GTMSA Presents
GTPLMS Season 6 Interest/discussion
[/CENTER]

Welcome to the series discussion thread. As you may have already noticed, the GTPLMS has not yet began in 2011. With GT5 the next platform for the series, I would like to gather input and ideas to shape up season 6 when it comes.

Schedule

With GT5, we have alittle more Le Mans oriented courses. So far, here's what I have in mind

1.Daytona International Speedway (Road Course)
2.Circuito de Spa-Francorchamps*
3.Autodromo de Monza*
4.Indianapolis Motor Speedway (Road Course)
5.Circuit De La Sarthe (2009 Circuit)*
6.Nurburgring (Grand Prix Circuit)
7.Grand Valley Speedway
8.Fuji Speedway (F1 Circuit)
9.Laguna Seca

*-Variable Weather/Day & Night tracks

Suggestions for the schedule and the assortment are welcome, but please be reasonable.

Car classes

While we get a few new cars (Namely the Oreca R8 and the Pescarolo C60 Hybrid), here's one point that I'm very interested in input for: How to introduce the Diesels. As we've seen in real life, the Diesel cars have a huge advantage to their petrol counterparts. It is for this reason that I want to discuss their placement. Should they have a class of their own, or should they be lumped together with the LMPS?

Multiclass racing on-track

As seen with Super GT, It has so far been good, but thats only been with entries not enough to fill only two classes. GTPLMS is however a multi-class series with up to four so this is another important topic. In the event of a full grid, Should each class have its own seperate race or should they be groups of two?

Hybrids also have huge advantages, too, namely in fuel mileage. I'll participate in this if I have a job/place to live by then. I still need to finish up testing for the CTSCC Season 2 and GT4.

Speaking of, Racecar, if you want to, you can take over at least the testing of the GT4 cars if you want. The GT4 site has a lot of good info and should provide enough to get all the cars even within a week or two.

This sounds great, I adore Le Mans racing and would love to campaign a prototype. I feel that diesels should not be in a separate class. It would be quite easy to equalize the petrol and diesel cars given the tools that GT5 provides.

Part of the reason that there is not much parody between the diesels and petrol cars in real life is that the factory diesel teams are given an advantage to keep them comin back and spending the huge amount of money that they do. With money, reliability, and the skills of a full factory team taken out of the equation there is no reason the two can not be equalized.

I say put the diesels with the rest of the cars. Theres a big difference in real life, but virtually no difference in the game.

What kind of length are you guys thinking for these races? Maybe we could get together and do some testing to see what kind of PP cap we would need.

Diesels with petrols and handicap accordingly, if necessary. Nice to see this taking shape.

I'd like to go for this, but I really don't know if I'll be competitive enough.

The diesels should definitely be in the same class as the petrols but given different, more strict restrictions to even the field out. Just don't completely reduce them down or leave them running free.

I don't know which series to do. GT1 would be good since it would give me an opportunity to finally use my Zonda LM and if it's allowed the GT by Citroen Race Car but LMP racing will be a better challenge and probably more fun.

To my surprise, the Petrol cars are actually faster then the diesels. I did laps at the nurburgring and they were doing lap times 3 seconds faster then the Diesels. Looks like it its the Petrol cars that actually need restricting.

I do believe that the diesels get a little better fuel mileage though, but I haven't tested it to be 100% sure.

Which layout of the 'Ring were you using, RACECAR?

I do weekly 500pp racing and I have noticed that high revving engines with small torque numbers seem to have an advantage over cars with a lot of torque. So, it would make sense that the diesels are at most on par with the petrol cars. Then again, I suppose it depends on the track as well.

Schedule

Laguna Seca
Monza
Nurburgring
SSR5
Grand Valley
Le Mans
Infineon Raceway*
Valencia*

How many rounds are you thinking of having for Season 6? As for tracks you can consider adding in the event some of them don't pan out, consider the following...
  • Fuji Speedway
  • Suzuka Circuit
  • Daytona International Speedway Road Course
  • Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course
  • Deep Forest Raceway
  • Tokyo R246
  • Cape Ring

Maybe we can have a few testing sessions on a few of the track with some of the cars in the LMP category to see how they preform as well as do a couple of hour-plus long test races to see how they compare. Also, any chance some of the pre-2000 prototypes and Group C cars might be considered for a separate LMP class that can contest the series as well?

In the event of a full grid, Should each class have its own seperate race or should they be groups of two?
Good Question. I'm thinking all the Prototypes race in 1 lobby while the GT classes race in another.

As for when to hold these races, what are you pondering would be a good time and how often? Maybe every other Sunday at about 1800 GMT?

It would be cool to have the prototypes and GT cars in the same race but the game doesn't allow setting up the regulations for two different classes so it would be impossible to make sure everyone is following the rules.

No Group C cars. Thats for a seperate championship.

Given the maximum of 16 people in a race, I think thats a good idea. With only two classes per room, it'll allow for bigger grids per class.

Haven't really gotten around to those yet.

Has anyone come up with any regulations or a list of cars we can use? I'd like to use my Pescarolo C60 or my Oreca Viper if possible. That is of the PS network ever comes back online, lol.

Alright folks, this week is the first true test of these new regulations and car classes. Race thread is up here.

Specs for the cars are being finalized and will be put up later on today.

UPDATES

First Winter GTPLMS Test Set
New Test Scheduled for November 5th. Currently, the time is set for 2:00 PM GMT but could be subject to change to ensure everyone can make it.

Number Of Classes shortened
The classes for the series have been shortened. There will now be three classes instead of the originally planned four. This will ensure that at least one room will accommendate two classes.

GT Specs Finalised
The performance specs for the TVR Tuscan Speed 6 RM have been finished and set, which now leaves the GT field finalised.

Series Calender Adjustments
The current schedule for the series has been adjusted. Spa-Francorchamps now replaces SSR5, a track that has proven problematic. Le mans has now been moved up after Nurburgring while Grand Valley has be moved to be held after Spa-Francorchamps. Fuji Speedway has also been added to the schedule. This now makes Seven confirmed rounds of the championship with two more yet to be decided.

I am out of the competition for now.

No Corvette in GT?...

If you can add in the R32 GTR TC I'd definitely be in :dopey:

UPDATE

GT Class Specs Updated
GT Class have been revised and updated to meet the current specifications of most GT Series. Corvette ZR1 RM has now been added to the list.

If you can add in the R32 GTR TC I'd definitely be in :dopey:

If I had a Classic JGTC series going, I would most certainly include it but I can't here. Sorry man.

UPDATE

Just concluded testing with the GT cars at Spa and these were the lap times:

Nissan 350Z/Fairlady Z Concept LM Race Car: 2'19.528

Ford GT LM Race Car Spec II: 2'19.550

Mazda RX-8 Concept LM Race Car: 2'19.877

Corvette ZR1 RM: 2'20.188

BMW M3 GTR: 2'21.052

Tuscan Speed 6 RM: 2'23.127

With these using some slightly modified specs (Namely the Ford and Mazda), the GT Specs have once again been updated.

I would join but I'm cutting down my gaming time significantly.
