Well, in a perfect wheel swap you'd want the combined weight of the new wheels and tires to be less than what was on it. Also, the bigger the wheel, the further out the rotating mass is, decreasing performance in acceleration and braking (if your brakes aren't up to snuff).

A good wheel weight would be around 1lb per inch in height. For example, if you had 15" rims, 15lbs would be a good benchmark. For 15" rims, anything over 16lbs is heavy.

Agreed. But does it really matter when the car has as much power as the Trans Am? I don't believe he's going to take it autocrossing. I don't think performance is tops on his list. He just wants rims that look cool. You don't have to blow the bank to find rims that look good, but getting a set that was built light and strong and with performance in mind, and all that coming from a big-name company, will take a good dose of money.

I personally would be shopping for performance. That's what I'm interested in. I'd advise Silencer to shop with performance--or safety, depending on how you look at it--in mind, but I'm not going to say that his choices are crap. I like the look of these rims, and that's what he's set out to accomplish.

Oh ok. Thanks I'll remember that. I didn't know that was how the weights were supposed to work out for wheels. 👍

Yea, I was going for the look more than absolute performance. Maybe in a few years when I can afford to get into auto crossing or some type of racing I'll go back or come back here to ask which performance wheels and tires I should get. But for now since street racing is illeagal and stupid, and I can't risk screwing my car up I'm just goin for some good looks.

I have a confession to make....

There are very few times when I think a black rim looks bad on any car

I've been seeking professional help, good choice silencer

Trans Am... power, not really, unless it's been modified. It's so heavy in stock trim, that pretty much soaks up all power to speak of.

I've got 8 sets of rims now, and I didn't break the bank yet. You got to know how to shop, before you can start saying that they cost a lot.

Well out of curiosity how much do you make in a year? I don't make a crap load. Only about 4k a year.

Where do you go looking for wheels that you can get so many for so cheap?

The car started with 305 hp brand new, but it's 8 years old and has 95,000 miles on it. I probably need to get a tune up on it. I just put a ram air kit on it and am about to buy an air box lid from MTI that should add a few more hps, so I'm figuring it's still up near 290-300 hp. I could be wrong, just a guess.
