As for me one lap qualify would be much better. And the reason is that it is so in real life. But anyway Chris would decide and it is just my opinion.

Guys!

This is how it is this season, a hot-lap quali for endurance races and a sprint race quali for shorter main races.
Go with it, it works.

Anyway, it's Chris's series, and he sets the races as he sees fit. I have no problem with it at all.

Yes, you have a choice.
Not about whether it should be a sprint or hot-lap quali, but whether to do it, or not. It's up to you.
Yes, the sprint race quali is more time consuming, and yes, I stated that I would favour hot-laps in the next season of JGTC, but that is to do with the paramaters set by EATS (AI on softer tyres and set to +10, making them even harder to deal with than normal.), not with the format.

I'm not having a go at anyone, nor am I being pedantic or confrontational. This is a 'free-choice' series, if you want to have a chance of winning it overall, then you have to race it every week, and do it Chris's way. If winning the series isn't that important to you, then don't do the weeks that you don't like.

Simple as that, really! Init?:)

Neil

EDIT

Times just sent to Chris!

Bring on the next Quali round!

I'll be on the tarmac for everything ; single lap , sprint laps , 20 laps .. i was just making an equiry into Shotguns method of  ... :) bring on the next QF !

It's something I really thought was inovative in JGTC, and I wanted to see how well it adapted to LMS. There isn't very many Sprint races this season, but Fuji is a quick lap, and I have faith that the rounds are short enough to give people plenty of time.

and I will (hopefully) have the results and qualification round up this evening.

Just submitted this week's time. 👎

Unfortunately, it was from a mid-week test run, as RL got in the way. I planned to get back at it this weekend, but fixing my Ford tractor put paid to that. Glad it's a long series. :)

Times submitted! But one thought goes racing across my mind...
It's all about my strategy. I stopped 5 times in GT1 and GT2 with 4 stops in PRO. I'd tried at least 4 types of strategy for all the classes and I think I used the best ones for my races (according to my driving skills, racing style and cars I'm using). Most of the racers stop 3 or 4 times, so let's see who is the fastest and the smartest here at Suzuka :)
PS: my best laps were much better than in qualify.

At least it's Fuji '90s not any of the other itterations. Nice flowing racing, very high speed.

Neil

I don't understand what a "sprint lap" is. Is it the first lap you do from a standing start? Please excuse my inexperience. GT4 is the first racing game (or any game for that matter) that I have played and I just started December '06. So, not too familiar with all the terminology yet. But I'm reading up on racing in general :)

Think that 'sprint-lap' is a slip of Del's keyboard, probably means 'sprint-race':)

A short race, say 3-7 laps, very like the first race in a BTCC meeting, which decides where they start from in the second race (but reversed, ie finish 1st,start last)

Nowt to worry about.👍

Neil

I was doing fine in my prototype race until I ran up behind some AI shortly after my last pitstop.

After R190 (I think thats it's name, the fast left sweeper toward the end of the lap) the Mercedes Sauber darted to the left of the track and shoved me onto the grass, nearly spinning me out.

I managed to keep the car pointed forward and followed the C9 out of the chicane.

Then the jerk slammed on his brakes without warning to enter the pits. I hit him and got a 10 second penalty which ruined my race.

Only real scare in my GT1 race was coming out of R190, getting the right side tires on the grass and getting competley sideways for what seemed like an eternity, only to end up pointing the right way in the chicane. I only lost a couple of seconds, though.

Times Sent. those esses weren't so difficult, but the tire wear was rough on the R8.

Results are posted. Results are correct.

Points are not. Yet.

But I have to go to bed.

Congrats to all podiums, there were some surprises in all catagories...good job everyone and it's off to Fuji.

NO KIDDING! I almost fell off my chair!

From now on, no more whiny posts about how crappy my time was. This is really weird having no idea where your run will stand against the other ones. I'll finish thinking I'm on top, and I'm not. Then this happens. Very strange. Let's just all meet somewhere and race head-to-head each week!

Congrats to those on the podiums 👍

BTW Delfino will not be looking forward to New York 👎 having never raced there in reverse mode { im sure others might agree } :indiff: ... but he will make up for it at Deep Forest and Tokyo :)

Congrat's to all the podium placer's!

Surprising results? Maybe?

Hard to reconcile Drift_kid's GT1 nearly whole minute faster than everyone else's times, time. It means nearly 2 seconds a lap faster on average, when Charger got the fastest lap?, any chance of sharing pit schedule and tyre info mate?

It would provide some insights into where the rest of us went wrong!

Agreed! Interesting to know Drift_kid's strategy 'cause this whole minute advantage scares me :scared:

As for me I used 5 stops strategy for GT1 and GT2.
[5laps(med/soft)*5]+[3laps(soft/soft)]=28laps

In PRO there were 4 stops:
[6laps(med/soft)*4]+[4laps(soft/soft)]=28laps

What about you?

In PRO - pitted three times, seven laps between pits, on RM/ RM tires.
In GT1 - pitted five times, five laps between pits, on RM/ RM tires.

In PRO, the tires were light orange when I pitted and in GT1 they were medium to dark orange as I made for pit lane.

Each time I pitted I took on a bit more fuel, but as soon as all four tires were ready I pressed the gas pedal to stop the fueling and start racing.

I never tried the RS tires. I probably should have as the extra pit stop would have been more than offset by better tire grip and faster laps. I had calculated that each pit stop, in Suzuka at least, is a net loss of aprox. 22 - 25 seconds for a tire change. Is that about right?

It could be a tremendous learning tool to be able to watch a replay of the winners' laps. I try to find archived replays from other series and found it helpful and interesting to watch a well executed line around the track. Watching a great replay makes finishing nearly last less frustrating for me because I can now clearly see where I need to improve. Btw, great spin-outs or missed turns are also fun to watch. I have a lot of those on my saved replays. :ouch: :)

In PRO I did the following:
3 stops, RM/RH for the whole race (cos the GT-One chews the rears for breakfast.)
Pits on L7,L14,L21 (7 lap stints) topped up the fuel to 56 Ltrs at second pit.

In GT1 I did this:
4 stops, RM/RM for the first 4 stints, pitting on laps 6,12,18,24. And then switched to RS/RS for the last 4 laps.
Fuel added 3rd pit to 23 Ltrs, and then again at the last pit but only up to 16 Ltrs.

Neil

I think the #30 Microsoft BMW McLaren F1 GTR should be on the podium. I averaged 1'52.xxx laps, about 2 seconds a lap slower then CHARGER and finished 1 minute behind him. That means the winner had to average 1'48.xxx laps to beat CHARGER by 1 minute.

Yet CHARGER has the fastest lap, a 1'49xxx....hmmm

Eracer, keeping the car pointed forward and on the concrete is the best way to improve your time. Take it easy around the tricky turns and push through the easy ones

EDIT: i used rm/rm in GT1 & Pro , looks like that was my downfall

That's a good strategy! But how did you stay 6 laps on RM/RM on Viper? My RM/RM held just 5 laps and the last one was on deep orange tyres...
Are you racing with DFP? Or maybe it's you driving style that helps you to save tyres...

Thanks Earth:tup: I do try to keep the best line possible for me, at my skill-level and, of course, for the particular car I'm driving. I don't mean to sound negative. It just seems that, besides experience, compared to the "average" racer the top-notch drivers have a far better understanding of racing principles and techniques. I am reading up on racing and hope to incorporate the lessons learned into our series. I really enjoy racing in the GTPLMS and I think it will just keep getting better for me. 👍 👍

ERacer

Edit: I was using 320 gearing in PRO. Just curious what all the other Pesca Courage C60's were using.

Yes I'm using a DFP, but mainly it's my driving style. I am very Smooth, I brake gently without overstressing the tyres, and make sure to hit the right apexes.

That's why they call me the 'Tyre King':sly:
On some tracks I can keep tyres good for 2 laps or more, over what some can do, and still be as fast.

Neil

. . . but as soon as all four tires were ready I pressed the gas pedal to stop the fueling and start racing.

:ouch: 💡 I thought there HAD to be a way to partial-fill, but didn't know how, until today.

Thanks ERacer! 👍

Here's a good tip for the long races....

Always agree to re-fueling, press 'start' to pause as the fuel-tank display comes up, and write down the no of litres left in the tank. Press 'x' twice, to continue, and to stop the fill-up!
Do that for the first couple of pits and you will be able to work out how much fuel you are using per stint/lap at that track.
This way you can then work out how much fuel you will need in the tank for your last stint, so that you will be running on fumes at the line, without running out.

Least amount of weight for the last few laps+good tyre managemant=fastest lap contender!

Neil

Very welcome chollo9! And great tip from Neil as well 👍 We need more info sharing like this to raise the level of racing for everyone. :)

X2, thanks Neil. I'm starting to collect so much data that when my wife walks in the room, I just close the laptop so I don't have to hear any more comments about being obsessive.

OT, I just bought a DFP off Ebay last night and I can't wait. No more POS MadCatz wheel! :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck:

do you guys think the lap times will get better with a racing wheel??? if so which, is the best one???? for ps2 and ps3... i have the MC2, used twice in 3 years and now is not working..... :grumpy: :grumpy:
