Okay this has bugged me for long enough. ;)

Everywhere on the internet we see the godzilla's labelled as either GTR or GT-R.
The correct version is GT-R.

Reason being, it matches up with all the other model names. GTS-R, GTS-25, GTS-25t, GTS-t, GTS-4, GT-T, 25-GT so it's only natural that it should be GT-R right? Okay, the first three letters of the other ones have been 'together', but this is like the ultimate model so only the first two are together with the hyphen separating the third letter.

And besides that it looks more aggressive with the hyphen in between. Soooo many other cars are using the other way (McLaren F1 GTR, BMW M3 GTR etcetera).

Actually the correct spelling is GTR not GT-R. Also it is GTS25-t, and GTS25. The car's would be badged or labled as such if they were different. The hyphen was inserted as a designated identifier for turbo or race versions in the case of the R31 GTS-R. Actually on the R33 GTS25t there is no hyphen but it has come to be acceptable within the Skyline followers even in Japan. You would be able to note this on auction sheets in Japan as they are even listed as such. Sort of makes me sick to see it desecrated due to lack of knowledge or laziness.

Well in that case i stick to my last statement.

:)

Well then my reason is wrong. I still usually type GT-R. It as mustang-man said look more aggressive, which is always a good thing.

Although GTR is the correct, I am too used to typing it with the hyphen.

Anyways, Razor props for correcting him, you are definately one of the most knowledgeble about GT-R/GTR on this site. 👍

Btw I wasn't having a go at anyone here :)

Speaking of how other manufacturers have used the "GTR" in their car names, even Nissan sort of copied it in the production name of another one of their cars. The Pulsar GTiR. Gee they only added "i" inbetween it hahahaha. It is a pocket rocket though and was nick named, at least in New Zealand "Baby GTR" due to its performance.

I thought the GTS-4 was called something along the lines of baby GT-R too.

You have to admit though Razor, that the hyphen does make the name seem more aggressive - even if it is wrong. ;)

And what are you doing up at 5am? You're as bad as my father!

I was getting ready for work. It's Sat morning and woke up at 6am! Grrrr I need a life aye.

Like the GTiR the GTS4 can also be called it, though being a Skyline it does carry more marrit than the pulsar in blood lines. However it is hard to argue against the overall performance of that little pulsar with its 4wd and SR20DET motor, and not just an SR20DET but in fact a motorsports version of it.

Razor, you are incorrect!

Want proof?

How does an original R32 Skyline GT-R sales brochure sound?

...there it is: GT-R.

Nissan don't designate their turbo or race versions by using a hyphen! What about the Pulsar GTiR? What about the R31 2.0GT Twin cam turbo? At best the hyphen is used to emphasize a "top-of-the range" model... but even then the two examples above don't hold to that.

But anyhow, it's "GT-R"... officially.

Driftster
There's proof it's neither..it's GT
And then underneath there is a red "R"...in all of your faces
Tell me Einstein, how are you supposed to type out "GT" with a red "R" underneath the "GT"? You're being a bit smart there, the original post asked was it "GTR" or "GT-R" and I gave proof. The fact is *on paper* it's GT-R. On the *back of the car* it's "GT" with a red "R" underneath. :dopey:

First off...I commend you for being able to detmine seriousness from sarcasm.....You get an A+ for that one....
Second....The pics were self explanitory proof......no need to reiterate about a pic 2 posts prior..

Ouch owned!

Cheers Rezz, I stand corrected. I've never seen it printed like that, even in auctions, vids, etc. Heck even the R32 GTR workshop manual doesn't have the hyphen. Weird they put it in the sales handbook.

I guess that only way to find out the real truth is to hear it from the designers of the car themselves. :/
