TeamXbox.comWorld Exclusive: GTR
THQs MotoGP franchise has long been considered one of the superior video game racers on the market ever since it debuted on the Xbox in 2002. Never a company to rest on its laurels, THQ continues its aggressive approach in next-gen game development. Today, THQ has announced a partnership with Swedish development studio SimBin Development Team AB to bring their award-winning GTR franchise to the Xbox 360.
This multi-title deal kicks off with the release of GTR on the Xbox 360 in Q1 2007, specifically focusing on the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) GT Championship - a European-based racing series that includes world class automakers such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Corvette, Porsche and Aston Martin.
GT cars are the crème de la crème of road racing vehicles, with mere skins of their production-based brethren. Were talking turbocharged or big displacement tube-frame beasts; carbon-on-carbon brakes, sequential trannies, and pretty much every other type of techno-gadgetry you can think of.
GT cars arent for the faint of heart or lack of skill. It takes precision and full attention to pilot one of these asphalt terrors. But perhaps its even tougher for a developer to properly pull off a racing game that is so genre-specific; every detail must be perfect, not only for the rabid fans of Grand Touring racing, but also to satisfy the stringent specifications of the FIA. Luckily, SimBin - heralded for its work on GT Legends and GTR for the PC - already has a vast amount of experience in making GT racers look and feel right. There is no doubt in our mind that SimBin and THQ will do GTR on the Xbox 360 right, which makes us even more excited for its worldwide launch.
Today, TeamXbox.com is proud to give you the first glimpse at GTR, including never-before-seen video footage and in-game screenshots.
My thoughts:
Won't do as well as the PC. There's just simply not enough FF wheels out for the X360, and not to mention, there hasn't been a sim like this on the Consoles since F355 Challenge.
IMO, there will be too many people who see this, think cool, and find out it has no plot but to just race, and see that the physics are nothing like their used to.
Why? Personally, I think most of the current X360 owners (as in Teens and Kids) are just not ready for a sim yet. Their brains are too used to Arcade physics, and honestly, I think the PC Sim Community is just far more better at these games than the X360 owners.
