Next time I'm at the bar, I'll tell the bartender that I want a slow, comfortable screw against the wall, and we'll see what happens :p.

Screwdriver... Vodka and OJ

You can call it a Screw... put more vodka in it than OJ and you have a Slow Screw (because you drink it slow).

Add in some Southern Comfort, and you have a Slow, Comfortable Screw

A pinch of Harvey Wallbanger liquor, and you have a Slow, Comfortable Screw Against the Wall. :D

Or you could just go for a rum and coke.

I beg to differ. The "Slow" part comes from the addition of 1/2 a measure of Gin, preferrably Sloe gin, to the Screwdriver mix.

Comfortable does indeed come from the Southern Comfort.

The "pinch of Harvey Wallbanger liquor" is actually the 1/2 measure of Galliano that was added to a Screwdriver to make it a Harvey Wallbanger, after the famous surfer "Harvey" who drowned his sorrows after a poor performance with a Screwdriver with a splash of Galliano added. He proceeded to get wonderfully drunk, and collided with several walls on his way out of the bar. Hence "Harvey Wallbanger".

For an interesting drink other than bourbon & coke, you could try dark rum with a little fresh lime juice and ginger ale. 👍 (which is a Moscow Mule if you replace the rum with vodka.)

You shouldn't mix anything other than blended Scotch with ice, or any other mixer.
If you're talking Single Malt Scotch a little spring water is all you should really add, it takes the edge off the high alcohol content and releases the tasty aromatic components.
Adding ice to Single Malt is too cold, and prevents the release of the aromatics, visit any pub in the Scottish Highlands, and you'll always find a small water jug on the bar for precisly this reason. ;)

That ad is so poorly acted, I have never understood what they were trying to say with it, with those weird inuendic stares.

Last night I pregamed with Jesus Sweat (Amaretto and Orange Juice), then did the rounds of whiskey drinks at the bar; Rye and Ginger, Whiskey Sour, Whiskey and coke, etc etc. I got sufficiently shmammed.
 
Nick, you ruined my Screw story! Actually, I read about it in in this book, although not related to the drink.

My wife likes that drink (Amaretto and OJ), but she calls it Splash... dunno why. I think she once ordered it at a beach bar in Miami and that's what they called it.

I haven't tried it yet, but I may give it a shot. I bought a six pack of Budweiser Select this evening (one of my favorite "normal" beers), so I've got to finish that off with the other Heineken thats left.

Any recommendations on a good, moderately affordable beer?

I've been stuck on the Heineken for the past few weeks, been considering trying Beck's, but I've never had it before. I'm open to try most things, but a general smoothness is required. I don't want any of that "I'll kill you for kissin' my sister" Pabst Blue Ribbon crap...

I'd go and look for anything by the New Belgium Brewery from Fort Collins, CO.
Fat Tire, Blue Paddle, 1554 are all good. Their 2 Below winter ale for this year is really nice too.

Another one to look out for is anything from the Big Sky Brewery in Missoula, MT.
Their Moose Drool is excellent, as is Powder Hound.

They're domestic microbreweries, so they'll be a little more pricey than the normal big domestics, but less than imports. 👍

Becks is good, as is St. Pauli Girl, which is more or less the same, but usually cheaper!

Back when I was in middle school, I used to hang out in the security office in the mornings. I remember someone put a case of St. Pauli Girl in their fridge in a brown bag. When I went back the next day, one of the gym teachers had written "ST. PAULI GIRL IS FOR FAGS" on the bag. :lol:

A beer which features a beautiful buxom blond bierkeller server on the label is not generally the sort of image that I imagine would appeal to your average fag! ;) :lol:
 
I know, but it was so hilarious. The guy who wrote it was like in his 70s or something.
 
Well, it depends. St Pauli does make a non-alcoholic beer and if some people only have an American beer taste then that might be all they know it as.


Also, some redneckish Bud Light drinking types consider import drinkers to be snooty, thus give them derogatory unmanly descriptions. I find this extremely funny coming from guys that refuse to drink anything other than watered down, low alcohol American beer.
 
ever tried B52?



2 cl Kahlua
2 cl Bailey's
2 cl Cointreau
90° alcohol (not in the pic)

put these in a triangle cup in this exact order, very slowly. the different density makes the three liquors stay unmixed. on the top, fill with a surface of pure alcohol, then put a long enough straw in it.
fire the alcohol and drink one-shot, including residual alcohol, before the fire melts the straw.
For those who don't fear hangover

Edit: I suggest not to try this at home. a professional bartender should do it for you (if you are aged enough)... just to avoid any home-accident.

Champagne is (in a sense) sparkling wine made in the French region of Champagne... everything else is just sparkling wine. The Spanish version is called Cava.

Drinking Stater Brothers Berry Fruit Juice. It tastes just like Fruit Loops cereal! Weird! It has grape, apple, raspberry and cranberry juice.

I'm not impressed, at all. Heineken is much better, by comparison... And they're made by the same company, right?

I'll keep kicking around the store and see what I can find. I nearly bought Bass instead, I'm kinda wishing I would have...
 
Back's is good for an import, when you have little or no imports around. Once you get all kinds of beers, Beck's is no good anymore.
 
Maybe I was expecting too much, I don't know, but I just wasn't all that impressed. They had Smithwicks sitting next to it, my friend Brandon speaks volumes of it, but I wasn't thinking enough to give it a shot...
