet off, the Pagani Facory Race director is at my window barking at me....

"Look old man, if you don't pick it up we're going to put Horst von Saurma in the car....you're about seven seconds off the pace we projected."

'Horst' is the hot shoe they used at the 'Nurburgring' to put Zonda way up on the production car food chain there. It looks like unless I get this thing up to 'warp speed' I'm going to be doing stand up comedy with some patented lines borrowed from Rodney Dangerfield.:nervous:

I have ran the Mac for 4 races, the RX-7 for at least 7!
Was trying out different tyre stategies, finally managed to get the right one for the RX today!

8 + 7 HOT and smooth (With a capital SMOO!) laps on RS/RS!

The tyre-king is back! :D

Submitting soonly!

Neil:)

Dear King,

:sly:

I've been running the RS's, just couldn't find the right top speed setting - which has been my main problem with any arcarde race.

My only chance of getting close to you and Andy this week were if you guys were running RH's .... LOL

Will be submitting today, as the work schedule isn't condusive to putting in any more time on this one :grumpy:

J.R.

The King declares : Times sent! Be afraid! Very afraid!

M'Wah Ha Ha!

Neil:D

 to the King
Times sent and I know I'm not quick enough...sigh
Ran the RS's - 8/7 ... got 14 seconds off from my first run, there still might be a few more in there, but work does happen :ouch:

👍 GL everyone, the bugger is going to be hard to catch this week
AGAIN !

J.R.

OK Neil, as usual we're neck and neck. I'm happy with my times. Our RX7 race times are as close as you can get.

Not quite ready to submit, I need to quali in the BMW.

Hey Neil, we're gonna be real comfortable with the RX7 being that we'll be running it in 2 series every week for awhile.

Yeah! It's gonna be fantastic!

If we can be as consistant as we are here, the team points will be great to see.

Taking the night off driving to kill bad guys etc in F.E.A.R./Extraction Point.
Hmmmm!
Mindless violence, big guns and lots of blood and guts!

Neil

Times submitted. Good Luck Ya'll, see ya at Infinion.

I saw that you two grabbed the RX.
While I have to learn, yet, another car.
Oh joy
oh stil my beating heart

Neil: I've tried some of the games. Tried the one that was suppose to be from my specialty. Drove me nuts because I couldn't do what I wanted to do. In other words, do it right. Pissed me off. Having said that, I do miss being a shooter sometimes.

If you and Andy are close in times, that means the rest of us are batteling over 3rd again

You guys are going to be tough in JGTC, unless Casio gets a fast partner :D

J.R.
