Is someone comparing how it feels to drive a GT500 in GT5 with how it's like in real life???

I'd love to read more about it.

"Extreme specs".. The lap record at Suzuka is 1:49.xxx in real life if I recall (ARTA NSX).. How can cars that run 55-56's (Listed WSGTC 3 specs) at best be extreme?

Lol... Dennis. You and I were thinking the same things at the same time.

As for the comparisons.. I think we will always try and make them. What we need is to "hire" a real GT500 driver to run the GT5 simulation for a few hours to give us a proper opinion. Until then.. it will always just be a bunch of us making our own assumptions. Including me :sly:

I guess this is what always makes it so tough for the organizers to come up with "fair" regulations for the cars.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUfHCen2s8Q

That is impossible (Hope I did not speak too soon.. ) even with racing Softs, so how can the specs be that extreme?

No pun intended, just discussion. 👍

What I mean by extreme is in terms of grip. We struggle to keep the car on track more than them in real life. Maybe because we use racing hards rather than softs that they use in real life. Im not talking bout speed, im talkin bout grip.

Yes, it's flat out. Just type 'Super GT Onboard Suzuka' on youtube, you'll get many results.

I'll comment about why the specs were brought down in a few - cookin up some steak for dinner at the moment :)

Just a few things I'd like to point out.

In GT5 we only have 2D at our disposal, right.. This meens that any judgement that includes the distance is affected.
You've most likely been in the situations during a formationlap where the car ahead of you all of a sudden is sitting on your bumper when he was "a mile" away just a split second earlier.
This judgement handicap does affect us when racing in front of a screen.
With a 3D judgement, 130R could most likely be taken flat out. Add an (almost) empty fule tank to that.

All in all, it's very difficult to compare real life with GT5 no matter how good and accurate the game seem.
All I want to say is that do not blindly try to make everything exactly like in real life. Because we'll never get there no matter how hard we try.

@ Reese - the goal as to why the specs were lowered is to make the field as close to each other as possible. Yes, certain cars had advantages at certain tracks - but they seemed a bit magnified last season, specially with the NSX. We hope to make it as competitive throughout the 16 car grid, specially considering that we have something bigger at stake this time around. We have the preseason to play around with these spec - let's reserve final judgement until then.

I hear you Eric. But I do think, during the testing phase, is the time to speak up. Final judgement, is as it says, final. So at that point it is what it is. No more worries about regulations.. All about just getting out as much from your car and driving as possible.

I hope no one thinks I am trying to de-rail the process. I just have strong feelings towards liking more of the on edge feel.

I am here either way. Like I said before, Dom has a great feel for these cars. With him testing each of the cars we will probably get pretty close to parity. I just hope we don't lose too much excitement in the process.

We will see how Laguna goes, and move on from there. 👍

Based on the videos it looks like we should be running racing softs tbph.

The issue with power comes down to what can be achieved through specs. This is the lowest rate, where everything is stock or close to. There's an intermediate spec that's in between the new specs and the WSGTC season 2 specs.
That could be explored also. It would basically be limiting all the cars from the season 2 specs .

@ Red - 👍

Have a room up for practice if anyone's interested.

Red is feeling what I felt about PURE specs. Its tough, I know. I just prefer the slower, more competitive type of racing. Im sure we can something out that will please most of the drivers here.

Maybe we could give a try on this? Run on Softs? Im actually not a fan because Softs on GT5 have super grip. But Im not a fan of having very little grip too. In between is nice. :D

Racing Softs should be banned for all times lol :D

But we can gander at mediums if y'all want.

Anyway - awesome vid NEP (still watching it - long vid) :) Did he win races? What other series' did he compete in?

Races? He won championships! Those Toyota Carina were great!! Skip to around 32:00 to see Macau. My father dominated Macau completely. :D

He also raced in a Renault Clio spec series, Formula Ford.

What was the peak of his career?

Peak of his career? Probably his 2nd victory at Macau in 97 which gave him the title as well. I have videos of the race at Macau, I'll PM it to you after I get a chance to upload them to youtube. Later today probably. :D

But we can gander at mediums if y'all want.

This would be a great idea Masi. I think the cars would be even closer together, especially the NSX would benefit from some more extra grip.

Talking about real life comparison. In our GT500 event we race on softs.

I checked real life Suzuka Super Lap qualifying from 2008. GT500 premium cars in GT5 are mostly from this year.

Motul GTR got the pole with 1.51.163. In our event lap record from Suzuka is very close to that with 1.50.987. (empty tank)
suzuka10.png

So I guess they must be using softs tyres, at least in Q. If I'm not mistaking, they are mostly using hards in race.

I personally am not a fan hard tyres for GT500 cars, I like to race this cars at its full potentional. But, some people find them boring and I understand that, a good compromise would be medium tyres, IMO of course.

Thes are the correct GT300 specs. Fixes for Masi: Impreza premium (P) is '08 not '06, weight of standard Garaiya is 1125, weight of Celica is 1050. All cars are at stock weight. Try them out thoroughly and give feedback. 👍👍

MR-S----: 315 BHP - 1125 kg - 531 PP - 100% - stock
Celica---: 314 BHP - 1050 kg - 538 PP - 97.6% - stock
Garaiya S: 329 BHP - 1125 kg - 535 PP - 98.3% - stock
Garaiya P: 334 BHP - 1175 kg - 530 PP - 95.0% - stock
RX7 P---: 322 BHP - 1100 kg - 528 PP - 95.5% - stock
RX7 S---: 327 BHP - 1100 kg - 530 PP - 97.5% - stock
IS350---: 352 BHP - 1150 kg - 548 PP - 94.7% - stage 3 engine tuning
ImprezaP: 344 BHP - 1100 kg - 548 PP - 97.2% - stage 2 turbo
ImprezaS: 332 BHP - 1100 kg - 546 PP - 94.3% - stage 1 turbo

Cant see the MR-S having a hope in hell now and seeing the Subaru 08 only getting a 8bhp reduction I rekon it will be even faster than the rest than it was in S2... but this is just speculation ill test tomorrow...

Last season, the MR-S, along with the Celica, only needed a small power boost to be able to stick with the benchmark cars, the premium RX7 and Garaiya at stock power. Hence the reason why they had stage 1 turbos and very flat power bands. The MR-S is 315 bhp stock, last season it was 320 bhp but delivering that amount of power more of the time. That's a 5 bhp decrease with a narrower power band. The Impreza has a 8 bhp decrease, but also with a narrower power band. Please note the premium Impreza now uses a stage 2 turbo, not 3 like last season. If quite a few people still find it too fast then we'll power limit it even more.

There's no excuses this time. There's a whole month for potentially 100+ drivers to give feedback on these specs.
